Kind of an odd request I'm making here. I was wondering if we have any members near Denver or nearby who'd be willing to assist a friend of mine who's having a hell of a time right now.

He's an IT guy looking for work or a couch to crash on (after a ridiculous turn of events he's now finding himself living in the ol' truck looking for employment). I can't stress how appreciative I'd be if someone can help him out with either. He's solid and just needs a hand if anyone can lend it. Please PM me if you can, I won't forget it.

I'd help if I could. I realize there is little value in this post, but I thought you'd like to know that people are reading your request.

I got laid off years ago, lost my apartment and ended up living in a 12 ft travel trailer in my buddy's back yard. It's a strong motivator to never let yourself end up in that situation again!

I wish him luck! Or better yet; perseverance and determination! (Luck is a fickle bitch!)

The thing is, who's to say that this person "got him/herself into that situation" willingly? Blaming an individual for being in a situation that's not of their own doing is a little short-sighted.

No blame or assumption intended.

When I got laid off, it wasn't my fault. I was working in a cyclic industry and 9/11 added a lot of impetus to the downward swing. Everybody rated lower than I got laid off, then my number came up. I didn't go into that situation willingly.

I'm just saying that being in that type of situation motivates you to do everything you can to stack the deck in your favor for future incidents. Sure, fate may come along and blindside you; but if you've invested in your education, maintained a network of job references and contacts; when you do get the smack-down, you're better prepared to deal with it and you've got a mechanism in place to get yourself back on your feet.

Both good points. However, there are simply some scenarios that blindside you and through no fault of your own you'd find yourself royally fucked no matter how you prepared.

That's when you turn to the community for help -- which I think is what he was getting at. If you don't take steps to establish a network of friends, be a part of some community, etc., then when life gives you a lemon, you're ROYALLY fucked.

With a community, people will give you sugar you can use to make lemonade with :D

Bump.

Drew,

Best of luck to your friend. Were I still in Colorado I might be of some use to them. Keep us posted and let us know how they get where they're going, though.

Take care.

Sorry to hear your friend is in a bad way; if I lived in Denver (and, you know, didn't have a roommate), I'd probably be willing to lend a couch.

For now, all I can offer is this (http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=IT&l=Denver). I doubt it will, but I hope that helps.

*bump* for great justice. I wish I lived in or near Denver so I could help.

Haven't spent the better portion of a year living on friends' couches, I can empathize. Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near Denver, and I'm often on my own couch (when the kids wake up in the middle of the night like last night and boot me out of bed) :o

Does he have any experience in sales? if he does and doesn't mind traveling and working weekends instead of weekdays I might be able to help.
