View Full Version : The Next Presidential Puppy Dog!

If you were watching Obama's acceptance speech, you would have heard him say this to his daughters:
Sasha and Malia, I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House!
So... what puppy do you think he should get, and why? Also, vids and pictures of said puppies would be nice.
Personally, I'm all for a French Bulldog. Anyone who's ever owned a Bullie can attest to how awesome they are. :D

I'd go with the retriever for personality but really the mixed breed would be the best symbolically. Also if he made a deal of going to a local shelter and getting a puppy I think it would set a great example for America, people need to take shelter mutts, they need homes so much more than the purebreds out there.

Of course, as a Hawaiian, he may go with a Pit Bull.
As a side note, I am so glad he is taking a dog to the White House instead of a cat. Cats are morons. I'm not big on the LOLCAT pictures, but the one thing I do appreciate about them is the idiotic spelling and grammar speech that they are captioned with which I believe accurately relflects their feline intellect. :)

Which is exactly what we don't need if we are to start repairing our relations around the world.
All we need is for President Obama to be dining with some Hindu Indian diplomatic dignitary and his cat jumping up on the table asking "I CAN HAZ CHEEZBURGER?"

Pound puppies are way cheaper, and they'll appreciate you saving your life.

As much as I agree with the sentiment (our first 2 dogs were shelter pups), it is not always feasible. With a changing household, such as adding elderly adults or small children, something you need to know the temperament you are getting. A pound puppy can sometimes be a pandora's box in that regard.
But if going with a breeder, it is extremely important to pick a reputable breeder and self-investigate their operations. There should be no support for puppy mills, which often supply pups to the major chain stores.

You have several opportunities to interact with the dog during the adoption process to ensure the dog's temperment fits with yours and your family's. Rather than the random chance that comes from a puppy purchase - you know what your dog's personality will be. The rescue operation also has a stake in being sure that you and the dog are a good fit. So forget the sacrifice option. Choose love, choose the dog. :D

A reputable breeder will also allow numerous interactions, as we found with our most recent pup. I'm thinking more of adoptions from the Humane Society, where the adoption decision must be made quickly -- if not, another family will adopt the dog, or it will be put down.
Rescue operations are fantastic, if they work for your family. But I would vehemently argue against he notion that good dog breeders are by definition "evil."

I'm with you. I'm just so happy with our Saint that I can't help but advocate for rescue. I think we both agree that as long as the potential owner takes the time to really think about what they're doing and not just buy a cute puppy based on a whim, both the dog and the owner will be much, much happier.

You know, the left has shown almost nothing but pure venom for Palin, whether it is for being a woman who “stole Obama’s thunder” or because they felt she was woefully underprepared for the job. So, yeah, my brushstrokes may be broad, but, with attacks coming from every quarter, I think they are far from being unjustified. And frankly, I don’t care if anyone’s offended by that. I just spent an overly-long and exhausting election cycle hearing about how the GOP is racist, and how every word from our mouths – right down to the term “socialist” – is somehow a code word for black. But, you know what, the election is over now and their guy won, so congratulations, but fuck those goddamned eggshells!

Oh man, wolfhounds are awesome. I have a friend who had one of those and when you look at it, you almost feel like it's a bad special effect, like no dog could logically be that big. It was great because she also had an italian greyhound and it would recline on the wolfhound like it was a massive couch.

Most of the stories I saw were in the vein of comedy. Some tried to be serious since the dude needed bandages or whatever, but its like a 2 pound dog bite. I thought it was funny as a hell.

How about an Irish Wolfhound?
When I was nine years old and on my first soccer team ever, the first team we played was called the Irish Wolfhounds. We wondered what the hell an Irish Wolfhound was until they showed up with theirs, and proceeded to decimate us.
It was like a Disney sports movie, except we lost every game we played and it probably gave all of us a condition. They made me play goalie, and it was then that I knew fear.

I'm with Magnome. It should be adopted from a shelter as he said.
Obama's youngest daughter is also hyopalergenic, so it has to be a breed that doesn't call allergic reactions (such as a poodle). So a alpoalergenic mutt from the local shelter sounds right.
Mutts are more awesome anyway. The less you can tell what kind of dog they primarily are, the more awesome and unique they are. They are generally far more healthy and energetic than purebreds.
