Way to stay in the pocket of big business NC. Reading stuff like this makes me hate this state.

Think it's time to 'shop your avatar to a panther with a dial-up modem. ;)

I really hate the TWC stranglehold here. At least many areas of Raleigh also have uVerse to compete to at least SOME extent.
But yeah "The government can't provide a service people want because it might put bloated corporate giants out of business" is ridiculous. Internet as a utility is a really good idea.
My wife and I are actually in Asheville right now on a "should we move here" trip and I'm both glad and worried that I stumbled across this.

This should be pretty far down your list of reasons to move or not move somewhere. Asheville's very nice outside of the rednecks and hippies (read: everyone in Asheville).
My wife and I are very quickly realizing that we fit in too well here.

I assume this means you are a hippie redneck.

I can't remember the name now, but there's an awesome BBQ joint in Asheville that has the most amazing sauce selection I've ever witnessed in a BBQ joint. Went there in 2010 to see The Black Keys at the Orange Peel. Left with a full belly.

Not a bad idea. Might want to change it to the Tarheel ram instead with a TWC logo.:D

Don't have TWC here. We have Shittylink, er Suddenlink instead. And they won't even expand their service areas. So I'm stuck with DSL from Centurylink/ Embarq.

Time to move then.:D

I moved from Georgia up to the Triangle area here last year and I was appalled at the internet service available in the area. We're paying more money for much, MUCH slower service. The Triangle is supposedly one of the smartest regions in the country, and Georgia is, well, Georgia. Why the fuck do they have such better internet down there?
ISPs seem to operate outside the laws of the normal market. No healthy competition, just shit, shit, and more shit, and the government not thinking twice about the consumers.

This would be one of those cases where an assumption proves correct. I've been trying to keep her from running out into the city barefoot with her rifle but I'm not sure how much longer I can hold her back.

Seriously check if you can get uVerse. It's not the best thing in the universe, but it beats the hell out of Road Runner. RR usually gave me 20% of the advertised speed, uVerse rarely gives me less than 80%.
