Wow, when considering directors for comic adaptations, never once did the name Kenneth Branagh come to mind. But, according to Variety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117993032.html?categoryid=13&cs=1), he's in negotiations to direct the Thor film, which is being written by Mark Protosevich.

I have to say, like Favreau on Iron Man, it's an unexpected but inspired choice. Branagh's Shakespearean films have been tremendous, and that sensibility would work wonderfully on Thor in my opinion.

I'll agree, that's certainly an inspired choice. Perhaps Thor shall speak in iambic pentameter?

My jaw dropped a little upon reading the headline, but with this sentence you pulled it into perspective for me. It makes sense, the more I think about it.

Hopefully, it's not OVERdone.

I actually haven't seen many of the movies he's directed, so I don't know how I feel about this. All I know is that I wasn't a fan of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. But I'm keeping an open mind.

What happened to Vaughn? I wondered how he was going to do Kick-Ass and Thor but I'd never heard of him officially backing out of Thor.

There was an article floating about that he "fell out of favor," for one reason or another. He seemed like the go to guy for a long time, but alas, no more.

So is he going to be a God. All mythic like? Who the hell out of all these director's will head up Avengers?

At first I was unsure of the idea, but then I remembered how great Henry V was.

I'm a fan of pheriannath's idea that Thor's going to have to speak in iambic pentameter. He has to pause for five seconds to denote the start of a new line. :D

Kick-Ass just started filming, and the 4th issue just came out recently. George Cloony's production company bought the film rights after the 3rd issue, and got working on the movie really fast. I'll try to dig up the story with a production shot.

Makes sense.

I think I saw that before and just forgot about it. Awesome.

I still like the one about using hyphen in the wrong place.

If he directs the movie in that style, it would make for interesting confusing type lulz with the other Avengers.

No. Not them.

Like, thanks for posting that "awesome ass-picture."

There's another direction they can go with Thor, but it's not as smooth of a fit with Branagh's pedigree.

In the Ultimate U, Thor was basically thought to be an escaped mental patient with a belt and hammer that gave him powers. Turns out he really is the Thunder God, but the question hung around the book for quite a while.

Straczynski (http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/09/30/j-michael-straczynski-happy-with-kenneth-branagh-for-thor/)is happy with this choice.

I like how that nerdy dude was able to pick up Mjolnir.

I also prefer Ultimate Thor over Classic Thor, hopefully Marvel will at least try to do a mix-mash of the look. It definately looks like they're at least going for a class thor character:

Thor, written by Mark Protosevich, follows disabled medical student Donald Blake, who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor.

I'm VERY curious to see how Branagh does the flick, he's never really done anything action-oriented before but has made some amazing films. Though of course, the same could be said of Christopher Nolan prior to Batman Begins.

Getting good action is easy, getting good everything else is HARD.

Brett Ratner would disagree with you.

Naw, even a Brett Ratner action scene isn't that bad. Stupid in most cases but not bad. I have to say Chris Nolan could use some help. Shaky cam is just a damn shame.
