Picks of the Week

Fables #78 - I haven't mentioned this book in a while, but Willingham has done something which most creators would be terrified to do: change the core conflict of the series for good. From day one the series has revolved around the war (or potential war) with the Adversary: the warlord who had conquered the Fables' homelands. But a few issues back the unthinkable happened, the war was ended, and the dreaded Adversary joined the Fabletown community in New York City. It's something you'd expect to happen in the final issues of the series, but Willingham intends to keep the book going for a long time to come.

JSA Kingdom Come Special Superman #1 - Alex Ross doesn't do many interiors anymore, so any chance to grab some of his art is a treat. Even better, from the previews I've seen, he's evolved his style a little; cleaner, more well defined characters with less of the 'bleed' which plagued some of his art. This special is the beginning of the end of the Kingdom Come storyline in JSA, and promises the ultimate smackdown between the KC Superman and the regular Superman.

Wolverine #69 - Will Old Man Logan go down as one of the all time great storylines? No, but it's been fun, a pleasant road trip through a post-apocalyptic Marvel U. The delays have hurt it, but the central questions of the book - what broke the world, and why has Logan not popped his claws in 80 years - are compelling enough to gloss over some of Millar's ego trips. Plus, Spider-Mobile!

Question of the Week - Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe launches this week, and even though the game itself features toned down fatalities, that doesn't mean we can't speculate! Give me the character - in any universe - and what fatality you'd give them.
