aka Wuseekend Gaming - JAYoung

Weekend Gaming has a guest writer this week. So send all praise or hate mail to Spigot this week. Thanks Spigot for the introductory to WG.

And the Lord looked at His calendar and saw that it was November. He then cast his gaze upon the gamers and said, "Let there be games."

And there were games. A deluge of games that swept across the land, covering the masses and washing away all of their free time and money. And they were not seen or heard from again for the entire weekend.

I don't know what anyone else's backlog is looking like, but mine is still growing. I'm not really going to make much headway this weekend either. I'm back to writing papers again. What I might be playing:

Dead Space- I actually finally finished the first chapter. Yeah, I know I'm slow. But I'm really enjoying this game. Not GOTY for me or anything but it's a very good game. Certainly worth it if you bought it. Hell if people can recommend Alone in the Dark, you should be going out and supporting EA for some original content.

GH III- Going to try to play a few tunes which most likely will happen after playing Dead Space to long and I need a break from the creepiness.

Castlevania: OoE- Went out and bought this last weekend with some Best Buy Reward dollars. It's nice I buy games and they just sit. I realize this is the norm with many gamers but usually not for me. I put aside Time Hollow to play this. Maybe I'll play on my DS instead of my laptop and NOT lurk around here so much.

Collecting dust: SR 2, FO 3, Fable 2, GOW 2, Time Hollow, EO2 and Silent Hill Homecoming. More to be added weekly...

So what are you playing?

I'm hoping to finally manage to put some serious time into Fable 2. I've had it for a week and don't think I've played for more than 4 hours yet, and one and a half of those hours was working as a bloody Blacksmith.

Probably some Fable 2 and Castlevania: OoE (I really enjoy this Castlevania). Outside of that, not much at all.

I'm playing:

Mega Man 9 (When I'm not cursing at the screen.)
Halo 3 (I listen to podcasts while playing multiplayer)
Rock Band 2 (Get on and play with me!)
Fallout 3 (Yes, I'm finally done with that survival guide!)
Super Mario RPG (And I'm loving it so far!)

If the GameStop pre-order I have is anything to go by, I believe it's supposed to ship on the 11th[?] next week.

More Fallout 3. I am some 25-30 hours in and I haven't even touched the main story yet. This game is AWESOME!!! If I need a Fallout 3 break maybe some Left 4 Dead demo or Team Fortress 2.

Little Big Planet, I cannot get enough of this game, and Gears 2.

Picking up Gears 2 tonight at Circuit City. Can't go wrong with a 1600 pt card for free, spending my $10 gift card from Fallout 3 last week, too. Nice.

Pure is showing up today from Gamefly too, probably. I'll dabble in that a bit.

But Fallout 3 is an addictive bitch. I'm almost level 8 and I still have 75% of the map to explore, I think, and I'm sitting between 25-30 hours invested. Just got Dogmeat last night, by pure chance. Didn't even expect to find him there, while traveling around to my next location.

If I can pull myself away from F3, I'll hopefully get to play the two former games. But man, I love Fallout.

Finishing up my first playthrough of Fable 2 (at least get to see the end of the main quest, don't know what happens then). Start a new evil character and do it all again. I love that game. I really missed something like this.

LBP!

Maybe start a proper run with Fallout 3, I kinda let it slide when Fable 2 got it's hooks in me this week. Also being a good guy in Fallout 3 is kinda boring. Talking you're way out of stuff really can be a snore. Especially because sometimes conversations reach bits which don't fit into the current scene. Feels kinda rough.

Picking up Gears 2 *editorial snip*

If I can pull myself away from F3, I'll hopefully get to play the two former games. But man, I love Fallout.

I'm so frustrated that I can't play my copy yet. Well I can...just choosing not to. I can't get lost in a game like that right now...but every time you talk more about it, it's another twinge toward playing. Of course when I do start playing I hope I get immersed in the game as those who are enjoying it.

I want GOW 2 for the giant gun in the pre-order. GOW 2 for me is easier to put aside. I'll be playing that sometime over the winter...

11-07-2008, 05:30 AM
Woo, yeah, bring it on sucka!

Gears of War 2, obviously. :)
Maybe some more Dead Space (you think you're slow, I was at ten hours before I hit Chapter 9).

Spigot
11-07-2008, 05:34 AM
Wuseekend, eh?

This needs to be frontpaged, my dear Santa.

Anyway, I finished up Dead Space at around 1:30am or so last night. Such a good game. Now I'm torn. Do I keep it and check out the shiny new suit I unlocked or trade it in towards Gears 2, which I will only get if I have enough store credit to cover the purchase?

Now that Dead Space is put to rest... IN PIECES... I shall get started on a few other games, such as:

Fallout 3 - For a game I swore I would not get, am I ever glad I broke my vow. It's already infinitely better than Oblivion. The combat is solid and the world is actually interesting, what with most towns looking unique and the people you encounter being something other than cardboard cutouts with the same 4 voices. I'm about 10 hours or so into it and haven't even strayed anywhere close to the main quest.

Valkyria Chronicles - I'd hoped to get my copy of this yesterday but nobody in the area seems to have it in stock yet. It is pretty much paid off at EB but that wouldn't have stopped me from grabbing it elsewhere if I could find it. I'm hoping against hope that my copy shows up today.

LittleBigPlanet - This will depend on how much time the servers decide to stay up this weekend. I'm on the final level of the Story mode.

Other than those big three, I'll probably try some portable gaming of one sort or another. I also have Penny Arcade Ep. 2 to tinker away at and, as always, the soul-rending Peggle, which has me in its icy grasp.

I've also been playing the "Catch The Puke" minigame with my kids this week. My son has been sick for the past two and a half days and I think he's over it, but I've gotten next to no sleep (staying up till 2ish last night didn't help) and the babysitter's kid has whatever he had, so I can't even drop the kids off and go to work to relax tonight :P

Finished my first play through of Dead Space last night, still kinda hooked and want to check it out more.

Also want to look into Fall out 3 some if I have time.

Have 3 and a presentation to finish this weekend before the Thankgiving break. I'm going out of town the following weekend Fri-Sunday so I gotta get them all done now :(

Highly doubt I will have much time to play.

My weekend should consist of LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, and Final Fantasy XI. I'll be picking up Valkyria Chronicles at Circuit City on sale Sunday, but I doubt I'll crack that open. LBP and R2 need more time and I don't want to start VC until I can really dedicate some hours to it. I took Monday off, so having a 3 day weekend should help. :)

My weekend will probably consist of some RA3, some nba 2k9 for the most part.
Probably a smattering of these following games maybe:
End war, GOW2, Resistance 2, Midnight club la, fallout 3, and fable 2.

I might actually start dead space though so who knows....

Gotta get going on Fallout 3, then there's Resistance 2, Gears 2 may show up - depending on the mail. Plus I've started Warcraft 3 the Frozen Throne, and I've returned to WoW after a long hiatus (must..respec...don't...know...which..talents..urk ). Finally, I've started a second playthrough of Fable 2. Going for a morally neutral (situational ethics anyone?) warrior type. Swinging around a monster ax is a bunch of fun!

Damn...I'm going need a bigger coffee pot...

Gears of War 2, obviously. :)
Maybe some more Dead Space (you think you're slow, I was at ten hours before I hit Chapter 9).
Well now I don't feel to bad :D. It's just I explore every nook and cranny...cause i'm OCD that way in games...and I just sit and play for short spurts. Short spurts like 1/2 an hour than i'm done. So this is going to take me some time...just glad i'm not alone in my slow poke mode :p
Wuseekend, eh?
*sigh*. I hate my laptop. That's all i'm going to say. FU to HP with the extra sensor bar or whatever the damn thing is that gives you more movement from the touch pad. My palm moves the cursor when it shouldnt' be moving...
This needs to be frontpaged, my dear Santa.
One of the CoG gods...I mean Mods ...will eventually move it. I like posting it as soon as I think of it. I'm to lazy to do it the other way as you explained to me. And hopefully the CoG Gods/Mods will change that awful unintended typo to...<shakes fist at laptop>

Anyway, I finished up Dead Space at around 1:30am or so last night. Such a good game. Now I'm torn. Do I keep it and check out the shiny new suit I unlocked or trade it in towards Gears 2, which I will only get if I have enough store credit to cover the purchase?
This is why you didn't go back to sleep...playing Dead Space at midnight...I know it's not scary...to you...but explain why you didn't sleep :p. And i'd trade in DS so you can get GOW 2. Just for the online play alone...not that i'll be around so you can kill me easy or anything...you'll have to wait for January for that...if you and anyone else around here is still playing it :(

You and Kelegacy are killing me. I want to play this so bad and I just can't till the semester is over. Glad to hear though it's a game I need to play...since I bought the survival edition :o

Another one I am going to be renting...only because of you...and Gorvi...damn i'm so easily influenced...damn my following ways...

LittleBigPlanet - This will depend on how much time the servers decide to stay up this weekend. I'm on the final level of the Story mode.
How sad is this...I forgot I had this game  Another I am just waiting to enjoy because i don't want to play this in spurts...

I've also been playing the "Catch The Puke" minigame with my kids this week.
I am expecting this to be on XBL next year

Gears of War 2
Resistance 2
Left 4 Dead
Valkyria Chronicles
Fallout 3
Saint's Row 2
LittleBigPlanet
...and probably some NHL09 so I can finally enter the playoffs!

So many games to play...and I still haven't finished Dead Space, Fable 2, or several others from earlier in the year. Please, Winter Gods, bring us a gaming drought for a few months...please? Please?

Gears 2 of course. If I get some time I might do some side quests in Fable 2, continue Far Cry 2 or get back to my second playthrough of Dead Space. So many games already, and next week Mirror's Edge comes along. And I haven't even bought LBP or Fallout 3 yet! Crazy shit.

My wife is working tomorrow so I'll be catching up on household chores... Right!

More ass-kicking in The Witcher! I picked up Mass Effect on sale the other day so I might create a Shepard and get a start on that.

Logged on to Steam last night to buy Audiosurf and ended up grabbing X-COM: UFO Defense, too. Not bad; both for only $8 USD. Next thing I knew I was hunting Greys on a farm in the dark! SWEEEEET!

I have not been able to stop playing Fallout 3, but I'll probably throw in some Rock Band 2 this weekend as well. I will wait to pick up Gears 2 as there is no way I can handle having another new game just sit on the shelf with Fable 2 and Dead Space while I spend all of my time in the Wasteland. May as well wait and pick it up used after the holidays.

Thanks for the good wishes. Given the symptoms that have developed over the last month or so, there is a very good chance it will just confirm what both I am my doctor already suspect, which is that I have Multiple Sclerosis. My symptoms match now almost perfectly and I had an aunt that died of it at 43 (it is often genetic).

But regardless, I'm not going anywhere anytime in the immediate future. Still plenty of time to play Gears and Fallout 3 regardless of the results. :)

This weekend, other than Left4Dead and Fallout3 on the PC, I'm going to try and go through my backlog of 360 games that stretches far far back.

First up is going to be Turok. I won that game off of one of Co-Optimus' first giveaways and I'm ashamed to say I've barely played it. So, I hope to finish that bad boy up and re-gift it to another member.

For the life of me - I WILL FINISH DEADSPACE.

And then Gears 2. My buddy and I are planning a marathon playthrough tomorrow. All day if we have to.Do it! It has a satisfying finale, though I traded it in today for Gears 2 with nary a hesitation. It's one of those games that is incredibly enjoyable but that I can't see myself running back to replay any time soon and if I DO decide that I need to play it again, I'll just get it for $9 used somewhere in a year or two.

Anyway, weekend update!

Due to some kind of arcane loophole in the financial continuum, I was able to somehow go down to EB (and the neighbouring Wal-Mart), spend $100 and come home with Gears 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Castlevania: Order Of Ecclesia and the blu-ray version of Kung-Fu Panda. Not a bad haul for $100! Yes, there were trade ins involved but only Dead Space today...

Looks like I'll be pretty busy this weekend. I was kind of ticked that EB didn't have my Valkyria Chronicles and that I had to go over to Wal-Mart to procure it. It's especially odd given that they are both in the same parking lot. Oh well.

I am up for some Horde Mode this weekend if anyone wants a loose cannon on their team. Otherwise, I hope to sink prodigious amounts of time into Valkyria.

And Dan: I hope the MRI goes well!

Did you get Gold? Are we going to do some Horde mode?

I have it for one month and will probably renew it if I have a lot of fun with Horde mode! I haven't tried it out yet because Joey and I are co-oping the campaign. I'm down to play at some point, but I'm warning you now (ahead of time) that I'm pretty bad. :p

This...and then Valkyria Chronicles, followed by more Valkyria Chronicles. Skirmish mode will likely be the end of me.

I have a family history of MS as well, so it's always been a possibility (a fairly high one) that I'll be diagnosed with it at some point. I used to be paranoid about this, but I finally accepted it and now I just hope for the best.

I really do wish you the best of luck.

I expect some lengthy details from a lot of game playing in the Monday Blues thread :pYou have no idea :)

I'll definately have to mention the most awkward Gears 2 multiplayer match last night... When someone asked, while going through the roster in the party, "Hey, who's Agent Red?"

Anyone who thought the demo was far too easy, the levels do have a lot more variety and challenge than the level found in the demo, once you get past the first couple levels.

The first Skirmish level is identical to the demo, except the demo had a tank and the game doesn't, so it's not particularly difficult. It's really just a good way to build up extra money and experience before going through the main story battles. I'm at the battle where you're taking back the bridge, so I want to make sure my guys are ready.

Surprisingly well, actually. They even got Siraris in the match for a while, which was even more amusing for those of us on the sidelines.

Everyone was civil and talk was kept to the game itself, not any of the anxillary nonsense, so it was cool. But man... talk about a very awkward silence and lots of nervous laughter when that question was asked.

And I'd love it if those of us who are a little less skilled than the rest of the Gears-heads had a gang. I always end up playing with or against Foodnipple and FrogGodHero and those guys are just on some other plane of existence when it comes to these games. I need people a little closer to my level!

Yeah, same! It's like the campaign is easy enough for me to play through in Insane (though I haven't unlocked it yet in 2), but the moment you put me with a bunch of other people, I'm kind of bad at it. I know Variable Gear, Purple Santa, Squidbot, pomeroy, and I all expressed interest in playing with a noob team on Horde. I haven't tried it out yet, but you should join. :)

Someone else plays Helix? I thought I was the only person in the world! The Mrs. and I play a few times every week on the Wii. Super fun, and quite a workout!

I play Helix too. That's right, three people in the world play this game! ;)

Oh yeah. Given that I was the one who was pimping it in the old WiiWare thread. :p

Kamalot: I had to sideline it for some other WiiWare titles, but since I've been able to sit and actually play it, I at least play the game every day (2-3 sessions). Between Helix, Samba de Amigo, and We Cheer, I think the controls for Helix are the best.

Having a 15yr old daughter (who will be at the LAN party this year), we try a LOT of these games. I've played Samba de Amigo, Helix and All Star Cheer Squad (Never ever try it) and Helix takes the cake when it comes to controls and downright FUN!

Sadly, the maracas on the Dreamcast version of Samba were much more enjoyable and precise than using the Wii remotes.

Yeah, it's because of the terrible people online that I rarely play multiplayer (unless it's with people I know). I have a feeling you'll do much better when you play with people you know since everyone'll be more supportive. Our noob team made it to wave 23 before everyone disbanded. The cursor setup that's used for Samba de Amigo effectively kills what's otherwise a very fun game, as I've never played the Dreamcast original. :(

What was Gearbox Software thinking when they made it that you use the wii-motes to move the cursors into position, then hit the note!? One of the most stupidest uses of the wii-mote in my opinion.
