The week ends and we all celebrate. Or we should be. Ever have a weekend you really want to skip? After a week of getting over my "Spigot Flu", the weekend should be when I get to rejoice with gaming goodness. Alas...not this weekend. One oral presentation, two exams and the never ending papers to write will most likely keep me even from hoping for much gaming. So less gaming this weekend and more "type type", "cry cry" I am not online playing GOW 2. Those who are gaming this weekend, don't forget about JayVe/Kamalot's "online" gaming party for those who can't make the trip down to his home for the party. He's got a nice lineup of games to be played during the A.M. hours. All info here (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=1090) if you are interested. Still hoping to make an appearance somehow. And if I do get some gaming in, here's my plans:

Dead Space-The only benefit of being ill this week was getting some game time. I've made it to Chapter 10, and I really want to finish this game. Despite a few instances of WTF? were you thinking developers in certain parts of the game, the game still retains all the fun I've had since the beginning. And this game is still plenty creepy/tense/scary for me. My goal is to finish this.

Castlevania:OOE-Bought this with all the usual excitement of a new Castlevania game then started reading in the COOE thread this game is harder than previous Castlevania's on DS. So I'm hesitant to start since I don't really feel like being overly frustrated with a handheld game right now. Anyone play this? I might try...just not overly wanting desire at the moment.
So what will it be for everyone else? More GOW2, FO3 and the other Fall sequels that have bombarded our gaming systems? Hopefully many will be playing the new Banjo-Kazooie game...What are you playing?

I've been playing entirely too much Fallout 3 lately and it wouldn't suprise me if that continues into the weekend. That damned game has me by the short hairs. Other that, I've recently dusted off my 360 and rented a copy of Smackdown vs Raw 09. I decided to cash in a free month of gold Live, so I'll be taking on all comers with the Miz if anyone's got the balls to challenge me.

Fallout 3 - more wasteland beasts must fall to my handy-dandy deathclaw glove o' pain.
Little Big Planet...does anyone know if/when/how we'll get the Old Snake sackboy?
Might crack open either Gears or Resistance...but more than likely I'll spend my time in the wasteland.

Fallout 3 (game is crack)
Gears of War 2 (Only on act 2, damn collectibles have me exploring for hidden pieces of paper that blend in FAR too well instead of fighting Locust.
Banjo Kazooie (XBLA). Nuts and Bolts is in the mail.
I'm going to try to pick up Conan for 360 tonight at Best Buy, if my store has it in the bargain bin for $10. Or some other similarly priced game.
Also canceling Gamefly this weekend. Have way too much that I own already. No time for rented titles until spring perhaps.

I'm off next week, so my weekend is 9 days long. :D Then of course, the week after that is a 3 day week with Thanksgiving coming up, then another 5 days off. So I'm off for 14 of the next 17 days. :D
During that time I'm hoping to get in a lot of Valkyria Chronicles and FFXI, with a little bit of R2 coop and LBP level creation on the side. Should be good times. :)
EDIT: And Star Ocean on the PSP while LFG in FFXI, I'd like to do a lot of meriting this weekend.

It's supposed to rain in the DC area tomorrow pretty good. I'd play a little WoW regardless, but that makes it easier to sit on my butt for half the day. :) Probably the 2nd half of the day though. There's too much to do in the mornings as a married man now. :)

You start playing that game and you start now, Santa!
Seriously though, it is tough but it is a damn fine game. I am really enjoying it a lot. It isn't nearly as tough as some reviewers are making it out to be, and the only really tough parts are boss battles. Those have always been hard with Castlevania games, so I think you will be fine.
I will be playing my current mainstays; Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 and Order of Ecclesia. I will also do some time trails with Mirror's Edge, I wrapped up the story mode last night. I might replay it on hard, but we will see about that.

Sigh. Purple, I say it every week, but FRONT PAGE THIS STUFF!
Anyway, good to hear you're over the Spigot Flu. I'm still dealing with the lingering aftereffects but I was able to make it into work for a solid shift yesterday, so go me.
I'll be working this weekend too, which should be a BLAST after being bedridden for a week. I'll probably take my DS and tinker away with Order of Ecclesia if things are calm and safe... but the way things have been, that seems highly unlikely, at least for this weekend.
I will probably tinker away at Fable 2 and Valkyria Chronicles for the most part this weekend. I want to finish Fable 2 before I start to sink more time into Fallout 3 again. I might also see about wrapping up Penny Arcade Episode 2, but I have the sinking suspicion that I didn't find one batch of Fruit... Lovers in one of the stages and that bugs me to no end.
Purple, you should be able to get through the last couple of chapters in 2-2 1/2 hours. Enjoy! And Order Of Ecclesia is a bit harder than some of the other Castlevania DS games but it's a good challenge. I haven't found it impossible yet, but I have died more on the bosses than I usually do. Usually it's a matter of running around and levelling up for a bit. It looks gorgeous though.

You think so?
I haven't found that to be the case at all. For me it has been pure timing and figuring out attack and dodge patterns.

I haven't found that to be the case at all. For me it has been pure timing and figuring out attack and dodge patterns.I had one or two fights where I felt that I just had to go out and fight a few other things until I hit the next level and got the stat boost. Yes, they did come down to timing and patterns but having that little bit of extra health helped.
I'm still in the early stages.

Going to an NBA game tonight to see the Grizzlies play. My neighbor somehow got seats on the floor. Other than that, I'll try to find some time to play Gears. Kills me that I don't have time to put hours and hours into gaming anymore.

Oh, ok. Well I can understand that.
Much like other Castlevania titles I have found that once you know the patterns it isn't really that hard to beat a boss without taking any damage, you just have to pay very close attention.
I am pretty far now, but early on there is this Boss in a lighthouse that is pretty damn tough. You may have already heard about it as it is by far the most talked about part in the game on the tubes. Once you get the patterns it gets easier, but that boss is still like five minutes long at least, so that was tough.

I've actually been avoiding most discussion of the game. I just got it last week because I had some extra cash and had been wanting to get it since shortly after its release when I heard some people on a couple of podcasts talking about the game.
I shudder to think of having to fight a 5 minute boss fight though. My poor fingers!

Working this weekend, so will mostly be playing WAR on my laptop or Star Ocean on the psp (depending on how 'officious' a certain person wants to be).
Still need to finish Fable 2 (only just made it to Bloodstone), and I still need some GoW2 play time.
Finally picked up my elite today (not unboxed it yet, so no idea of the manufacture date). So I'll be ringing MS at some point for the transfer cable then letting the machine sit till NXE 'ships' on Wednesday, then everything gets installed.

More of The Witcher. I looked at my journal the other day and it looks like I've got around 37 quests active! I don't know how many of those carry on to different acts, but it seems a bit overwhelming. I think I've crippled a couple of quests, too. I found the hut out in the swamp and then tried to escort Gramps. Doesn't seem to give me a good alternative. Oh well; You work with what you're given.
Got into Mass Effect a little bit the other day. Might put some time into that if The Witcher gets a bit tedious.
Loaded up Syndicate yesterday with DOSBox! Sweet! Forgot how a lot of the controls work, but I should be able to dig up my old manual if I decide that I need it. Fired up the Persuadatron and had every person on one level following my squad over to the extraction point!
Got a Best Buy Rewards coupon in the mail the other day. Stopped in planning on picking up Dead Space: No such luck! Looked around for Fallout 3: Sold Out! I'm planning on asking for Fallout 3 for Christmas. Maybe I'll be done with The Witcher by then.
LEts see for consules i need to find time to play:

Gears of war 2(waiting for a freind for coop)

Well it looks like there will be more Fallout 3 this weekend. No surprise there, this game is amazing. If, for some strange reason, I get bored of Fallout 3 I have the Left 4 Dead demo, TF2, Assassin's Creed, and Gears of War 1 for the PC.
Speaking of Gears of War 1 for PC, anyone interested in doing some online co-op? I'm really late to the game but I hear the co-op is awesome. If you are interested, hit me up via Steam or PM me.

I picked up Tales yesterday, but because of other responsibilities (parent-teacher conferences :p), I didn't get the opportunity to play until roughly 10pm last night. Glad to hear it, we handheld brothers need to watch out for each other, and playing while your compatriots watch TV is perfectly exceptible. If it wasn't for playing games while others watch the tube I would never hang out with some of my friends.
The bosses though, they are tough, but they are certainly do-able. Like I said to Spig earlier, once you get the timing and patterns down it is entirely possible to beat them without taking any damage at all.

Pretty simple weekend for me:
Fallout 3 [PC] - like everyone else, this game has me hooked. It's been a while since I've had a game that can get me to forget how fast the time is passing. Just last Tuesday, I went into my game room at about 10am and didn't get up until about 2pm...my gf had a good laugh about that :o
King's Bounty [PC] - If I actually decide to do some homework, I like to have this running in the background for those nice "alt-tab" mind-breaks.
NHL 09 [360] - What can I say, I love this game. I really like just laying on the couch, playing BaP while listening to podcasts. A nice relaxing way to play the game.
Gears 2 [360] - Hopefully going to get some more multiplayer in this weekend. May even decide to go back and finish Gears 1 if I finish 2 this weekend.
PA: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness (sp?) [PS3] - Thanks to the COG giveaway, I installed episode one last night on the PS3 and I was instantly hooked. I knew I would like it from what I had played of the demo, but I didn't realize that I would get hooked and stay up late last night playing it like I did :)
Thanks again to this site for the game :D
Edit:
I can't forget about The World Ends With You, which I'll be cracking open tomorrow :)

My list of games to play this weekend makes me a little ill, fortunately the wave of new titles has almost crested.
In the PS3 pile we have Resistance 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Mirror's Edge, COD5, Dead Space, Farcry 2, and Little Big Planet.
On the 360 we have Gears 2, Fallout 3 and I may want to get back to Lost Odyssey at some point as well.

TWEWY is incredibly dense, but my god, is it ever worth it. Easily in my top 5 games of this year and one of my favourite JRPGs of all time. We need Square to take more risks like this instead of shoehorning Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy into every genre imaginable. It was almost like we had the Square of 1998-2000 back.

I got the Orange Box as a Christmas present last year. I was really interested in Portal, which is why I asked for it, but thought that HL2 would be worth it, too. I played through Portal pretty thoroughly. I never got to HL2 because there was this other game of some sort, Team Fortress 2 or something. The multiplayer only aspect was a turn off and I only tried it because of the gang here, but once I tried it, it became the game I played almost exclusively.
So, long story short, I, too, haven't played HL2. I'm sure I will, someday.
Unfortunately, with regard to what I will be playing this weekend, I am still doing fairly well at maintaining a winning pace for NaNoWriMo, so I suspect that there will be little to none other gaming done.
Although, I might get some TF2 in tonight, and some Wii-Fit during the day tomorrow and Sunday.

So that big long post I made didn't even post? I knew I had a computer issue for a second there. Goddamn it.
Anyway, I said, in many more words/paragraphs, that I saw tons of cheap games (all consoles and portables) at my local Best Buy tonight, 50% off rack, so I picked up Crash of the Titans and Tomb Raider Anniversary for $10 each tonight--I had to ask the service desk if this was for real. Played the first level of Crash and loved it. Will need to play more of this this weekend. But so far, I'm very happy. I recommend it (for $10 clams, definitely) to platformer fans.
My girlfriend was irritated by my searching through the shelves repeatedly (no bargain bin, just a large wall of games hidden near check-out) and I had to piss, so we left before I could decide if I wanted more or not. Will need to head back there soon. Virtua Fighter 5 was in my hands but I put it back. For $10, I need to go back there....without the woman.

Yeah, just finish it. You can't be far from the end.
I know you didn't enjoy the combat (or the lack of adventuring), but I really liked it. Would have liked more raider-exploration, but still enjoyed it as a Gears-in-the-Jungle type game.

I totally understand. Half-Life 2 hit the PC right around the time that my PC gaming was on a major downturn because my computer couldn't run anything being released. I finally picked up the Orange Box last year on 360, but I'd also like to get the whole thing on PC soon - so far I've gotten PC versions of HL2 and Episode 1. I've played through about a quarter of HL2, and I need to get back to it soon. That game is great.

Well, I just finished up the story for Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I found 111 of the 120 in-game puzzles. Now I need to find the rest and do the 15 bonus puzzles too so I can put it to bed and start Picross. I know once I start Picross, all other games will become neglected.
I'll probably play some Rock Band 2 too and maybe horde mode of Gears2 when friends are online. We already beat level 50 on casual. I think we are up to level 28 on normal. We mostly play the Day One map.

Going to an NBA game tonight to see the Grizzlies play. My neighbor somehow got seats on the floor. Other than that, I'll try to find some time to play Gears. Kills me that I don't have time to put hours and hours into gaming anymore.
This game looks like it'll be a good pick-me-up for the Blazers, after tonight's loss. Awesome. Also, Lesnar vs. Couture tomorrow. I haven't been this excited for a fight since... ever. Rest of the card looks good too. Good weekend for sports.
As far as actual gaming, I'll probably work on one of the many PC rpgs I've got in progress, since I'm done with the L4D demo and the game doesn't hit till next week. Also some DotA, as ever.

So far I've gotten time in playing Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead demo, and Warhammer Online. I just hit level 20 with my Magus and went out and bought my mount. The damage that the Magus is able to throw out there is quite amazing!
I plan on downloading an emulator for the N64 sometime this weekend and starting Majora's Mask. I plan on finishing it, too. That is one game that I never was able to even begin, just because I didn't want to tarnish how I saw OoT. I hope I'm in for a great time.

I hope to invest some more time in Fallout 3. We also have Little Big Planet, Mirror's Edge and Penny Arcade 2 that I would like to check out but once I start a game it's best that I focus on one. I forget things/get my wires crossed easily about controls and functions so I don't need to switch up games to add to the confusion.

First, was Layton not the most fun you've had on the DS all year?
Second, don't play Picross DS all at once. When you include the free downloadable puzzles, of which there are about 500, there's so much content in there it'll drive you nuts. Spread it out.

yeah, Layton was pretty good. The story came crashing down to a quick revelation all of the sudden at the end, I really didn't need any hint coins until the final story mode puzzle (except for two to three puzzles which I thought were poorly worded or too vague). Some of the bonus puzzles are rediculous though. The only one I have left now is #135 (the final bonus one) and I don't see myself going back to it. I just don't have the patience.
I just put Picross in my DS. After doing 16 or so free ones online a few months ago, I was already dreaming about the game. i fear how 500 puzzles is going to dominate my brain.

Okay, went to Best Buy again today and hit up their bargain rack. Got, after 50% off, for 360:
Stuntman Ignition $10
FEAR Files $10
Virtua Fighter 5 $10
Need for Speed Carbon $10
Def Jam Icon $10
NBA Street Homecourt $7.50
and last night I got Tomb Raider Anniversary and Crash of the Titans (liking it a lot!) for $10 each too. I'd say that's a pretty good weekend haul!
Had to have the lady agree to override NBA and Carbon because they didn't have dots on them that stated 50% off, but she shrugged and said whatever, she didn't care. Apparently Crash didn't fall under that category either but the guy last night overrode it as I told today's cashier, so YMMV I guess.

Surgery? Not the...*gasp*...*snip*, *snip* surgery is it??
No! My woman is 6 weeks pregnant with my first child, I don't think I'd be cutting those cords too soon. In a couple years maybe, after we have 2 children under our belt.
The surgery if for a pilonidal cyst, it's a recurrence, had one removed in 2000 while in college. It's a literal pain in the ass, the recovery process anyway. I'll have to sit on an inflatable donut if I want to game.
You can google it, but basically it's a large mass that grows along the top of the buttocks. Can be fairly deep. They remove it and can't sew you up. So you have a gaping wound in your ass for months and have to PACK sterile gauze in the wound every day to catch the drainage, let it heal from the inside out until the hole fills itself in.
Yeah, it's pretty gross. And since I sit on my ass everyday at work, I'm out of commission for a few weeks. Should be more, but I can't afford to miss much more work than that. I only have about 55 hours of unpaid leave in my bank, so I had to sign up and get approved for FEMLA, the Federal Employee Medical Leave Act, which protects your job while you're out with a medical emergency. Basically it means I'm not going to be making any money while sitting on my ass (or laying on my side) for a couple weeks.
We'll make ends meet just fine, dipping into my savings and my girlfriend works too, but I'm sure to meet my deductible, which is about $500 clams, plus whatever else the insurance company makes me pay. Fun. I work for the same hospital where my surgery is to be performed, where I do medical billing, so I know the procedure.
Is that enough information for ya?? :) The bright side is I'll be able to game a lot, if I'm not too sick from the meds or atrocious pain.

I know how you feel about Drakes. I loved the adventuring parts...the GOW type gunning...not so much. In fact, I sent it back (I rented) the first time since I didn't care for all the ducking and shooting. Took another crack and I enjoyed it more the second time around. It's best played in small increments. Yes, the ducking and shooting does get really annoying. But the game was so fun to look at...and I was into the cliched plot...so it kept me going. I actually liked the Jet Ski part...although I remember dying a few times...but that felt more "tomb raider" type dying. But if you are with the second jet ski part I believe you are near the end. Of course...the end isn't short...depending on how you do ducking and shooting. You may want to finish LBP first...I think I remember where you are going soon...keep playing LBP for now. You may want to be in a patient mood to finish Drakes...

I hear ya. Drakes Fortune is an amazing game to look at, and the presentation is top-notch. Voice acting, expressions, music and sound all comes together like magic for the game. That said, I didn't care for the gunplay portion much... and they force a lot of it on you.
I especially liked the second half of the game where the environmental puzzles start to get really good. Didn't care for the 'personal sport watercraft' levels, or the ending 'guess the correct action or die instantly' mechanic. In fact, the whole final trial-and-error battle was so poorly conceived that it felt like it came from another game altogether, completely bereft of the charm and quality present in the rest of the title.

You give a better description of why the game worked, excellent points indeed. The gunplay I put up with cause it made sense there would be so much "shooting"...unlike most Tomb Raider games...and i'm a big fanboy of TR. At least the game was forgiving enough in the shooting dept. so someone with poor shooting skills was able to finish the game.

I thought the gunplay at the end was a bit much. I felt if I wasn't going to get headshots I was done. It's interesting what has different gamers sometimes work through a game's "quirkiness". Most of the time with me, it's just to see more of a game's "plot" unfold.

It's like everyone in the game had skin and cargo shirts made of kevlar except on their heads. I'll also admit that i had to put the game down for some time because I was so frustrated with the gunplay that it just pissed me off. I came back to it a good month or two later and actually restarted (this ws just after the trophy patch came out) and once I knew what I was doing, it was much more enjoyable. But yeah.
It's like in Mirror's Edge. I hope to god that they listen to their guts and just leave guns out of the sequel. There are enough games out there that have guns galore. Give us Canadians who never see guns something we can relate to!
