View Full Version : [Rumor] Persona 4 Portable Announcement Monday

RPGFan (http://www.mayonaka-tv.jp/) is reporting on a little Japanese website that was found that looks to be pointing towards something Persona 4 related. Here's why:
The site name and page title, 'Mayonaka TV' is nearly identical to Persona 4's 'Midnight Channel,' as mayonaka can be translated as 'midnight.' It's also the name of the Midnight Channel in the Japanese version of the game.
The offbeat yellow and black colors within a TV set aren't something you see everyday, and bears more than a resemblance to images seen in Persona 4 (see in particular the official Persona 4 site.)
The mayonaka-tv.jp domain name can be traced to a registrant of GMO Internet Inc. A trivial piece of information, until you consider GMO Internet is also linked to Atlus' online store in Japan. We've seen several cases before where a company will register a domain through an affiliated company, so the teaser site can't easily be traced back to them.
So whether this means the last remaining Persona game* is going to get a PSP port or not is debatable, but we'll know Monday.
Oh, and here's the site (http://www.mayonaka-tv.jp/) they're referring to, complete with everyone's favorite thing, a countdown clock.
I'd be really really happy if this is Persona 4 portable, I loved what I played of it but I just can't bring myself to play in the room where I have the PS2 hooked up anymore, it's essentially the kids' DVD player now. Stupid BC PS3 breaking.......
*I know frederec is going to correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I'm 99% sure both Persona 2 games were announced, but only one is deep in development at this point.

Okay, you had to bring it up, but as of right now, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment hasn't been announced for the PSP. However, since they've ported Innocent Sin, it would be weird if they didn't do Eternal Punishment too.
And yeah, the yellow color scheme and the TV are very suggestive. After all the versions of Persona 3, I've been hoping for something like this for a while. I like Persona 4 better than Persona 3 in many ways, and I've been wanting a version with some of the neat add-ons and bonuses we've seen in Persona 3 (in particular a high-level post-game dungeon).

Have they actually released P2:IS? Or just in Japan?
And as much as I love P4, I'd really rather they work on P5.

This.
But at least with a remake/port of P4, I would be buying a game I don't already own 2+ times. :p

Just in Japan. And it's not quite out yet. It's getting released on the fourteenth. I'm hoping Atlus will announce a localization before too long.

True, but generally speaking the people that work on these ports aren't the same people that work on new games, at least not full-time. So I don't look at projects like this as preventing us from getting new games. If anything, they could possibly help fund new games, since it costs less to develop ports. I would expect now that Catherine is out, they're probably working on a new Persona (or other MegaTen game) as we speak, but it's too early to announce.

The bizarre part is they don't need a P4P like they needed a P3P. P4 doesn't need any improvements and time and again they said they wouldn't remake P4.
I guess P3P sold too much. :p
That site is definitely something Persona 4 related, though. It's also worth noting that Persona 4's story starts on April 11th, 2011 inside the game. It's absolutely no coincidence that the announcement falls on that date.
[edit] It's an anime show. From NeoGAF's moderator duckroll (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=27016398&postcount=6745):
http://www.mayonaka-tv.jp is registered by Aniplex, and some of the source code is hosted on http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Animation/
If you access the site using a DoCoMo phone, you get this: http://twitpic.com/4iucmf
It clearly says the page header is "Persona 4 Animation".
Seems like an open and shut case to me. Will wait for announcement to see if there's a better staff/studio assembled this time. Trinity Soul was awful.

I personally don't think they ever needed P3P, or even FES, though I enjoyed them. The original Persona 3 is not an incomplete game, even though the versions after it added to it and improved it. I think they could do the same with Persona 4. I felt the female version of Persona 3 worked very well, and I would welcome the same thing for Persona 4.
Though the point is likely moot, since as you said, it looks like it's going to be an anime. My interest is decidedly lessened for an anime rather than a game, especially since Trinity Soul didn't go over too well. But who knows? Maybe it'll be awesome.

In other words, a total waste of fucking time.

LiquidRain - killer of joy. ;)
Bleh, that does suck, I'll still hold out hope for a P4P.

Killer of joy?
Man a Persona 4 anime could be awesome if it's done right. (yes, yes, Trinity Soul sucked)
(and "awesome" would, in my opinion, involve getting together the original North American voice cast.)

I would watch a Persona 4 anime, at least if it actually had something to do with Persona 4. The main problem with the little bit of Trinity Soul that I watched was that it was just some vague, slightly Persona-ish thing that didn't have any characters I actually liked or cared about. Just follow the P4 story, or at least be about the same characters.

I wonder how closely this will follow the story of P4. I might end up watching this before I get around to playing the game unfortunately.
