(Disclaimer: I made a post about this before but I cannot find it at this point.)

I need a good but simple amp for my Infinity Monitor Speakers and my PC.

Someone recommended me this thing last time:

Which is pretty much perfect, except one thing: I would like to get Surround Sound going at some point and this only supports two speakers. Are there other similar options out there, that have surround sound support? Even 5.1 would be fine.

Reason for this is simple, I don't want to attach a giant amp with multiple inputs and outputs to my computer.

The only PC-oriented solution I've seen for this was a custom pack-in by AMD for testing machines some time ago - never released to the public. Sorry, I don't know of anything.

Maybe I should get a Car Amp (some of them support Dolby Digital) and screw it on to the right side of my computer case lol... Pimp My PC!

DC to AC converter baby!

It would probably be cheaper just to get a small 5.1 receiver.

Then you might as well just buy an AC amp. What's so special about a car amp?

What he said. ;)

The whole issue here is that it either needs to fit into my PC tower (like the Scythe amp I posted above) or on top of my PC tower. Space is limited.

And that's exactly what I'm asking for, a small 5.1 receiver / amp that I connect my Infinity's to.

You probably should have mentioned that in the first post.

Good luck finding a proper amplifier that will fit in a PC... especially 5 channels.

It's one thing to find a preamp that can fit in a PC...it's whole other thing to find a 5 channel amp.

Well, it can fit ON the PC too!

Eh, I guess I might as well go with the Scythe amp

Same difference...on or in you're still dealing with similar size limitations. Outside of headphone amps you don't see many solutions that small.

I just thought there'd be more support for the PC audio enthusiast aside from pre-bundled speaker packs.

There is...but the PC is used as the preamp.

I might be missing something here. When are you going to need to convert DC to AC in this scenario?

Cars amps use DC....a house provides AC.

Square peg....round hole...do the math :p

That only seems to be AC to DC. Which is a much simpler and cheaper prospect. If he has a car battery charger (that provides enough current) he could just use that.
