The new YDKJ game released yesterday, for PC/360/PS3/Wii. Has anyone played it yet?

I've been a huge YDKJ fan since the first releases. I've played all entries in the main series, plus a couple of the side ones (Movies, TV, etc). I still fire up The Road occasionally, definitely my favorite, and play a few episodes. I even watched the Paul Reubens hosted television show for the short time it was on.

I'm undecided which platform to get it for. The $20 price tag for the PC version is very appealing ($30 for the other versions), plus I could easily bring it to my gf's place. It might be more fun and look betting using the TV and my 360.

If a number of fellow CoGs are planning to get it for one platform or another and plan to play online that could sway my decision.

I've heard but don't have a link to confirm that the PC version is local MP only, and not online.

EDIT: Confirmed. 2 player local only: Steam Forums (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1750876)

Ugh. Lame. I was worried about that.

Only TWO player local? That's disappointing. It's unfortunate when a PC-centric series gets downgraded for a sequel. 5th Dementia, the last big PC YDKJ had 3-player local (like every other entry in the series), and online multiplayer.

I guess it'll be 360 for me or nothing.

Played a bunch of rounds last night with Drayven and Ghostbear, it's freaking awesome.

The game is still hilarious. The trademark humor is there in spades, Jellyvision hasn't lost their touch. They may have been on hiatus for nearly a decade, but it sure doesn't show. The Dis or Dats, Screws, Jack Attacks and fake commercials are all still there, and just as cleverly written as they've ever been. There's some new question types, but the coolest new feature is the 'Wrong Question of the Game'. Each episode has a sponsor, and one of the questions in the episode has a wrong answer that's thematically tied to that sponsor, buzzing in with that answer gives you a big bonus, more money than the correct answer is worth.

There's also a cool feature that autoselects episodes for you, so if you've got three people who have all played different episodes, the game will automatically pick one that none of you have played, so you don't have to worry about repeating questions.

The thing that has me the most excited is that the DLC model is fantastic. The concern with a trivia game like this is that there's a finite amount of content, and once you're done, you're done. There's already 10 new episodes up for sale, for $5. 50 cents per episode is a pretty fair deal. I will buy as many episodes as they put out at that price.

I never played the original YDKJ games but had a blast last night playing. At one point there was a Dis or Dat where we had to pick if it was the name of a ranch dressing manufacturer or a Nevada brothel. If that isn't enough to sell the game I don't know what is.

I loved this game back in the day. I still have my discs for YDKJ:Sports and Movies. I did not realize it was already out, I'm definitely going to have to pick this up. Does anyone know if it works with the Scene It buzzers on 360?

Edit: Googling found my answer, that yes they do work, and work very well.

I've tried it with both regular controllers and the Big Button controllers. The game sense which ones you are using and rearranges everything to match. When you use regular controllers the answers are laid out in a diamond to correspond to the buttons, but using the Big Button controllers puts the answers in a list in the same order as the buttons on the controller. All of the other instructions and inputs also change depending on what you use also.

Yeah, I'll be buying this on 360. I've watched some clips now of it in play and it's every bit as good as the classics. I played the shit out of the one on PS1.

It's a shame about the PC version though. $10 cheaper is not enough to make up for no gamepad, no online, only 2 players, and probably no DLC either.

The game being $30 would take some of the sting out of re-upping a subscription.

Thanks for reminding me this game was out! I braved the slick and snowy roads today just to get this, and boy am I glad I did. YDKJ was one of my all time fav PC games, and this game lives up to those games. At $30, this game is a bargain for how much fun you have!

Oh BTW, thanks for the invite Guboo! I had a blast, even if I did play on the stupid side of things... probably because I am dumb. :D

Oh and sorry for not talking. I don't have a headset right now and my Kinect mic was turned off. I will fix this problem by either buying a headset or turning on the mic before my next session. Oh, and I will be on this all weekend long! Which starts Friday because I took the day off.

They must not have known what they had. Because nostalgia factor alone would make YDKJ sell well, even if it wasn't that great. But add in the low price and the fact that the game is as good maybe better than the previous titles? Yeah, that's a recipe for a hit right there.

On a side note, I am SO happy they brought YDKJ back. I was absoloutely in love with these games back in the 90's.

After playing a little YDKJ last night with my roommate I like the new twist to DisOrDat. Unlike the online version and like the previous versions, only one person plays, but the other player (possibly players?) can still get points. If the other players buzz in with the correct answer before the active player answers, and the active player answered wrong, the others get points. If both get it right only the active player gets points.

J Arcane
02-10-2011, 10:35 AM
Thing that I noticed was, they didn't promote it at all. If I'd known there was a brand new YDKJ game coming out with Cookie Masterson himself still on board for the voices, I probably would've pre-ordered the damn thing.

But they didn't even seem to bother telling anyone about it until the day it released.

I really hope THQ notices the demand and positive reviews and realizes they have a powerful franchise on their hands. Not just another sub-par casual game that unknowing consumers pick up, but a well-produced, well-written party game that can be a real moneymaker. They need to start putting some marketing money behind this title, especially outside the hardcore gaming sphere.

It's almost shocking that it released at $30 on consoles. How many other disc-based games release on that price for the 360 or PS3?

Spread the word! Make your family and friends play and encourage gamers you know that never played the original titles how great it is. I will gladly continue buying more YDKJ games and DLC if they keep up the quality they put into this title. Maybe we'll even see side-titles like Movies/Sports/Television, perhaps even a Video Game specific chapter.

Scene It! is the current heavyweight for digital trivia games, but I think YDKJ can target the same fanbase, provided they have one of the three consoles hooked up to their TV, and more and more people fall into that category.

Judging from the achievements, it looks like they already have 3 pieces of DLC already in the can. When I downloaded the first one yesterday, there were achievements for the 2nd and 3rd DLC packs too. So, that's an additional 300 trivia questions, pushing the amount to around 1000. Also, I really think that $5 per 100 question pack is the sweet spot as far as pricing goes. I'll totally pick every one of them up.

Don't forget the Jack Attack. That makes each episode 11 questions/games.

I was thinking yesterday that I'd love to actually meet Cookie. He's always been my favorite of the hosts. Also, I think it would be funny to get a picture taken alongside the original photo model used for the top of the head on the old titles. Of course, I'd want the photo taken so everything but the tops of our heads is cut off.

This game has alot more charm than trivial pursuit. It's not always about who has the most useless knowledge, quite often it's about being able to unravel the question to find what they are actually asking. it's not because the questions are poorly written, it's because they're written very well.

Quiz games are all well and good, but couldn't a person get the same experience with trivial pursuit?

I think, in many cases, it's tougher than Trivial Pursuit for the reason Drayven highlights. Many times, the answer can be relatively simple, but you miss it because you're trying to wrap your head around the pop-culture filter it pushed the question through.

It's really clever.

Ink Asylum
02-11-2011, 01:54 PM
Exactly. Although sometimes the pop-culture or high-culture side of the question is just a funny coating meant to distract you, it often means you have to know two completely different facts to find the right answer. For instance, one question I got essentially asked what famous movie kiss would resemble someone kissing the Blarney Stone (although in a much more roundabout way). To get the answer right you need to not only know that you kiss the Blarney Stone while upside down but also know that Spider-Man has a famous upside-down kiss.

Bringing this thread back up because I just got the game. Amazon had a Lighting Deal and I got it for a song ($15), then immediately bought the DLC. My wife likes playing with me, and the game is downright amazingly produced.

For those that don't know, the demo is completely unique (which shocked and really impressed me), so if you want to play through two extra episodes, download it.

Edit: Quick Draw McDumbass is probably one of the best Achievement names ever.

Hmmm, just bought this game today, but on PC. Maybe should have read this thread first. Only 2-player MP? That's insane. I could live with only local, but give at least 4 players.

Yeah, the PC version isn't that great because of that. The 360 version has 4 player Live support. It's great. :)
