I already own it but it would be nice to have a new copy. Tempting.

These reprints tend to kill the resale market if that's what you were thinking. Happened to Nocturne, Disgaea and Shin Megami Tensei. As a collector though, it's a prize.

No that's not what I'm thinking....I'm wondering if Persona 2 is one of those games I got with a label on the disc or something.

Ah. Definitely worth getting an original then. At least for me. I'm obsessive when it comes to that kind of stuff.

I have a copy already. ;)

Because the man has good taste. I got mine when it was first released.

I'm curious if anyone picked it up. I didn't get the email until several hours after it had been sent out, and by then it was already gone. I wonder how limited it really was.

I missed this the first time around, but when I got around to realizing how good the persona games were I ...acquired a copy. :D Hey, if the company that made it isn't willing to sell it to me, I'm not about to pay $70 to some idiot for a used copy.

But then Atlus had to go and do this! Now I have no choice but to buy it. Damn you Megaten!! My wallet already hates me for this fall!

Wow, that sold out really quickly. I knew it was a limited release, but didn't realize how limited! Even though I was complaining, I'm glad I grabbed it this morning rather than waiting for tonight.

I didn't get my email about it until tonight. :(

Previously I tried to buy a game listed in one of their emails, but it wasn't on sale yet. I thought that this time it had most likely sold out, but I was hopeful that perhaps I was just early again. At least this thread saved me from refreshing the Amazon page constantly for the rest of the night.

I'd be more interested if it was Persona 1.

Eh, Persona 2's a better game. You'd be better off pursuing both the Persona 2's than worrying about Persona 1.

I've played Persona 1. I used to own it, in fact. It's one of less than a handful of JRPGs I respect.

I don't like where they've gone with the series, I think they've been progressively stripping out everything that made the series unique in terms of gameplay, ever since.

To each his own. I personally felt that Persona 1, while enjoyable, was still pretty clunky. It's also fairly well known for its translation issues and cut content. Persona 2, in my opinion, kept all the good from Persona 1 and got rid of the bad, refining the game into a much better experience.

It's Persona 3 where they departed so much from the first three games, and I can understand someone not liking it as much. But I'm surprised that you didn't like Persona 2 at least as much as the first one.

In a way, I think it's the old school "clunkiness" that's part of the appeal for me. It feels like a game from a different time, it honestly wouldn't feel out of place on the PC in the late 80s, early 90s.

Translation issues and cut content are an utter and complete non-issue to me. I don't speak Japanese, I don't have access to the Japanese game, if it weren't for the Internet, it's likely not a one of us would even have had the slightest clue anything was amiss. And more often than not, when you actually get the real facts of it, it's a lot of niggling crap that only bothers obsessive weeaboos.

The only exception to that for me was Ace Combat 3, which was almost a completely different game from the original because they totally and completely excised all hint of the story because they were too cheap to bother translating it.

You're right. I didn't really think too much about the translation issues when I was playing it. It didn't bother me, because I didn't know there were issues.

But, like I said, I think the style of the game appeals to you more than me. The dungeon crawling felt very slow, and the battle system was just a bit awkward. Honestly, I think I just got spoiled playing Persona 2.

I'm a PC gamer at heart, always have been, even before the days when I really had access to a gaming PC and only had consoles to play on, I tended to gravitate towards ports of PC games, like Ultima 6 and Star Control and Wing Commander. My favorite consoles are all ones with strong PC-esque qualities to them, like the DC, N64, and Xbox 1.

Sigh.

But he's right, they only make so many physical copies of their games in the first place don't they? Digital distribution of Atlus games would be amazing.

I know, I was just kidding. Even though I'm a bit of a collector, I would much rather everyone who wanted to have a chance to play these games get that chance. As it is, I'm at least grateful that these days Atlus games don't seem to be nearly as disgustingly rare as they used to be.

Hell, I just saw there's a sale at amazon (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/?f=527) for a number of recent Atlus games going on right now. Persona 3: FES is readily available, as are Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 since their reprints. There are still some missing games among those recent ones, most notably Digital Devil Saga 2, but it's way better than it used to be.
