Seriously, that was the best idea I had. Seeing the Mariners game with DangerChan, her boyfriend Joey (DC: where is he? he should be here!) and mightbe was great. And dinner/happy hour at a BBQ place while we were in Seattle was bizarre, but really good.

Didn't do too much sightseeing, but that might change next year, depending on the baseball schedule.

Orange, eh...that's not all that far.../me goes to stalk iHap
The flight was roughly two and a half hours from LAX, and cost about $99 each way on Virgin America. If I fly, I'll be using Alatheia's offer of a ride from the airport.

I really want to go, but I really want to go every year. :(

Do what I did, made the decision to go in January, right before pre-registration. That way, I was pretty much locked in to go, regardless of what was going on.
Or you could follow Psykoboy2's example. Buy the pass, buy a plane ticket there, reserve a hotel, wait a few months, buy the return ticket. That helps you spread out the cost, as the hotel rooms were paid at checkout.

Or, third option, you get kidnapped and people take you to PAX. It wouldn't be your fault, and you'd get returned in a timely manner. (There are at least 3 people that are on this list of being kidnapped if they don't confirm they'll be going by July, people can easily be added to that list)

While I don't disagree with Scott's method of madness, you know... you could always just start saving now. Yeah, maybe saving some eleven months in advance might not seem cool; but it's doable. You just have to be disciplined about it.

I've taken trips overseas twice in the past few years and each time it was due to me saving up way in advance. You guys can do it, you just have to find a method that works for you and stick with it.

FYI, if you were at PAX 2008, you're already on the list

I mean, she can be a toll booth attendant for the Golden Gate Bridge, and also make sure people don't jump! There would also be plenty of downtime so she could play games on her DS or PSP (DC: you've got both, right?)

Haha, I'd be too afraid to work at a toll booth, though! It's kind of scary, though I hear they make pretty decent money. (And, yes, both!)

Reviving thread to pimp my blog post (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/blog.php?b=108). Those were just my personal highlights, there was so much more awesome that week.

My parents are considering coming up with me that week to sight see. That might make any tentative plans moot, as I'd (obviously) be traveling and rooming with them (though I probably wouldn't get back to the room until late, just like this year).
I really want to go to a Mariners game again, it was fun just hanging out with DangerChan, Joey and mightbe, even though that took a big chunk out of the day.
More people at Shorty's is a must, though Kielaran doesn't have to pay for the full round of carbombs this time.

We must keep this thread alive until presale tickets go live! Then the subforum can be created!

You know you're gonna buy the tickets anyways. Since you're in Europe, it'd be easier for you to get a loan to make the flight.

But again, there is the matter of kidnapping...
Is there anyone in Europe that will be going that could kidnap Wim? I don't think I'll have the money to fly to Belgium, kidnap Wim, then fly back to the US to kidnap other people

For people looking into tickets, Virgin America has sales all the time to encourage people to fly with them. Somewhat limited in terms of where they fly from, but they keep expanding it. Flights start at $79, and we can all act like we're at a rave and are the beautiful people from all those Vegas commercials! Also, Alaskan Airlines has their hub city as Seattle, so there is that option as well.

I'd rather take out loans for when I really need it, buying a house for example. If all goes well, I won't have to take out a loan here, ever.

Secondly, it's not that I won't have the money necessary for PAX, it's just that I'm planning on using that money for studies. Considering the fact that those studies would cost around $45,000, I don't have a PAX budget for next year.

Really, I would love to go and if I didn't have the discipline I would, but I can't justify spending my money on PAX when I need the money this badly for other purposes.

So I'm at dinner with In-Game Chat (minus Jeremy & Dennis) tonight, and Scott brings this to my attention via his iPhone... you know, since I'm now without the Internets and all.

Pretty hilarious.

It still cracks me up that you saw this and identified me, though.

You must have gotten a pretty good laugh out of this. I know I couldn't stop laughing when Scott showed it to me.

What can I say? I like pro wrestling.

I don't think I would have recognized you without that grin....well you were well placed to be on camera too but you'd blend in without the grin.

Any footage of me beating the shit out of the cheap metal that they have hanging off of the railings during any of the entrances/exits?

We were at the show in Manassass, VA that weekend too, if you happen to have that DVD as well.

No way! It was part of my plan to level-up, before finding out that I could just update that feature through my profile. Ha ha ha!! (Thanks to Scott for that one!)

I'm at my parents house and they still (STILL!!!) have dial-up. This is killing me, but I haven't played or tried to play with the multi-quote function yet. Maybe once I get back to a decent connection, and can tweak more things I'll give it a go. Right now, though, it's just one thing at a time. Ha ha!!

Rogue_hunter

I got an email from Virgin America about a sale they're having right now. Sadly, tickets can't be booked this far in advance. And doing the fare searches, it's 330 days from your trip that you can book flights for most airlines. Only 2 or 3 airlines with fares to the first of August, and those are all ~$330 from LAX to SEA-TAC. Hopefully VA will have a sale in June like they did last year so I can get the flight for $200.

Hell, one of the enforcers is from Australia, as is one of the guys in the PA Forums PAX IRC channel, and he's been to all of them. There's quite the contingent of people coming from England (Krotopkin for sure, and maybe this year he'll actually hang out with us, or at least drop by to say hi), and there's also the CCST and WCTT that offer a somewhat cheaper alternative for international people.

Last year there was Jackel from Alaska, Gaz from England and Sl1pstream from Belgium. No one can really say it's too far, and we're 7 months out, there's plenty of time for planning how to get there.

I'm right here!

I won't be there :(
Sadness.

If BK is expecting a mini-me by then, that will be the only reason I can predict why we would miss it. I know why Slip is missing it, and it's a very good reason as well. For many more PAXen to come.
Awesomeness.

Joey and I actually aren't sure if we're going to make it to PAX next year. Joey's looking for a new job, and I'm just looking for a job. :(
I don't know about you, but I'm planning on going. We can do it if we just budget ourselves. You know, no souvenirs or food and we should have enough to get there and back.

If we end up going, I think we should organize an airport to the hotel carpool. Like Dave did at Vons the last night there. Last year rini and I spent at least a hundred dollars on cabs alone.

You see, I will be more than willing to do airport to hotel/apartment trips for a fee less than the cost of a cab or the shuttle. Not cheaper than the bus, but a lot better and safer. :p

I'm hoping that enough of you will take me up on $5-$10 for airport transportation so that I'll be able to pay to have my car in the hotel garage this year (it was $30/day last year) instead of calling mom to bring the van down to take all the people we could fit into it to the airport/up to another area/kidnap.

I'm even planning on making a silly banner sign thing to stick in the windshield of my car so people will know which car is mine when picking people up.

I even offer the service of a place to park for the people driving into Seattle. We have a huge front yard/driveway with enough room to park at least five vehicles other than mom's van. Scull can attest to this, he parked here last year.

Lastly, I'd like to say that Seattle is way too far for me to travel. The 10 miles from house to convention center is just too much.

Eek. Not the one in Vegas.

The one here constantly smells like a hot mixture of foot odor, piss and vomit. Half of the newer machines are broken, and most of the older ones are so beat-up that they just take up space, basically.

The food is okay, but eating good food in a place that smells like that... just doesn't work.

The bowling alley is the one redeeming factor of the one here - and the smell still messes that all up.
