Looks like Sony is holding a press event in Japan tomorrow. From all likelihood the PSP2 will be announced. It's important enough of an event that Eurogamer is actually flying someone over there to cover it which they wouldn't do if it was something small. We'll see.

This is kinda old news. :p

The announcement should be around 1 AM EST tonight, I'll read the reports in the morning.

It's old news about the conference but new news that the press is taking it seriously.

Well, not really. Ever since the rumor first started circulating a few weeks ago that the PSP2 was going to be announced at an event at the end of January a number of outlets (1UP for example) have stated that they've received invites for it and are sending people to report on it. Of course, that doesn't confirm anything, this may just be them reiterating their lineup for the year, nobody knows. Either way, it's less than 12 hours away.

It costs way too much to send someone over there for someone as simple as them restating their line up. If they are paying (or Sony is paying) to fly international press over there... it's going to be for a very good reason.

We already know a lot about it like the two touch screens, two cameras, dual analog and the such. What I want to know is price and if it will be DD only or not.

Those are the two things I'm most concerned about. DD only would be a mistake, in my opinion, if they hope to make it an even remotely mass market device. Price is the other roadblock, if it's over $300 they're digging their own grave. Even $250 would be a challenge, launching a good 9 months after the 3DS.

I'm hoping there's a solid lineup of original games, Sony first party has been incredibly quiet on the PSP recently. Outside of SOCOM FTB 3, ModNation, and God of War they didn't do a whole lot on the PSP last year.

Well, God of War wasn't really a first party. It was that company who said they were through with the PSP development and sending their kits back... I forget the name off the top of my head. But yeah, Sony's studios haven't really been hitting the PSP. I hadn't thought about it.

DD would be a huge mistake. Let's hope they learned their lesson from the Go and make them run on mem sticks. Obviously some publishers and developers don't like the DD only route when looking at Kingdom Hearts.

But remember, the PSP launched at the equivalent of $185 dollars and it's only dropped down by like $20 or $30 since it's release. In the US and EUR users got screwed with the "Value Pack" which added no value and was just a way to bloat the price of the system. They could do the same here. Release a unit only price that they make a tiny fraction of, then a "Value Pack" that they charge more for.

They did this with both the PSP and PS3 so hopefully they don't do it with the PSP2.

This thread should probably be moved to the Handheld forum.
