The former governor, who is also a pundit on Fox News, called Portman's pregnancy "troubling" and suggested it might "glorify and glamorize" the idea of having children outside of marriage. He argued that most single mothers aren't in the same position as Portman in terms of her lifestyle and resources.
"Natalie is an extraordinary actor, very deserving of her recent Oscar and I am glad she will marry her baby's father," Huckabee said. "My comments were about the statistical reality that most single moms are very poor, under-educated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death. That's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that society often glorifies and glamorizes the idea of having children out of wedlock."

First we get the Kenya comment and now hes going Murphy Brown.

How long before he misspells potato?

And I'm reasonably sure Portman's kid will be okay, Mike. Last I heard she wasn't living on the street.

Edit: And who the fuck is "glorifying and glamorizing" having children out of wedlock? Maybe Mike gets different tv stations on his planet.

I understand what he is saying, it just happens to be retarded; this is not out-of-character for him.

To be fair, at least Portman's a real person. He's doing better than Quayle.

Don't get me started on this clown. I've had to deal with him longer than you have.

This is actually much weirder than Quayle. Murphy Brown involved a woman making a premeditated decision to have a child alone, and it did sort of seem to suggest this was an admirable assertion of her independence (by my 20-year-old recollection, I could be misremembering something). Portman is planning to marry her child's father and has no intention of raising the child alone; moreover, nobody's suggesting she or the child would be better off without the father in their lives.

At least Quayle, ridiculous as it was for him to get into a fight with a fictional character, was making a coherent critique of the show. This is just bizarre. What was Portman to do? Even abstinence isn't 100% effective at preventing childbirth.

EDIT: Actually, that's not enough. Calling a real woman's real pregnancy "troubling"? Because you don't like the message it sends? If I were not writing this directly underneath a portrait of the Virgin Mary I would tell Huckabee what he could do to himself.

Dammit, Huck. Don't flame out early. I've got you picked in the Republican Nominee poll. Hold back the crazy until the general election!

All other points aside, he never says this child will struggle financially. In fact, he clearly says the opposite.

Simple answer is. Huck has a new book to pimp. He pulls this crap every time he has a new one out. He's like the male version of Sarah Palin.

step 1. Say something outrageous or stupid
step 2. Get headlines and name recognition
step 3. Profit.

I have noticed a trend of 'single mother' movies though. There are two recent ones with Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez that come to mind. It's weird, but I don't see how it's really a 'glorification' of it.

I had my first kid out of wedlock. People like me, and the gays, are ruining this country.

Social conservatives are the worst kind. They preach all high and mighty then they get caught jacking off a dude in a public toilet or sleeping with a hooker and snorting coke. I just don't understand sometimes.

My honest opinion: They're just fucking stupid and evil, period. I know plenty in real life (I live in Kentucky, after all), and they're all drug addicts, sluts, thieves and other nefarious shit. They love to talk about how everyone is ruining the country (especially gay people, blacks, Mexicans... etc) while they live on welfare checks and blow tax money on drugs instead of supporting their children. I have nothing but contempt for the whole lot of them.

Obviously I can't know how the entire population of social conservatives live... but the ones I know do not reflect well on them, nor do their public figures.
