Ciders are slowly starting to take off here in the states. Key word being slowly. More and more craft ciders are showing up, but I think a lot of it has to do with sweet apples being so popular here. Sweet apples don't typically make great cider, so if you truly want to make a good cider you need the land to build a dedicated farm that will produce only cider apples. Pear ciders and the like a little easier, but getting customer interest can be tough.
