Once again, we get to step into the shoes of Jackie Estacado host of The Darkness. Jackie is now the head of a New York crime family and has successfully kept the Darkness contained inside him. Well, until a surprise attack forces him to use it to survive. Jackie is now looking for answers and is forced to deal with the demonic forces of the Darkness to get them.

You will have new foes however, foes who know what the Darkness is and how to combat it. They are the Brotherhood and they are led by Victor Valente and he wants the Darkness for his own. Once they kept the Darkness contained, in order to keep it from destroying the world, but it corrupts everything, even those sworn to contain it. Over time, the Brotherhood's purpose changed, from wanting to contain the Darkness, to controlling it.

Instead of multiple darklings, you now control one, but he is always with you, providing a bit of comic relief and even assisting you in combat. During the demo he was sitting on an enemies shoulders keeping him occupied until Jackie could deal with him. While I will miss the host of Darklings, I think I will like having a more useful partner in this game.

You'll also be able to upgrade Jackie's abilities in four different areas; Weapons, Mystical, Demonic and Gun Channeling. We were mostly shown the Gun channeling abilities. This allows you to channel the darkness through your weapons, doing more damage, at least initially. You will also be able to use to do things like shoot enemies through walls and make the ability last longer.

We were also shown "Quad-Wielding" You will be able to slash or grab objects while dual wielding guns. This allows for many ways to defeat your opponents. Grab an enemy and toss him through a wall while shooting his partners. I didn't get to try this hands on, so I am not sure how easy this will be to accomplish. It looks like a blast though.

So fans of the first game should be excited. This game looks to take you back into the macabre world of of The Darkness that we got to experience a few years ago. Even if you didn't play the original game, The Darkness II looks to be a action packed, violent shooter with a fun story and wonderful visuals. Look for the game October 4th, 2011.

Can't wait to play this. Loved the first.

Now I know who the main enemies are and perhaps why some of them look...different. Odd markings, even mutations. I would assume from the above then, that while you will be a badass against regular joe-shmoe street thugs, these enemies will actually provide some difficulty and challenge. That seemed to be one fear some had, that should alleviate that, for now.

Yep, the first game ruled! I'm looking forward to this as well. :)

Suddenly the game is all cell shaded?

The demo I saw seemed a bit less cell shaded than that video would indicate.

Man, I totally loved the first Darkness. The story sounds even better than the first one! Yay!

The first one had some of my most memorable FPS experiences of all time, enough to overlook its flaws. I'm looking forward to this, but fear that October release means it'll get lost in the shuffle of everything else coming out this fall. So I probably won't wind up getting to it until 2012...

I'm not digging the graphics (or the art direction, I suppose) but that's not going to stop me from picking this up. The first was a lot of fun and I really liked how gritty and dark (...) it was but I'm sure once I get into 2, the art will gel with me and I won't even noticed.

Still, a bit jarring just as far as screen-shots go when I wasn't expecting it.
