I just finished Moby Dick. I have the Count of Monte Cristo on my list next, but that bitch is HUGE.
There is plenty of good phallic imagery in those two sentences.

I just finished reading Shogun by James Clavell and am now moving into The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.
Hap if you haven't read any of the other Gunslinger novels get on that. I can say without a doubt it was my favorite series of all time.

Just finished Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Great book that's a little long in the tooth when delivering it's message, but that's fine.
Usually, I like to take a break and read a little fluff between big books, but I moved right onto Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth...which reminds me a lot of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle (another excellent series of books).
Probably going to move onto Neal Stephenson's Anathem after this one.

The Count of Monte Cristo is a fantastic book. The new movie isn't half bad either, though you should treat yourself to the original movie based on the book (40's ish). If you like to read these, you owe it to yourself to read Les Miserables as well (if you haven't already) :)

I actually just finished The Time Travelers Wife (http://www.amazon.com/Time-Travelers-Wife-Audrey-Niffenegger/dp/015602943X/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222887996&sr=8-1). It was one of the books from the old EvAv book club (http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/2097.Evil_Avatar).
I too am thinking about reading Anathem next, but that will depend on free time and spare cash.

Only worry about Anathem I have is this comic (http://xkcd.com/483/)
Alt text: Except for anything by Lewis Carroll or Tolkien, you get five made-up words per story. I'm looking at you, Anathem.

Great place to work. Hold off on the buying of books though. 30% discount is so nice to take advantage of. You also apparently get 40% off TV series.

ohsnap maybe I will hold off if I'm lucky enough to get a job there.

I'm beating my head against Wuthering Heights right now. I finished a Warhammer book last week and was looking through the book shelves trying to find something else to read; Found the copy of WH that my daughter had read in High School last year.
Kill me now!
But I can't NOT finish it. It's a character flaw that I have when it comes to books.

I have to complete everything I start or else it never leaves me mind. It might be a good thing, but it drives me nuts when my mind is starting to tell me "Walk away".

I recently finished Halting State by Charles Stross. Not his best, (I really liked Accelerando), but a good book.
We need to start a new book group for CoG.
Finished reading House of Leaves a bit ago and am still looking for something to read.

Finished Dresden's book 10 and recently finished the first book in the Malazan book of the Fallen series. It's very good and I'm going to continue reading the series. Politics, sword fighting, magic, dragons, Flying fortresses, Gods fighting it out, what more could you want?

I just finished The Sword in the Stone, first book in The Once and Future King. Before that it was War of the Worlds, and American Gods.
I put down the King Arthur and picked up Stardust. I read mostly on my lunch break, and its Bite Sized, 2-3 page, chapters make it a perfect book for people who can only read in half hour spurts.
I also recently picked up Artemis Fowl the Time Paradox and it is fantastic. Anyone who is a fan of Harry Potter or His Dark Materials should check it out.
I think that we need to institute a book of the month. Or at least, I will on my site, to discuss in these forums.

Not much reading going on recently, unfortunately.

I just finished The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. On Thursday I finished Bleak House by Dickens (then had a nice test on it the next day). I can tell you that it was a great relief to read The Remains of the Day, as it took me about eight hours, compared to the four weeks I just spent trudging through Bleak House.

I just finished reading Summer Knight, the fourth book in The Dresden Files series.
I shouldn't be nearly as entertained by them as I am.I listened to the first audio book this summer while mowing the lawn. I started listening to the second book, but man, it was soooo repetitive! I gave up after just a few chapters.
Do the later books continue to rehash old stuff? Or are they equally repetitive?

The first chapter or two is always kind of a rehash of what happened. With the books coming out maybe twice a year at most I guess you might not remember the last one when the new one comes around.

I'm in the middle of Gaiman's American Gods and King's Everything's Eventual. Also, I'm in the middle of reading both The Walking Dead and Preacher, when it comes to comics.
I just finished Salinger's Catcher In The Rye. I can't believe it took me 'til I was 26 to finally read that damn book. SO good.

Last read Song of Kali by Simmons. The Terror by Simmons before that.
I recently started playing play-by-post D&D and it made me dig out my old Dragonlance books. I'm currently reading Dragons of Autumn Twilight.
I read the first Dresdan book and it was great fun. I'll have to continue that series someday.

Fuck that book with a hot poker. I had to read that for a class and it was like pulling teeth. Never again.
psuedo: American Gods is another one of my favorite books. It is easily my favorite Gaiman book. Also, how did it take you this long to read a classic like Catcher? Were you drunk?
iHap: I can't wait for you to read more of the tower stuff. Hurry up and finish reading the gunslinger novels, then read Talisman, then Black House, then Hearts in Atlantis....then....wait no. Ok, so go read up to Wizard and Glass (my favorite out of the series...very old west romance style), then read Hearts, Talisman and Black House. Then you can finish the tower novels. After you digest all that check out Desperation and Insomnia...and then if you haven't read The Stand...read that. That whole fucking universe is awesome!!!

Hmm, the last book I finished was Red Dragon. I got it as a gift years ago and never even bothered to look at it until recently. Before that...I can't even remember what it was. O.o
But, I've been busy writing one. Does that count for anything? Partial credit?

I just finished the novel for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Enjoyed it more than I have the game so far really.
For my plane ride and trip I'm on ATM I picked up Swordmage: Blade of the Moonsea, Book I (http://www.amazon.com/Swordmage-Blade-Moonsea-Book-Blades/dp/0786947888/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223035154&sr=8-2) and have enjoyed it so far. Then again I'm only just starting the book so I'll have to get more into it before I can really say what I think.

I just finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, and I loved it. It is definitely written more in the style of the books he aims at younger audiences, but it was amazing and an interesting take on the themes of The Jungle Book.

I just finished The Silver Spike in a collection of Glen Cook's Black Company novels. It was a spin-off that I wasn't too excited about, but I really like Cook's style and characters and ended up loving this. Can't wait to pick up the next book in the series, although I'll probably read something else in between.

I hadn't heard anything about Gaiman's new novel, so this is good news. I really liked American Gods and Anansi Boys, as well as The Jungle Book, so I can't wait to pick this one up.

I JUST finished Wuthering Heights! My appreciation of the constitution of the poncy English just dropped about 417 points.
"Oh my! I've caught a cold! I must away to bed for the next 8 weeks and never regain my vitality!"
They all deserved to die!
I am now starting a book of short stories by Richard Matheson. It includes The Incredible Shrinking Man; basis for one of the first 1950's great sci-fi movies. Nightmare at 20,000 Feet; the basis for the great William Shatner Twilight Zone episode and Duel; the basis for Spielberg's directorial debut. Looks like a good couple of days ahead!

I picked up Shadow of the Torturer a while back and have been trying to make my way through that. This will be the second attempt, but I'm already loosing interest again. It is in no way a bad book, but for some reason it just doesn't hold my attention. I honestly have no idea what to pick up next. I may just hit up the library and see what catches my eye.

I think the last new book I read all the way through was The Man Who Was Thursday by Gilbert Kieth Chesterton. I found out about the guy because he made a cameo as a character in Gaiman's Sandman, and he is just one of the funniest authors I've ever read. The man has a ton to say.
The book is all about how anarchy and chaos are futile ends to strive for. It was also a pretty interesting mystery story with a religious twist.

I also just finished Dresden #10 (Small Favor?), and even though I've been making fun of them non-stop the whole time, I'm kind of depressed that I don't have any more.
Small Favor was probably my least favorite of the lot. Possible Spoilers: The plot was kind of random, and since Dresden is constantly in the dark, confused and in the process of being double-crossed, it also meant that I had no clue what was going on or why. By the end, I was still scratching my head wondering why the Sidhe courts gave a damn. Oh well.
For lack of anything else to read, I just started The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett. It's kinda funny, though not always intentionally so.

I just finished The Triumph of The Sun by Wilbur Smith and I loved it. I don't read much historical fiction, but I'll be changing that promptly now. I'm hooked. I plowed through the last 400 pages in a day and enjoyed it to the very end.
It's a fictional story about the seige of Khartoom, an Egyptian city run by an English General during the height of the English Empire. I don't want to spoil anything, but the story has a bit of everything. Action, love stories, sex, gore, tons of drama, a bit of espionage, twins, war...did i mention gore? If even features a little used form of execution known as the "Kiss of the gunner's daughter", which features being strapped to the buisness end of a cannon. Fun times. The real value in the book, though, is it's insight into the culture of Arab muslims and their feelings toward's their Western enemies. Highly recommended if your curious.
Next, I'll be finishing up a collection of HP Lovecraft i've been working on for a few weeks now.
