View Full Version : I've got an office!

Since I started working here, I've been slaving away stuck in the window-less, noisy server room. They just moved me into an office! I've got a window with a view and it's quiet! :D

I've got high-caliber insurance executives in the offices on either side of me, so I can't crank the Gogol Bordello any more. :(

Does it have internal windows? If not then SLACKING TIME!
What's next, a secretary?

Congratulations! I've been stuck in a server room before - for 6 months, in fact. I can attest to it being a sucky environment for working.

Hooray for offices! :D

Yay! I remember when I moved to an office with a skylight (window space is scarce in this office) and how much of a difference it made compared to previously sharing an office with another person.

This will sound bad, but it's great to fart without worrying about the impact on anyone else :D

Yeah, big window right next to the door. But at least I'm facing the door and I won't have people sneaking up on me (And they can't see what's on my monitor!).

In the server room, I faced away from the door and with all the noise from the servers, I could never hear when people came into the room. I put a mirror at the top of my monitor so that I could see if someone was approaching. Regardless, I usually got the crap scared out of me several times a week. Chewed one old lady out royally one time; I usually don't swear like that, but she had it coming!

Still, having people looking in on me isn't going to stop me from enjoying the view whenever I want to!

The leaves are changing and it's stopped raining! :D

Congrats! I've been stuck in large shared offices or cube farms for the past 2 years. One day though....!

hell, it's not even a cube farm since I've only got two walls.
also, I need a new headset...anyone want to donate $250 for a new wireless headset for me?

Oh I forgot to ask, what are you overlooking with your office view?

My office overlooks the parking lot. Just magnificent. :p

I can see the mountains and lake off in the distance, though. :)

Our building is at the top of a small ridge so I'm looking down into a small valley with wooded hills in the distance. Mostly an office park in the valley, but it was well thought out and they kept lots of trees. I just might be able to see Mt. Rainier to the south on a clear day... but I'll probably have to wait till May for that. ;)

Oooo! Looks like a storm is rolling in! :D

Niiiice. We're on the north side of Belltown, right above where 99 starts going underground, so if I get up and walk around the office I can see over Elliott Bay and Lake Union. Also a pretty solid view of the Space Needle, since we're like 4 blocks away from it :P

Way nicer than looking out the window at my old Redmond office and seeing a mall.

I had an office a long time ago. It looked across to an apt building. Let's just say a very nice bedroom view...I can't believe I was fired due to lack of productive work :D

Some asshole manager tried to push me out of mine and into the server room. I took his wise ass in there and asked if he would mind moving in there. He said it was "too noisy", I said "exactly". End of conversation.

Fucking retard.

Congrats on yours.

Very nice. I just have a desk in the backroom of the store, and I face the wall, so everybody gets to sneak up behind me. Very difficult to do any recreational surfing while at work.

Luckily nobody really knows what I do, so I can usually play it off as work as long as the website isn't something like youtube or something.

There is this one lady that works there (who just happens to come into the back a lot) that I swear was trained by ninjas. She moves completely silently, it's astonishing. Even when I'm looking right at her, I can't detect any sounds that are tied to her movement. Creepy.

Congrats on the office. Does it come equipped with a mini fridge?

I have a 9x10 cube. I'm not complaining because most have a 6x6. 6 x friggin 6. I can't imagine if they ever move me to something that small. Where the heck would I put all of the paper work strolled across my desk and credenza? Come to think of it, I don't need an office. It would be a total mess.

Upload the pics so we can all print them out and hang them on our cubicle walls and share the view. :)

What kind of action were you watching Purple?

I'm going to say puppet shows. Yeah. Puppet shows.

Hooray for offices! :D

I once had to share an office with 3 other people (4 people including me). All of us had desktops, and then there were 3 small tower servers in the same office, about 10x25. Zomg it sucked, a wiring mess and hot and noisy.

Now I share an office with 2 other part time people that is like 20x25, much better.

For about 5 months though, I got that 10x25 office to my self after one moved out and the other 2 quit, it rocked =/

I'll take my camera in on Monday and snap some pics.

Now I need to take a look around the house and see if I can find any "tasteful" artwork that I can put up on the walls.

I should probably just get some LP album frames and put up some of my freaky '70s album covers!

John Cale - Guts

That might turn a few heads! :D

Damn, sounds like something I would do ;) We're a small company, so a lot of us multitask. My "other job" is office manager...so, yah, we get a kick out of pulling stunts like that :)

Windows do make all the difference though. We're in the process of moving a block over from a half a floor with one set of windows to a whole top floor with 3 sides with windows...and 2 humongous skylights. Of course, being in charge of where people sit has it's advantages :) Mwahahahaha.

It's nice to know when the sun is out or if it's stormy. I used to come out of the server room after a nasty morning to see that the sun had been out for hours. Hated that disconnection from reality!

I'm stuck in a cube and I can relate to this completely. I look forward to the day when I can get an office.

I sit in a cube, but it's kind of like a SUPERCUBE OF DOOM!

It's got 2 walls approximately 7' high, and the other 2 walls are the side of the building, all windows. Pretty nice for an IT schmuck. Guess there are good things about the IT manager of the building leaving... taking former co-workers cubes FTW.

I used to have an office with a view to the beach, some times I could see some topless girls… Then we moved to another city and my office now has a view to a tire factory.

Enjoy your view man! Congrats.

Rode my motorcycle in today! First time I've been riding since I had shoulder surgery! Yay!

Wish I could see my parking spot from my window!

What am I saying! I'd never get any work done!

I used to have an office at Boeing where I could see Interstate-90 from my window. Every August I could see all the motorcycles heading out to Sturgis; A week later they'd all come cruising back. Talk about staring off into space!
