The collector's edition giveth, and the collector's edition taketh away.

Lionhead Studios announced today that the Collectors Edition of Fable 2 will have some...modifications to it's contents. And by modifications I mean most of the cool stuff is now missing.

Gone are the Fate Cards, the Hobbe figurine and the premium collector's box. Consequently Microsoft has lowered the price $10 to $70, which still gets you the game, a making of DVD and a pack of downloadable content including a dungeon, a 'legendary' cutlass and the energy sword and Spartan armor from Halo. The reason for the truncation: the dreaded "supply chain issues" which translated roughly from the business-ese means that whomever was supposed to supply these items couldn't meet the demand.

Fable 2 is scheduled for release on October 21st.

EDIT: Sandman reminded me that coming this Monday, you'll be able to download the Fable 2 soundtrack at sumethingdigital (http://www.sumthingdigital.com/).

You forgot about the free free soundtrack!!!

Also I prefer this CE over the last one....too much junk in it before.

Collector's Editions have to do something pretty sweet for me to get one.

I think the last one I got was Bioshock, because that figurine was amazingly cool.

It's kind of sad when I can't remember if I had the LE or the standard edition preordered. *shrug*

Sonofabitch! I was trying to make a nicely typed up piece in the Console Games forum, and you beat me to it! At least I tried, you can delete it.

Also, I'll still keep my preorder for the CE. $10 for the in-game content is fine by me.

The only CE I have ever bought was for Warhammer Online. There has to be some pretty cool stuff in a box to sucker me into dropping that much into a game. I am getting the regular version of Fable, but the figure did look kinda cool.

I'm a smidge disappointed about this... oh well...

I'm a fan of CEs. And actually, I now prefer this one more. I didn't care for the extra figurine or cards. I'm glad they're sticking to the core stuff that I'd expect (sans and art book) and dropping the soundtrack on us instead. Now I'll be picking this up.

How much do you think that downloadable dungeon will cost off Live if one does not have the CE edition. If its 800points, getting the CE is pretty much an even swap price wise while you get that extra disc. Also, does anyone know if the dungeon is also exclusive to the CE regardless?

There will be a Fable 2 special Xplay this Tuesday.
I almost bought this last night for the figure. But the figure seemed more toward Altier than a Big Dady.

Double Update (http://kotaku.com/5057836/binned-fable-ii-ce-contents-back-as-free-downloads)!: As it turns out they are releasing the cards as a pdf file. So for anyone who truly loves Fable have fun wasting ink.

Well that destroyed my night. Oh well I guess this means $10 more towards Fallout 3.

This will not make Ms. Clause happy. She was looking forward to the figurine...as was I. This really sucks. I'll keep the order since you get some other stuff and not messing with Ms. Claus over anything Fable :). For me, I would of just bought the regular edition.

I can't remember the last time I bought a CE or LE for any game. I have picked up a few GOTY editions, aside from that I can't justify the price tag to have extras I'll never use. The Fallout 3 CE looks to be the coolest this year with the clock I don't see myself shelling out that kind of money.

Why do the CE/LE editions cost so much more to get extras that aren't that expensive to make? I can see EA putting out ultra editions like Dead Space(http://tinyurl.com/4chl7s) to cover their 'harry potter is delayed til summer and we have to make up losses and also because we couldn't aquire 2K' losses. For now I can live without making of dvds and desktoys.

The step down for the CE is no big deal to me. I had the regular version preordered on Amazon anyway.

I was kinda looking forward to the little hobbe figure. Oh well, more content is always nice.

Paying extra for in-game content is lame. I hate nickle-and-dime crap like that.
