I was just wondering the net and came across a video (http://ovablastic.blogspot.com/2008/11/invisible-octopus.html) that really surprised me; in fact, my mind was blown.

GRSbC6HAgNE

I was just shocked by the level of mimicry! Anyone else have some mind blowing media?

*Update*
Reading through the blog comments I found the original source of the video and thought I should give credit where credit is due: David Gallo (http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/david_gallo_shows_underwater_astonishments.html). Plus there's a high-res version (http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/download/video/3859/talk/206) there.

Man... what nefarious deeds I would perpetrate with that kind of power. No woman's locker room would be safe. At least until they tried to turn the faucet on...

Well, then you could just throw ink at them and run away. :D

Wow. That's the most impressive natural camouflage I've ever seen.

Nature has some truly talented animals.

Such as the master of sound mimicry, the Lyre bird.

In comparison to the above post, he even sounds smarter. ;)

You know, I never noticed how he looks when he runs before.

Stumbled on these while looking at vids of ultra deep sea creatures.
It's like sci-fi, I love this stuff. I highly recommend part 2 for the depth charge shrimp.
Yeah, you heard me. :D

Of course, I would just watch all 5 parts.

These are crazy! Keep 'em coming.

Also, @Gormanimal: I noticed you on my XBL friends list and didn't recognize the name, did you used to be called something else?

OP is one of the many, many reasons the octopus is my favorite animal. I think my next tattoo will be an octopus of some sort.

Say you have one already and when people say "I can't see it," just nod knowingly.

I've been trying to find some great videos, but I'm having trouble. Long story short, cuttlefish are more awesome than octopuses.

P.S. That Deep Sea stuff is truly mindblowing. I remember when those creatures were new to science and not many of them had been seen yet.

Just like the Octocamo. I didn't know octopodes could really do it.

That was the best mind blow I've had in a while.

It was a ninja add, don't feel bad.

But really, it used to be Fozy. Something with account issues and I somehow had to change my id. Happened around the same time Evil Av. hit the fan so I figured I'd carry over the changes to CoG.

Yeah, when they do that hypnosis act on their prey! I also remember being really surprised when I read the white block in so many bird cages are cuttlefish bones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuttlebone). No idea where they get them all.

Isn't it theorized that Octopi are extremely smart and if it weren't for their short life span, they could have potentially been another animal that evolve into civilization as humans have?

Cephalopods in general.

Neat stuff. I love cuttlefish and cephalopods of all shapes and sizes.

My kid has been on a real deep sea kick of late, which is fine by me. He just saw the OP's video and had me go through half of the deep sea footage on Youtube... THANKS!
