Anyone playing this? It's dominated my attention for the past week or so. It's like a monster hunter with Dynasty Warriors style combat (which more emphasis put on long range).
I spend a lot of time creating bullets (basically spells). Some really interesting combinations can be made here.

I was just logging on to start up a thread about this game. I don't think I'd bring Dynasty Warriors into the equation, as I'm not getting that vibe from the game at all.
I would more call it something like a Monster Hunter Lite. The basic premise is the same (team up with up to 3 other players and take down giant creatures, and use the spoils to craft new gear), but on Gods Eater Burst the focus is definitely 80% on the combat and 20% on gathering and crafting. It's a much faster-paced game, and easier to play in bite-sized chunks.
The "gathering" has been reduced to simply having some sparkly things scattered around the edges of the maps... no mining, digging, picking, fishing, and other such activities this time around like in MH. To be honest, I thought there was always a bit too much of this in MH, but the near-complete lack of it here does make me miss it (in MH, you start to enjoy farming up materials after a while).
The monsters so far (just opened up Rank 3) have been pushovers compared to the stuff in MH... for beginners to this type of game this one's a bit easier to get into. For many that complain about the sheer difficulty of MH, this is not a bad thing. I'm hoping it does get tougher eventually, though.
I like the God Arc concept - the transforming gun/sword combo is kinda neat and works well. It lacks the variety of MH but since I stuck to 2-3 weapons anyway it's not that bad, and it's nice to be able to carry both a ranged and melee weapon at the same time.
The bullet crafting is AWESOME... you can make so many different types of shots that behave in many different ways. Sticky-shots, spread shots, shots that hit the enemy and then split or pile on the damage, aerial shots that rain down bombs as they go, homing shots, homing spread laser shots, bullets that heal, etc.... and you unlock more and more as you go. I wish there was a better resource for learning how to program the bullets than what's offered in-game, but the ability to press START and test the shot out as you craft it makes the trial and error process painless. It's a really cool idea, and something that sets the game apart from the other Monster Hunting games.
I haven't spent too much time with the game yet, but I have to admit it's one of the best things I've played on my PSP in a while. It's far easier to get into than Monster Hunter, and while it may not be as intricate or detailed, it runs very nicely and is a good game to play in short play sessions. It doesn't feel like you have to commit to it like you do MH, so it works well with the more casual crowd. Having AI partners when no one's around to play is a great thing and something I wish Capcom would do (but Capcom at least makes the monsters weaker when you're playing solo), and it's not nearly as punishing. I still like Monster Hunter, but until Portable 3rd comes out here in the US, I'd recommend Gods Eater to anyone as a good intro to the genre.

I only meant the actual combat was similar to Dynasty Warriors. You've got a set 3-5 hit combo depending on weapon where you can switch up between light and heavy attack.
I totally agree on the bullet making. My favorite combos seems to be pretty simplisitic so far. homing shot -> control facing enemy -> double laser fire -> large bomb. It looks very cool. I have another favorite that shoots six close knit lasers at once.
Currently in difficulty 4, and the monsters themselves don't get harder but they just start combining them. Having to fight a Gboro-Gboro and a Quadirga (each has the opposite elemental weakness/strengths of the other) is pretty intense.

I've only played the tutorial missions and the first story mission, but I'll have to find some more time for it since you both make it sound pretty awesome. I think I actually spent more time making my character than actually playing; damn all those choices.
I would actually like something a little easier than Monster Hunter, and although I do enjoy the gathering in MH sometimes, a lot of the time I just don't want to spend the time trying to get lucky for some component I need. So this sounds perfect for me, and then there's still MH when you want that sort of thing. Plus there's huge, crazy, transforming weapons that devour things. You can't really go wrong with that.

I've only played a little bit, but I think it is a really solid title. Also, I love the character customization, they had some options that really appealed to me. I think the game is a nice blend of Phantasy Star Portable and Monster Hunter.

I'm handling this game all wrong. With the amount of time I put in, I should be so much further. I refuse to move to the next difficulty until I've created/upgraded every gun, shield and sword from my preferred categories until I have no options left. I hardly ever end up using a good deal of them, but it's just some kind of weird obsession. Assault guns, light swords, buckler shields if anyone wanted to know.
