Hey guys.

My favorite part of painting 40K is always the Dreadnaughts and Terminators and the like. I frequently imagine myself as a mech by sucking my hands into my sleeves and stomping around making rocket noises.

With the announcement about Mechwarrior Online I was wondering if Battletech still has a strong following. When I take a break from painting Black Templars I was considering another 40K army as a break but I have also been eyeing this.

What do you guys think? Is there still enough presence for this game in your area to get a pickup game going, or is it mostly dead?

Battletech is still a thing!

Catalyst games has been doing an amazing job with keeping the game up to date. The newest boxed set is an incredible deal, 26 miniatures, rules and heavy board-game style maps. If you can find it, though.

So, wait, those guys run an online version of the board game so you can learn the rules without buying the game first? Sort of like I have been wishing 40K would finally do? Hmm. That's interesting.

well actually both those sites are fan made, but they are both from what i remember and have found they are the board game as close as possible, and mechwarrior 4 actually became a free game a while back when mechwarrior 5 was announced and mektek aquired the files for downloading, so i believe neither are actually connected to the makers of the board game or computer games

but yes fowler you can download those and try it out for a while before you ever have to buy the game (i know mektek is online capable, and im sure the other one is megamek also has a SP version with scenarios and such). Mektek was alot simpler when i muddeled around with it btw

I just got the battle-tech Introductory box set and am enjoying cleaning the models off getting them ready for undercoating :)

I just got this box set as well. I am terrible at painting minis, though, so I may commission a co-worker to do that (he only charges like $1-2 per mini, depending on the mini). Right now I'm just looking forward to playing some battletech again!

I've started work on one of the minis in the boxed set and have found it a bit difficult because of how misshapen the fine detail is up close. Probably won't look good next to my pewter mechs sadly.

The local group is starting up a Battletech campaign using A Time of War. Should be interesting.
