Picked this up yesterday and am enjoying it so far. Once again, I've had to readjust to the control scheme, which is different from most FPS games, but I'll get used to it.

I love how they drop you into the 'tutorial' level with massive spectacle!

Post your impressions and discuss the game here. Remember to either post no spoilers or use the spoiler tags to hide your comments.

I'm really enjoying it so far, though I wish they would have kept the narrator. I'm a sucker for more story, so I'm enjoying finding all the little intel documents. I just finished up the Orick level last night and made it a bit into the next level. I really like how you can use the alt fire for the Bullseye now to setup a sort of distraction for the enemies, especially the invisible ones. That actually really helps.

They really nailed the invasion look, at least in Orick. It's kinda creepy, but very cool. Also, I think Henry Stillman is just a tad bit nuts. Either that, or he was drunk in the last broadcast I heard. Of course, I'd be one or the other two if the same thing was going on, probably, especially with some of the stuff he's said.

I'm playing on Normal, which I'm finding to be just a bit easy. For reference, I played through the original on Normal, Hard, and got half way through the game on Superhuman (I just never got around to finishing). Maybe it's just the difficulty setting, but there are some stretches in a couple of areas so far where it seems there should be enemies, but there's nothing. Maybe they're added on the higher difficulty settings. I hope.

I'm playing on Normal as well, Gorvi. And while I'm only on the second level, I agree that there are times when it feels a bit empty in some corridors. It's likely difficulty, but we'll see as I progress further.

I've been playing on Easy, just for a first run through and i must say that everywhere does feel quite fleshed out. I can't recall an area being empty. Maybe i'm just rushing through too fast.

Got my copy next to me. I'll be starting on Hard the first run through and I'm wondering if we plan on getting a clan going. Gonna need some help on the co-op stuff.

Only played a bit of the single player. Played a bit of skirmish and I enjoyed having 59 other folks on a map with little to no lag.

Co-op is just insane. I didn't play the beta but overall I love it so far. Joined a small group, but would love to join a CoG group. Looked it up last night and CoG is taken by another group already for the tag.

Yeah, I'd love to set something up for co-op. Maybe a once of twice a week thing if we can get everyone's schedules in line. I haven't tried it since I got the game but I loved it in the beta.

Coop is great, I loved it in the beta and with the stat changes it is much better. I'll be on later tonight as well if anyone is interested in coop.

I'm just curious, does the game look better in person? Every time I see videos, the textures look... fuzzy. Maybe it's just the way they're captured or something.

My CE arrived from Amazon today (the Chimera figure is totally awesome. He's going on the desk next to Big Daddy and Pipboy.) I'll be playing the single player campaign first, maybe starting tonight.

So my brother and I played co-op through the campaign of R1 when it was released and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had been planning to do the same with this one but it appears there isn't a co-op game through the campaign. Is that right? We only saw the regular co-op game through the randomized stages.

Bleh. Kinda lame. We tried three or four times playing through the co-op with just the two of us but it was just too difficult. We'd run into the problem of either running out of ammo or dying, depending on what classes we chose. Maybe we just weren't playing conservatively enough. Or maybe we just suck. Either way, we were both disappointed by the lack of a co-op campaign that was essentially the single player with two people.

Still, what I played of the single player campaign by myself I enjoyed.

To be as spoiler free as possible: I just made it to Chicago but had to stop before really doing anything. I did get a chance to pick up a Splicer, though, and that weapon is just fun. I know I've used it before in another game, I'm 99% sure it's from one of the Ratchet games.

The story really picks up in the Canyon level (right after Twin Falls, right before Chicago, level 4 I think). I'm very interested to see where things go from here, that's for sure. I can really see why there was no campaign co-op included in the game, it simply wouldn't make any sense as the game is very much focused on Hale.

The game does have it's flaws, weapons seem to be placed right where they intend you to use them and the real time lighting is non-existent. Not a huge problem but it's pretty noticeable in this day and age of graphics.

So far I'm having a lot of fun with the game and I know I'll be going back through again. Reading all the intel really helps flesh out the world quite a bit, giving a bit more insight into what exactly is going on. It's not necessary to go through and read them, but if you want things explained more, they're a good read.

And Chicago kicks ass. I'm not done yet, but now I'm stuck going to a wedding instead of gaming. :(

I finished it a few hours ago and I thought it was great. It has it's flaws but the good greatly outweighs the bad. Can't wait for the next one. Until then, online co-op.

Really? Playing the first Resistance with my buddy split-screen was one of my most memorable times playing PS3. :(

I realize people want more online co-op...but getting rid of same-system play is a retarded idea. Can you not just do both? Almost all of my co-op experiences involve people in the same room.

There isn't an option for two player co-op, which was the entire reason why i bought it today, because a buddy and i were gonna cut our way through it.

About 10-12 hours probably. I've put in a little over 10 I think and I'm at the beginning of what I assume is the last chapter.

i've been mostly playing the multiplayer.

mostly team death match. i went on the ranked servers and specified 'big' for player count, and got a 40 player server - so 20 per side. ok fine.

so i'm running around with my squad and damned if we can find anyone lol. i got like 6 kills and 3 deaths in one round, which isnt a bad KD ratio, but really, i only ran into enemy players 9 times? counting assists and such it was realistically 15, but still... ouch. occasionally i felt like i was playing wii fit, just running around in a circle doing nothing.

when Track was over last week we popped onto one of the 60 player non-ranked servers, it was a lot better. hopefully i can find some ranked 60 player servers next time.

if i even touch it after CoD5 and L4D are out lol

I think the big multiplayer games would be great if it weren't for the fact that the matchmaking starts the game with not enough people. Anybody else have this experience? It's like 9 per side out of 30 when the match starts.

Nope. It had a tough part or too, but for the most part it was rather easy. I actually want to go back and play it on hard sometime.

I don't know how you can say this game is easy (overall). I've died probably close to 100 times (on Normal difficulty) and I'm just arriving in Chicago. I hate how the enemies know exactly where you are at any given point. I hate the no health meter heart beat. I hate this game right now.

I still haven't got a chance to play R2 (my friend has a PS3, I don't) but I could have swore the enemies in R1 did the same thing. That level in the subway was hair-pullingly difficult because we'd get mowed down the instant we came into a room. If they didn't know we were already there, it sure as hell didn't show.

It's not the fact that they know exactly where I am that's more frustrating, it's that despite having many allies around me, they somehow only shoot me rather than the AI.

Yes R1 did act the same. But I guess I don't remember it being as bad. Especially when you are playing against the enemies that shoot the gun that goes through EVERY OBJECT... And then when I get hurt, and I can hear my heart beat, my team tells me to "take cover". Well how am I supposed to to that guys when these fuckers have guns with ammo that shoots forever through things?....

This is the second most disappointing aspect of the game. Your allies are USELESS! R1 mostly took place with Hale by himself. In R2, you actually fight next to your squad during most of the game. Zombies will literally run past the first man on point, and run all the way to hale. And even if the zombies get past a certain point, your allies will not help you at all. So if you're reloading, and there's three or four zombies clawing at you. Your team will just sit there since, hey, they killed their share of zombies... The AI is god awful.

I don't know where you're getting so stuck, Duke. I'm no big FPS player or anything but the game felt almost too easy to me. I think the only part that I remember dying on more than a couple of times was a battle over a large bridge in Chicago (you had multiple waves of enemies).

The AI seemed to be hit or miss. There were some instances where they didn't seem to be doing jack shit but others where they actually did help out. So far as the enemies targeting only you, it was the same way. Sometimes they seemed to, other times they didn't. I noticed mostly that when you were in a group they only really started targeting you when you actually shot them specifically.

My only real problem with the game was the boss fights. They were far, far too easy and they were over way too quick. Hell, the last boss that you get to before the final boss (the last one you get a trophy for anyway) just takes 4 LARP rockets to the face and dies. That's it. Hopefully playing through on hard adds more challenge to the fights, but with stuff like the Leviathan I can't see that happening.

Overall the game felt great, but really, it was just too easy on the default difficulty with the exception of a few choke points in a few levels. I'm really looking forward to getting in some coop soon, though, that I think is what's really going to keep me playing.

I really want to see you play through. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm getting killed in the stupidest fuckin areas.... like the one time in Chicago where you have to jump into the water... and not get eaten by that fucking fish thing... but there's fuckers shooting at you from a ledge, but you can't shoot them because you're in the water.. so you have to hide behind rubble, swim to the next rubble, jump up on a platform and then shoot the ass holes... stupid stupid shit like this is making this game miserable for me...

As cool as the x-ray gun or whatever was, fuck that thing. I rarely used it but the enemies using it pissed me off. I can agree on that one. If i remember right, I think that's exactly why we had so much trouble with the subway. You would be running along, getting ready for the next roomful of baddies and *ZZZT*...what the fuck just took off half my li*ZZZT*...dead. Weeeee. :D

Well since it happens throughout the entire game, i would say its pretty accurate.

Duke, I think I know what your problem is. I looked at your trophies just for shits and giggles and it doesn't look like you have most of them that you should by that point, most of which are for kills with different weapons' secondary fire functions. If you're not using the secondary fire, yeah, I can see where things would be damn hard.

Take the Bullseye, for example. It's a decent weapon up close, but at a longer range the accuracy is shit and it's really only good for taking out drones. But, if you start using the secondary fire, the target lock bullseye, it becomes pretty useful (you find ammo for that all over the place). At the point you're at, in Chicago, you should have already had the trophy for the number of kills you'd get with that, since it's only 50.

Also, try using the Magnum. The primary fire isn't the best in the world, but the secondary fire makes that gun kick some serious ass. If you see a group of enemies, shoot one Chimera in the group in the chest with it (so as not to get a one hit kill) then set it off with the secondary fire and you can take out multiple enemies. Heck, you can even do some major damage to the Goliaths that way.

If that's not it, I'm not sure what your problem is. It's all about using the weapons you have to your best advantage. They almost go out of their way to put the weapons you should use right in your path right before you'll need them, it's not tough. And seriously, use the Auger. It's there, it's a great weapon, and really, I don't see how you'll be able to get through the last level without it.

Dukefrukem
11-11-2008, 09:35 AM
I thought I was using them pretty well...but I'll pay more attention to the secondary fire options. I just die so easily... and there's no way to tell when I'm going to die because there are so many different levels of your heart beating... But you're right, I was looking at my trophies too and I def. should have 150 kills with the carbine by now...

I need to get in some co-op with everyone. Tonight would be good, since I finally finished the campaign last night. Heck, I may even just jump into some random coop games. Is there one class that seems to be played less in general than the others that would be good to focus on?

i've only been playing pugs and am really craving getting a good team together. my only plan tonight was to get rid of the basement's wroth of recycling in my store, but forgetting that today was remembrance day and the centre is closed has left me with a blank slate for this evening. I think even the mrs. has dance rehearsal till late.

Surprisingly the solider seems to be the class least played in the games i have joined in on. I've always enjoyed playing the medic in most games, but i find myself playing the solider just to defend my team.

Lets see if we can't round a good group up. I believe i'm a level 4 medic and level 4 solider and am more than happy to play either.
