Not sure if I should put my name in for this because I already won a Penny Arcade earlier this week, so I feel guilty :o
This has definitely been a game I've been meaning to buy for months.
Amusing anecdotes about gaming?
Um...
Hmm...Early Tuesday morning, I'm suffering in bed due to having some gutrot due to sushi had for dinner...cat jumps on bed, claws me in the face and just plain meows. To save the gf from waking up, I get up to...er...dispose of the cat and I end up staying up to play some Fallout 3 while my stomach settles...
So...decided to venture into DC and do the GnR radio quest, get distracted by the Underworld and then fall into the Lincoln quest...needless to say, I started at 3am and I sort of finished when my gf got up at 8am wondering where the heck I was...when I explained I was "roaming the wasteland", she gave me a look that I think we all have encountered at least once in our lives as gamers :D

I have amusing CoH Anecdotes. FoodNipple has a habit facing his pill boxes away from where the enemy will aproach from. He was touched by his uncle, now he has OCD about guarding his rear.
Lastly, How come none of you bitches take me up on offers to learn the martial art of Company of Heroers?

Ghostbear loves this one :D
It was on a Team Fortress 2 custom map, called Science. There were only a half dozen players or fewer at the time, all EvAvers. I had recently discovered the Spy could disguise himself as allied teammates and wanted to demonstrate that the nature of the disguise scarcely mattered in most situations. Then things got absurd.
Ghostbear, in typical Pyro form, was guarding a point against me. I was disguised as a Heavy on my own team, the worst imaginable disguise, but I was cloaked so I was able to get right in Ghostbear's face. All Ghostbear saw was an enormous minigun-toting enemy Russian materialize inches from his eyes and immediately facestab him. The purifying flames of desperation weren't enough to avoid the instant kill. It was the most incompetent successful assassination ever.
I was laughing so hard I just stood there until I burned to death.

I'd love to own this game but sadly I don't know of an amusing anecdote concerning gaming.

That was an official CoG Network give away, this is just me giving away freebies from work, so don't feel bad :)

My son and I used to play deathmatch D00M! over a null-modem cable. He must have been all of 6 or 7 at the time. I made a special map just for us to blast each other. I always gave him the advantage of using the Turbo 386 with the math co-processor. I used the 286 with extra lag!
We started up a game once and I was running to the place where the shotgun was; I came around a corner and walked right into a green ball of plasma. I respawned, got my bearing and started heading for the chaingun. I picked it up, turned around and was engulfed in a ball of plasma. I respawned, turned around... WooooSH!
This went on for about 10 minutes until we had to stop because my son was laughing so hard his asthma kicked in.
Ah... yeah! I let him win! :o
Good times!

WTF? Gaming related anecdote. Don't anecdotes stem from funny situations during a social activity? I, for one, started gaming to avoid social interactions with humans.
I don't know if this is funny, sure as fuck is creepy. My friend, who's into the local CS scene, told me this story. So these guys were pulling an all-nighter in a cafe. So all of the guys went to sleep(which is quite common here), except one, who went to blow this other dude sleeping next to him. True Story!

Best one I can think of from recent times is the Lekon Chainsaw Massacre. It was two teams of four in Gears 1, all EvAv'ers at the time, on the map in the deserted subway station with the Troika. I start late, and come back jusssst in time to see my last team mate die. Now its 1 vs 4. Lucky me. I see someone.. I run up to chainsaw them, kill them thinking "Hey, I got one, that's good. Another guy runs up.. misses the shotgun blast. He gets sawed. Number 3 and four were together, but I was just barely able to roadie up behind and saw 3... then before four could get an aim on me.. he dies to the saw too. Round ends and as soon as it goes to where I can hear the dead people talk.. I go deaf from the amount of screaming in disbelif. I myself was surprised, but everyone was screaming "HOW THE HELL! HOLY SHIT!" etc.
I've yet to replicate the feat, but I am trying!

Best evening of CoH we ever had. FoodNipple, oh how your bunker placement is so awesome.
Once I get my new system built and up and running, I can see myself playing more CoH. God, what an awesome RTS. Everyone should be in here wanting to win that copy!

I am in here wanting to win a copy!
I don't see where it says to post an anecdote, but I have a pretty good one.
Playing TF2, on Dustbowl. I was defending, as a sniper.
This annoying Spy had kept on backstabbing me, and I was becoming incredibly angry! (He was dominating me) He would just single me out, and try to kill me every time. At any rate, I was sniping, concentrating on a specific corner. As I'm scoped in, I take a shot at an opposing sniper, and lo and behold, I actually kill the very spy that was my nemesis! No joke! I suppose he was just rounding the corner as I shot. It was fantastic!
Best day ever.

So I was big into UO back in the day, and one of the funnier stories I remember is a friend of mine getting as "involved" with a girl in the game and then finding out she was in her 30s when we were in our teens. He proceeded to give her shit about it meanwhile she went off into a cunt rage and deleted his 7xGM tank mage (basically an uber maxed out char for non UO players). Back then there was no complaining to customer service since things weren't put together as well as Blizzard has it. So our only retaliation was to have a nearly server wide gank fest on every single char she had. This lasted over a month and ended up with us all very very red (another UO term for murderer). Not the funniest story but it's gaming related and I do love any UO story >P Anyone else old UO players ?
and CoH looks awesome

Mine was actually very recently.
I picked up WoW again after about a year. I made my way to Tanaris and found the zone to be pretty empty of Alliance players (my character is Horde). I was fighting some mobs for a quest when this weasel of a rogue (3 levels below me I might add) appeared behind me and stabbed me in the back. I had grown complacent with the lack of Alliance players so I didn't heal up between fights and was low on health and mana (and was in the middle of a fight). Within a few frantic seconds I was dead.
About a half hour later I found the guy in Gadgetzan right outside the gate. I had ridden right past him on my horse and when I noticed it was him, I dismounted and sent my pet after him (and unleashed my spells on him). Well, having just seen someone try and do that inside the town I don't know what I was thinking (blind rage I guess) because the guards overwhelmed me and I was dead again!
When I got back to my corpse he was still there. I gave him a "rude gesture" and he did something like "laughed and pissed on your leg", or something like that.
Stabbe, I'm still coming for you!!

Yay! Thanks!
I'll have to get a copy for my son too, so he can kick my ass! :p
I've always like Relic's games! This will be a nice addition to the library!

I just recently fixed my home network issue. I also keep putting off replacing this dying chipset fan(have to take everything apart and remove the mobo to do it). Because it keeps crashing my games, I stay off of Steam and X-fire when possible. I have only been playing the balance beta of CoH, not the retail version. Also, you smell like spoiled cheese.

Royal Mail? I didn't know you were in the UK!
Thanks again! :D
Good grief! have you seen the size of the patches for that? Wow! It's like 2GB for 1.40 and 2.101 patches! I'll download them tonight after I'm done playing Left4Dead. ;)
Thanks again for thinking of the CoG community!

Lots of updates, and it sounds like you have vanilla CoH, not the expansion Opposing Fronts. And sadly, because of Relic online, there isn't really a defacto way to get patches besides loading up the game.
Though, have you played it in DirectX 10? GORGEOUS.
Enjoy the game, and then buy Opposing Fronts.

There's maps in them thar patches. Also, 2.1 was a major UI overhaul. The trail of dots on screen and on the mini-map help to compensate for any pathing quirks.
We should set up something to all play together. I haven't played in a while because of FC2, FO3, and L4D has gotten in the way of my time for CoH.

I would, but the frame rate hit is too high to be decently playable. I can run it pretty much maxed out normally, but enabling DX10 makes the frame rate plummet. Oh, to have an even better graphics card.

What card do you have? Though, I have a Radeon HD4870 with 1 GB of RAM, and it runs at a constant 60+ fps. But, the game is also processor intensive, because I used to have to play with all the settings turned down, and the units would still move somewhat slowly. Now they're all lightning fast.

8800 GTS 512. Good card, but probably being let down by my CPU. Phenom 9950, a far cry from a decent Core 2.

I'd be down for this as well. Hopefully I'll actually be at my computer when I get the messages to play this time.
CoH is just a great game all around, though it will ruin most other RTSs for you once you play it.
