NDP wants to tax tax tax...Liberals have no leadership and have some pretty crappy tech policies.

For someone whose not Canadian, what are the individual parties platforms?
Conservatives - Status quo which has been pretty good as we have weathered the economic storm very well.
Liberals - No one really knows hence my comment on their lack of leadership above. What I do know is that they are pro-DMCA/protecting dinosaur industries. TrackZero has memo from his local liberal candidate that is pretty horrid.
NDP - Tax the rich, prop up the poor. Their leader is pretty charismatic and he's actually not a bad choice except he seems to be all about raising the tax on the rich/corporations along with more spending in the budget. In a time such as now, more spending/discouraging business is not really the best thing right now. They suffer from calling out the opposition, but not providing any strong solutions.
Parti-Quebecois - A non-party outside of Quebec...pro everything Quebec. They usually just cause trouble due to taking seats away from other parties.

Here's my stance:
1) I want a majority. I don't really care whom, but I want one so whomever's in power can get some actual work done.
2) I approve of the Tories intention to keep more money in my pocket, and I somewhat approve of their 'tough on crime' aims, but otherwise, I'm not a fan. I'd prefer the Libs are in power because I like more of their social plans, and their tax policy tends to be not too bad.
3) The main problem with the Liberals is Ignatieff is a sleaze, and I don't trust him to do anything but end up as another Chretien, and for us to have a bunch of massive corruption scandals after a couple years. He's scum, and the biggest hindrance to the Liberals right now.
4) The Tory MP for my riding is a hyper-religious, hyper-conservative nutbar whom I can't even bring myself to talk to without wanting to wash myself, let alone vote for.

Probably Green, unless some other small-party candidate catches my eye. Bring on the minority governments, please. If I do not agree with any of the main choices, why would I want them to have majority power?

I didn't vote as I'm not Canadian, but I did want to throw my opinion in here. I wish you guys would vote to someone with some balls and I wish your government would stand up to the US and go ahead and legalize pot already, like ya'll have been wanting to do for years. You need a President that will tell the US to fuck right off. As it stands right now, you've got a big pussy running the country.

Bring back Martin and I would vote Liberal, but no fucking way I will vote for this shithead.
The NDP would bankrupt Canada in about 20 minutes, but fortunately they have about the same chances of getting elected as I do getting hit by a meteor.
So PC it is, again, even if I don't much like Harper. The fact we are were we are financially is a credit to our government who ignored the Liberals, Bloq and Ndp calling to spend spend spend.
Oh, and the Bloq is a good part of the reason why I think Quebec can go fuck itself... once it repays its portion of the debt that is.

Because these minority governments, especially with the wide gulf between parties, only means we get stupidly frequent elections and no one has any chance to anything significant.
I don't particularly want the Tories in power, but I'd rather they had a majority than another minority government.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Grow some balls man! Doesn't the US get a lot of their oil from Canada? You have a hold of us by the short and curlys. You guys just need to take charge. Don't talk about militarization either. The bigger they are the harder they fall. Canada should make friends with China. Then the US would be fucked.

Yes, easy for me to say. I see how we (the US) push everyone around, but no one has to take it. Think about history, how has it gone for other empires in the past that were pushy like the US? Rome? Greece? They all destroyed themselves due to greed. It's no different now. The US is already on it's way out.

Trust me, you would hate legalized pot...It's already essentially decriminalized. Legalizing it would mean adding a ton of bureaucratic red tape and taxes. Don't expect you'll be allowed to grow 50 plants in your basement and sell it on the street.
As it stands, you can easily grow up to 5 plants without the legal system even giving a rats ass. In BC, at least, you can grow up to 49 plants and they'll just raid your house (if they find you) and take all your equipment (extremely rare to even get a criminal charge). Over 50 plants and then it's a "growing for the purposes of trafficking" charges.

I am voting conservative but for the record, I voted liberal when Cretian and Martin headed the party. In the last few elections it really has been a matter of choosing the lesser evil.
I love how Americans feel so entitled to boss Canada around that we're now ordering them to stand up for themselves. And the Canadians are just kind of politely bewildered. This is my new favorite thread.
P.S. The reference to the Canadian "President" is just icing.

Really? You need to listen to local radio/read papers.
There appears to be an intense growing anger placed squarely on the shoulders of the Liberals and the NDP for disbanding the government and causing the expense of an election at this time.
Basically, there was zero advantage for the NDP or Liberals to cause this election to happen. At the minimum, the Conservatives will get a minority government again. At the worst (for the NDP/Liberals), the Conservatives will get a majority.
It reeks of zero foresight on the part of the opposition parties.

I don't buy into the whole "wasting your vote" bullshit. Change has to start somewhere, and it will never happen if you resign yourself to voting for the best of the shit platter that are the main parties. If you actually agree with the platform of one of those parties, more power to you. I do not, so they do not get my vote.

This is how I feel as well. Unfortunately, I vote for the green party at election, and I can't help but feeling I threw my vote away, as the guy never even stands a change. Usually getting around 1% of the vote. :(

Yeah Harper is pretty stratifying. His pro military, pro global exposure is probably his defining love/hate characteristic. Me, after years of liberal abuse, which have lead directly to deaths ( Sea King bs ), I am ready to support the military and to stop riding on the US coattails for defense, as unpopular as that is in Canada. Plus I think the CPP is fucking toxic, so pouring more money in is fucking retarded.
On the flipside,Harper is such an unpersonable douche.

Yeah, if they went with Bob Rae, he would be lucky to get a single seat in Ontario. You can't win in Canada without Ontario.
Unless of course you somehow get the Quebec + Western Canada vote, but given how diametrically opposite these two factions are... yeah right.

Maybe the Bloc should try to court the Albertan separatist vote next election. Could hardly do worse.
Actually, as I was following the election results, I saw that the Bloc actually had the second-most votes in Quebec, but consistently got slammed by the NDP in all their old ridings. Was Layton courting the separatists or something?
