Even more news from the EVE Online Fanfest. And this one is a bit more controversial than an expansion. Could EVE developer CCP be brewing up a console FPS based on their popular MMO? Sounds like it's a distinct possibility.Footage was shown of a Halo-like shooter on a daylit, Earth-like planet surface. The architecture and gun designs were clearly redolent of the space MMO's art style.
There was also a third-person view of a land vehicle driving across the surface.Later in that same presentation, EVE honchos mentioned that they had a console strategy in mind, and at least one slide name checked the Xbox 360 and PS3.

While an MMO would probably be too much to ask from this, an online player-controlled marketplace would be awesome, preferably integrated into the game itself.

I would love to see them do a FPS MMO on the consoles. I'll just have to way and see what they do.

Will it have the skills signature analysis and signature focusing?

Hmmm.. cool -- I've often admired the screenshots and videos I've seen of EVE, and been envious of some of the crazy stories people have related about the gameplay, but not being an MMO type, I've never been compelled to try it for myself.. this I might, however..

It would be like Office 2007 with guns?
Seems like an odd thing to just say out of the blue like that. In particular a move from developing in one over-saturated market to an even more over-saturated market. Wish them better luck than EALA has had making a shooter.

I don't know about FPS, but space shooter? That would rock. We needs those. It's been too long since an X-Wing or Tie Fighter. But yeah, FPS? Not really needed.

^^ This! I would love to see a Space Shooter in the eve galaxies, more action based, less spreadsheety would be great. A nice way to use some of those amazing art assets they have.
Barring that, a FPS that takes you inside the ships would be much nicer than some planet side thing. Some of those High Tier warships/titan ships are almost planet sized, why not use them? Let us run around inside the giant cruisers that screenshots make look so neat.

To be fair, EVE isn't exactly for the average MMO audience (insert spreadsheet joke here). I hope that, if they do decide to make a FPS, they try something different too.

As others have said, the FPS market is very over saturated. At this point if you can't put out a AAA title, you might as well not bother.

Oooo, maybe something like Descent. I have been craving something more like that for ages.

Don't we have something similar already? Not a MMO, but a shooter with market trading?
Yup. Here it is (http://store.steampowered.com/app/11240/).
Anyone tried it?

Huh, I haven't even heard of it. I did play plenty of X though. Man, is that game hard or is it hard? Yeah, it's hard.
