So, I'm looking at upgrading a friend's rig from a GX285 to a AMD 6970 card, and I've never done a cross-manufacturer upgrade before, only nVidia->nVidia, which is fairly painless.

Does anyone have some tips or a procedure I should follow, or is it as simple as uninstall nVidia drivers, shut down, swap hardware, boot, install AMD drivers?

thats pretty much it, you may want to run something like Driver Sweeper to remove the last traces of the nvida drivers before installing amd's

You can just swap 'em out. I do it all the time.

I think you nailed it. Now that I think about it, things have gotten pretty darn simple lately.

That's all I did and it runs fine
