I am a giant nerd. How big a nerd am I? More than the combat, more than the exploration, I'm looking forward to Skyrim for the character creation. A game like that I may start over 3-4 times in the first week until I feel like my character is just right. This look at the pre-set faces for each of the nine races in Skyrim is right up my alley. Each race gets 20 pre-sets, 10 male and 10 female. Each race also gets bonuses and hinderances, so your choice may not be totally cosmetic.

Skyrim will be released on November 11 for the PC, 360 and PS3.

Maybe I'm weird, but the character creation part is always my least favorite. Whether it's WoW or Dragon Age, just give me a character and let me start playing darn it! I will usually spend some time to give the character long, manly hair and a big bushy beard, and usually an eye color that pops out beneath all that hair. But I don't care about the cheeks or the eyebrows or the chin or anything like that. Unless he looks girly by default.

Ok, maybe I do care a little. But just a little.

When did Redguard start getting tribal markings? O_O

Also all the women are still fugly. I guess that's so you are reminded that this is a Edler Scrolls game even without Gamebryo.

So, the new theme is death warmed up I see.

I like gaunt, corpse looking the people (my kraut blood) but jesus christ.

Yeah, I'm with Savok. WTH is with the emaciated death-warmed-over look?

And why is it the Khajit always look so damn comical? Is it so hard to get them to look right?

Dear Bethesda, here's a hint - look at the Dr. Who eps in New New New New (etc) New York.

A lot of the people are still ugly, but it would be odd if they were all attractive.

I can't wait for this to come out. :)

Blech. They may make beautiful, detailed worlds, but their character design just sucks. No sense of style. They need to take some tips from Bioware when it comes to making realistic characters that don't look half-dead. Dragon Age II in particular.

I think they look awesome. I don't want every PC to be the epitome of manly/womanly earthly delight but these faces look very lush and detailed. I love the new orcs - Finally they don't look like some kind of Shrek reject!

Yes, for shame Bethesda didn't craft their rugged Skyrim faces with more moisturizer! Where is the eyeliner and blush? What, no lipstick on that Khajiit?!? Why does that Orc have green teeth? Get him some Crest White Strips, the savage!

You guys are weird. These faces are head and shoulders above Oblivion and Bethesda's usual fare. I'll have no trouble making an attractive male or female character - not that I want to, since I'll be playing a roleplaying game about the deadly Dragon Born thief Prik Hairless. You guys can have your George Clooney Conan.

These are also just the pre-set faces. There are a zillion adjustments you can make yourself.

I agree these are a bit too 'Please sir, can I have s'more?' in a lot of respects, but I do like that they are rougher around the edges.

We are going to be playing characters that shout at dragons to kill them. Shouting. At Dragons. I like the rougher look.

Besides, when I want a pretty character, I'll download the inevitable nudity mod with DD breasts.

LAME... they all look like variations on the same goddamn cat! Look in the real world... cats look way more different from one another than their example!

Not saying I want pretty characters, hell I like the brutality. I always try to make my characters look like they've gone through hell when possible. It's just the range goes from dead to starving. I would of hoped at least one of them ate something.

Sammiches are scarce in Skyrim.

Maybe you didn't make it past the first several slides? The 6th (race=?) and 9th (human?) slides show several men and women who don't look undead, starving, or ugly.

Some of the later faces look fine. I'm loving the level of detail though, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Oblivion.

I'll likely make a more younger and attractive (some battle scars though!) character. I do hope the NPC's don't all follow the majority of the design here. With such an engine I want a huge variety, from pretty youthful nobles to gaunt, starving beggers.

Agreed. But I can handle that. What is bothering me abit is they just can't do faces well at all in any way. Some look...passable but none equal the magnificiane of the world itself which seems like their is this gulf between their character artists and world artists. But I will play it of course. And mod in Monkey men:)

Sadly the animal races are so far behind even Oblivion mods:( Thats sad. Not detail just general well look and design.

I'm more looking at the hideously blocky hair. It's like 2005 or some shit.

I would care more about faces if it weren't actually super difficult to get the camera to show your face in most Bethesda games.

Yeah but it's an indicator of what everyone else will be like.
