I was given the opportunity to check out the Modern Warfare 3 line of headsets by Turtle Beach at PAX. I was shown all 4 and I have to say that while I don't find myself getting excited about the MW3 branding, the headsets themselves are really nice.
I was first shown the Delta (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/call-of-duty-headsets/mw3-ear-force-delta.aspx), the high king of the new headsets. It comes with with several equalizer presets, voice presets, 50 mm speakers and the mic is removable. It is completely wireless and works for the PC, 360 and PS3. If you use it on the 360 even the dongle that connects it to your controller is bluetooth. It is 5.1 or 7.1 depending on what the game supports. The mic had a neat feature, being bluetooth you can connect it to your phone at the same time. Never shall those important phone calls go unnoticed in the midst of an intense virtual firefight. You'll also have voice prompts for things like low volume, low battery etc. I find this to be way more useful that trying to remember what the beeps mean. This headset will retail for $299.95
The Bravo (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/call-of-duty-headsets/mw3-ear-force-bravo.aspx) was up next and it is pretty much just like the delta, but missing a few of the fancier features like downloadable individual presets and the voice of Hank Keirsy handling the voice features. The hardware appeared to be mostly the same and this was the headset that piqued my interest the most. It had all of the goodies of the Delta without all the expensive extras. It is not 5.1, but I don't think this will be an issue with many folks. This one will cost $179.95. Recommended.
The Charlie (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/call-of-duty-headsets/mw3-ear-force-charlie.aspx) is their PC focused headset, sound quality is the equal of all the other headsets, though like the Delta this one is also surround sound, but only goes up to 5.1. It does not have any of the fancy voice presets and is not wireless, but I doubt this will deter most PC gamers. Out of all the headsets, this is the one I would most likely pick up. It will retail for $129.95.
Last up is the Foxtrot (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/call-of-duty-headsets/mw3-ear-force-foxtrot.aspx), this one is compatible with the PC, 360 and PS3. Like the other headsets if features chat boost, automatically making the voices of your gaming buddies a bit louder so you can hear them over all the gunfire. The speakers on this headset are 40mm unlike the 50mm of the other headsets, but the Foxtrot still sounded very good. This headset will be sold for $99.95.
The entire line was slick and had an admirable build quality. Hold them in my hands they didn't feel cheap and they appeared to be able to take a beating. Having cloth ear cups is always a plus to me. I prefer the comfort level of cloth over the sound insulation of leather. Look for the headsets around th same time Modern Warfare 3 releases.
