Anyone recommend any players to do this that are priced reasonably? We are needing some options at work and I don't know all that much other than they make dvd / vhs players that can do it. Is there a better brand, etc?

I also believe there is a usb thing you can hook up to the computer and plug in a vhs player and record it as a mpg / avi?

most video cards will capture VHS over composite or svideo

Yeah, I don't think we have any computers with updated graphics cards that can even manage S-video... much less a vhs that is newer than 10 years old. This is the federal government we are talking about here =/

/edit I'm probably 1 of 3 people out of maybe 50 here that even knows what a video card is btw... This is not for me to do, so people really aren't in the know how of converting from vhs to pc and then burning to a dvd. Now that I think about it, I don't even know as any of the pcs have a dvd burner.

Those are only about $20 now though.

I've started bringing in my laptop because my work desktop is terrible... we still run windows 2000, my desktop is like 1 gigs o ram and 2.2 ghz single core. I mean damn, I just got a lcd this year, I've had a CRT for the past 3 years I've been here...

Windows 2000? Quit your job.

Gah...I just had an argument the other day over Windows 2000...as in

Me: "Do we even still support that?".

Them: "Someone out there still uses it and we'll get the tech support call for it".

Me: "Tell them to upgrade. I can't be bothered wasting my time on their issues."

Them: "Could be a government contract."

Me: "<grumble> <grumble> Fine...I'll look into it" :(
