The time has come to commandeer the old EASHL club. Hopefully we'll be able to get everyone on board that normally plays with the group. I'll be created the club tonight and will update this thread as necessary with new members. I've sent PMs to all of the people from EvAv that haven't found us yet in the hopes to get them on board.

I don't think we have an official night as of yet since it appears playtimes vary greatly with this group. I'll set up a couple co-GMs as necessary for additional invite power.

Lets get this together. I vote that pick a night that hopefully none of us have games to watch during the season that way we can all get as much time out of the game as possible that night. And we won't have to worry about missing anyone because of scheduling issues thanks to our separate teams.

Although, I know it'll be kind of hard that way since every team's schedule is a little different.

Yeah, hammering out a specific night that dodges NHL games will be impossible. The beauty of the EASHL club is that you only need a couple members to get a game running. I played quite a few matches with only Khrymsyn and it's just as much fun.

Usually Mon-Wed seem to be good nights for us. Most of the games I watch start between 9-10:30 PM, so on those nights I'll need some west coast guys to team up with. Otherwise, my usual 10PM-2PM EST timeslot is unnaffected.

And there will all ways be "Fill'em up Fridays" where I get too drunk to play, but still do. :D Much to the chagrin of my teammates.

Invites have been sent to: biosc1, Suave Peanut, Nameless, Haemorrhage, Dark Prince, and Deunnero. Both Troggles and Wolvie come up as invalid gamertags (according to NHL).

So you're aware, you'll have to leave the EvAv club before you'll be able to join the CoG club. It appears all player stats are permanent however...so much for being rid of my -6....

Too easy. So I won't.

I was on last night at 10:30 PM and no one was around. So I played some ranked OTP and got my hits per game (HPG) up to 21 (total now over 600 ... check it out!) :) I also got a few assists and my teams went 2-1 for the night!

Anyone of the steps to take to clear the cache? I couldn't figure it out last night and wanted to get it out of the way so I don't have any problems when the league starts.

Go to the System Blade, go to Memory, Press Y on the HDD then, X, X, LB, RB, X, X.

...or was it Up, Up, Down, Down, Left...no, nevermind.

Been playing BAP Goalie lately. Actually kinda like it, and kinda dislike it. I feel almost like you don't have enough control and that a lot gets done for you. *shrug*

That being said... Nosh, we had quite a good streak going on there. Hope we get to continue it soon =)

Well, they do have to take into account the stats of the goalie as well. I've let in shots that went right through my goalie even though I was in perfect position. Sometimes I drop down and close the five-hole, but I couldn't stop a pig if I wanted to :(

You can't play beyond the stats of the goalie.

So I just learned three interesting things about NHL 09 last night that have helped my game.

1.) When carrying the puck, the right bumper "Saucer Pass/Dump" button actually lets you charge up the power of the dump by holding the right bumper down before you use the right analog stick to direct it. This has helped a ton with clearing the puck in emergencies.

2.) When on defense, the right bumper "Poke Check" button is part of a new feature called 360 Stick Control or something. Again, hold down the right bumper, and use the right analog stick to sweep your stick back and forth along the ice. I'm learning how to use this to block passing lanes and sweep loose pucks to where I want them to go. I always missed not having this since I used to do it a lot when I played street hockey.

3.) The "Ice Vision" left trigger button apparently has a bunch of uses. When on the half boards it will open up your body, it will help you walk the blue line to avoid offsides, it can force backwards skating, and I think when you have the puck it causes you to keep gliding in the current direction so you can use the l-stick to aim your shot.

The left trigger does help in quite a few scenarios. I've tried to use it a bit more and it's helping on defense quite a bit.

I recently switched to the overhead cam as well and find it much easier to follow the puck and players. I found the Bap cam to be constantly spinning out of position and disorientating. I also found the frame rate to be much worse with the Bap camera.

My home connection was severed. I live in a new project and one of the diggers ruptured the cable lines, so im out indefinately. Put me on injured reserve.

Yah, I've been resisting going back to the old school camera because the game is just too pretty and being that close to the ice adds to the experience...though, it could also explain why I suck. I also hate it when the camera refuses to spin, I get all messed up.

Actually, I just hate not being able to play at all because of other engagements...I might be on tonight though :)

Definitely not tomorrow...Opening night for the Canucks! You can see me on tv...I'll be a few rows behind the visitors bench :)

I actually don't have a problem going by myself. Our games are usually sold out, so sometimes the only way to go is to find a "single seat" ticket. Sure, it's kind of a shame not to share the experience, but it's also a great experience to be among all that crowd. Of course, now with a hockey nut girlfriend, I can no longer get away with single seat tickets.

Will be kind of sad tomorrow because it's the Luc Bourdon memorial game. :(

If someone wants to start up a CoG league, they can feel free. I've only played the "normal" game twice since buying this though. BaP and EASHL dominate my play. Plus I got my Pro Card recently for finishing 20 online games and keeping at least a C+ average. 7 more attribute points to spend! :D

I also haven't played much of the 1 v. 1 game type. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a league if it was still moving forward. BaP and 6 v. 6 will hold my attention for many, many months.

I actually still play a bit of the 1v1 or dynasty game.

I think it gives a "bigger picture" view of where to be and such, from all points of view instead of one. It's not as fun as online BAP, but I think it helps me think of where to be, when.

Also, as far as ESHL goes... Hope no one minds, but I changed to a Power Forward Right Winger as my default guy now. I noticed I was playing forward more often than D (and apparently doing better at it too), so thought it'd be a good idea. =)

I changed my setup as well, to a Sniper Center. I've upped my faceoff stat with my latest stat increase and have been doing well against human centers. I'm still working on my timing with AI centers...it's vicious.

Going to be an awesome game on Saturday!

That was a very intense beginning to the game, for sure. That tribute to Luc Bourdon...eerie...lots of people shouting out Luuuuuuc during it...then frickin' Tom Cochrane comes out and sings "Big League" while they show a video montage. It got pretty emotional.

Then the game started, first period the Canucks penned the Flames in, but then the Flames came on strong, scary strong. Then the second period started and I don't know what happened, the Flames were different, slower. Really weird.

Here's some bad iPhone pics for you. True to form, Phaneuf was surly last night and just aching for a fight, as seen in the last picture. Fight was more or less a draw, but I showed the pic of Phaneuf on the losing end ;)

Oddly enough, we played a couple games last night.

First game was Shunoshi, Kato, and I. Shunoshi was Center, Kato on left, I was on right.

Fun game, and close. We ran out to a 1st period lead, with Kato crashing the net to push the puck 5 hole off of a rebound. They came back in the 2nd to score with a beatiful high glove slot shot, but Shunoshi caught them feeling a bit too good, as less than a minute later, he scored on a right slot backhand over the goalie's left shoulder. In the third, I was screaming down the right wing and fired a snap shot far side for our third goal. The other team closed in with a left slot snap short side for a PING in goal.
Last 5 minutes we held them scoreless and pulled out the W.

Second game was Kato and I. Kato left, I was on right.

Game started with the opposing team putting on a ton of pressure. I believe (I could be wrong) but as the first period went on, we balanced out, and ended the period 0-0. Second period Kato and I got some pressure on the other team. Kato did an AWESOME job on the forecheck, and stole the puck away from behind thier crease line, passed it out to me, and I passed it back to a streaking AI D man who slap shot one timered far side for the first goal. Second period was very back and forth, and a few times the opposing team pinged off the posts, but nothing went in. Third period was pretty frantic. They were really trying to put the heat on, and for a short time we got a little bit into "chase the puck" mode. However, they made a mistake, as we drove to the other end, quick setup, and I was able to get a slapper past the goalie. 2-0 leading into the last few minutes of the game, as Kato gets put in the box for tripping (Shenanigans!). Luckily, there was only 1 minute left in the game, they never pulled thier goalie, and we killed off the penalty for a 2-0 win. YAY!!!

Fun games guys.

Deunnero, I'd love to play some. I'll unfortunately have to check with the woman as last night I didn't pay much attention =P

It's election day here in Canada, and due to work requirements, and my high profile position, I will be on standby. So I won't be able to join you guys tonight.

I will however be online tomorrow, from about 10 PM (earlier if I can) and will be on as long as I have people to play with. :) I look forward to joining the team after my longer than expected "injury".

When you say 10pm, what time zone are we talking about?

Great game last night, Khrymsyn and Kato. Took about 20 minutes to actually connect to a game, but once we got there, everyone stepped up. Points for everybody!! :D

EST ... and yes I have to stay up late to watch my Flames. Only a few slots this year where games will be at a decent hour are when they play the Sens, Habs, and Leafs.

Alright, that's what time we were playing last night. I won't make it on tonight myself. Wild game starts at 6pm CDT and Warhammer owns my night gaming.

I need to start playing with more than just one other person. Since I've been focusing on playing a defensive defenseman we struggle to score in those games and end up on the losing of a very low scoring game more often than not. I think I'll have to try playing some O when there's just two of us but my guy is not built for it at all.

Indeed. Often times I am in a similiar situation, where my gf and 3-year old son are sleeping and must keep the noise level to a minimum. I should be on tonight, after 10 PM EST if anyone is available to join me.

Thanks to Shunoshi for logging in last night and playing a club game, I was so happy!!

We played a solid game, Schwartz tried to rough up the other team, but got dropped to the ice in his only fight. He came back fighting and scored a goal and got a couple of helpers. My lone goal came off of one of his many faceoff wins, d-man passed it to me in front of the net and top corner flick. Was so fast the replay didn't even see it!

Final score, 5-3 for CoG. :D

I wish the EA servers kept game stats, because last night, seemingly everything went well!

I went 2-1 for the night ... just before the club game I was down 4-0 after 1 period! :eek: But eventually tied it up 5-5 with about 30 seconds to go, and won it in OT, on a short-handed goal. The other team was PISSED.

I'm gone most of the weekend, and will try and be on late Sunday/early Monday for more hockey goodness.

Dang, I missed the action last night :(

I got a couple of games in...both losses, but fun games. Second game was funny because I had one of "those guys". He joins and goes "SWITCH TEAMS" because we had the Coyotes. I was like "whatever, I like a challenge". So, I eventually give this guy (with a telling DNF% of 50) the captaincy and he chooses the Avalanche. The opposing team (the almighty Canucks) got a couple of quick goals and lo and behold, my guy drops out. Didn't matter, ended up having more fun and scoring a couple of goals without him :) The guys I was playing against were Canuckleheads, so we had a good time talking about yesterdays real life game.

Well, Shunoshi, Peanut and I got a game in Friday night ... we lost 5-2 but Peanut got a 3-punch knockout, which was AWESOME!

Afterwards, Shunoshi and I played another game, and won 2-1 ... Shunoshi got 3rd star for his stellar play, and I got 1st star due to having the winning goal. Yay!

If anyone is up for a game later tonight, around 11 EST, let me know.

If no takers, I will fire up Fable 2 and continue to kill everyone in sight (I have yet to get out of the initial "Caravan" camp, and I already have horns).

Well I am out for a while.

The many attempts to get in the game apparently scratched my disc, so much so that it has been rendered unusable! :mad:

When we finally got into the game, I got the "dirty disc" error. Started it up again, no dice. Checked the disc and there was a bad scratch on it, and it was all "cloudy". Somehow, something happend and now it's all fucked up.

I'll have to try and figure something out to get a new a new copy. Anyone know if I call support if they will send me a new one? Or do anything?

Hope you guys had a good game last night.

Well , I just got off the phone with xbox support. Turns out the console is still under warranty, so they will exchange it. Plus I get an additional year of warranty when I get it back.

Still doesn't solve the game disc issue. :( I have to contact EA to try and have them settle it. So no gaming for about 3 weeks.

Why do these things happen to me everytime something good launches? Last year I got RRoD'd in October, right in the middle of NHL/Halo 3 release too.

Grats on the eventual win.

So I await console #5 ... maybe she'll be the right one for me.

Seriously, though, that sucks. Happened to me last year as well, right around NHL 08 time. The good news was that when I shipped off the system, it went to Hamilton (or somewhere in Ontario), so it's not too far away from you at least :)

That sucks man. The last time my 360 died, the turn around time was only 5 days from the day I call MS support. I think I was just lucky with shipping dates because that seems a bit atypical.

Mine was only a couple of weeks...of course, I couldn't wait that long and decided to upgrade to an Elite system at the time...

Less than 48 hours for me. Was something like 37 hours from time it left on the truck to when I had it plugged back in.

But the console isn't dead, I guess they just felt bad that 1- thing ate my disc 2- was my 4th console 3- called last week about missing Fable 2 content.

So all in all, im impressed with the customer support, again.

NO its not that kinda error ... it's the other worse kind.

But I am more than willing to try my luck and get rid of the MFG 2005/11 xbox360. Here's to hoping the next one has all the bells and whistles.

During one of the games last night I could hear biosc and krymsyn just fine but then in the second game I could only hear one of them, which was weird.

But, thanks to the computer goal last night, we actually won 1-0 and I finally got the achievement for it. :D

Well, that's odd...considering I was pretty hammered last night...and watching a hockey game...and no where near my 360.

It's nice to think that you hear my voice in your head though...makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...

I do find it weird playing on a team and only hearing one or two other people...really disconcerting when one of the people you can hear, can't hear you...

Blah, this is going to be a hard few weeks for NHL09, first I saw everyone playing Far Cry 2, then Fable 2, then Fallout 3, now my friends list is full of people playing Gears...

Oh well, you know what they say, if you can't beat them join them...off to buy Gears today :)

Must be nice to have all those friends that can afford to buy every new game!

Yeah, Gears 2 is going to dominate gameplay for awhile. The same thing happened last year when CoD4 hit. NHL will see a hiatus (excluding the occasional game) until January. Then come winter, when the new-game-glow has worn off, we'll be back playing hockey again. :D

I finally played my 75th BaP game, so I'm now on my way to Veteran status. I'm also underneath a bunch of other games keeping me away from NHL09, but man - 75 singleplayer games is way more than I've put into past NHL titles from either developer.

In other words, I feel 110% confident this game will rise back to the top once the others have lost their luster.

Yah...should work fine.

That's the one thing I know I like about the NXE. My friend's Rainbow Six disc always has the cannot read error...almost once per play. I'm pretty sure this will help solve those issues.

Also...the silence is golden...NHL09 is the first disc I ripped to the HDD and it's like night and day with the sound level :)

Yay Deunnero, we've been looking for ya for some games.

I was playing with Big Jim Slaid ( i think I spelled that right) the other day and we were down 4-0 nothing and our computer guy "craig" started the scoring. I scored 2 and we only lost by 4-3. Definitely a good game towards the end.

I need the feeling of a win again.

I know I posted this under a separate thread regarding NXE HDD installs, but FYI I've begun running into problems with my NHL09 installation: namely, Be A Pro stat pages take 5-15 seconds to appear each time you change anything on the page - be it team, conference, or even sorting the stat columns.

I have not tried non-Be A Pro modes to see if the problem persists, but this alone will force me to uninstall the NHL09 files and go back to a disc-based runtime. Trying to look at stats is a headache under the HDD install.

Hey Gang,

I know there is a lot of concern about the new patch, but I just learned an interesting tidbit over at the EA forums..

"LTrigger prevents hit when you try to shoot in offensive zone btw. If you had an account at the time of the last patch you would know this."

That's right.. if you're looking to shoot a garbage goal or a one timer, try holding the left trigger (vision mode). Apparently that tells your virtual guy to go for the shot, not a body check.

The penalty call increases were apparently on purpose to try and stop people from A) Checking people without the puck, B) stop spamming poke check, C) Stop spamming stick lift.

Also, goalies have gotten an overhaul and many of the glitch goals are supposedly gone.

I don't know if any of you saw this, but Operation Sports has a few (imo) GREAT write ups on positional playing, which I think can really help improve our game.

This is pretty interesting, but the D and O links are all common sense. His comments of where you can hit without an interference/crosscheck call is complete bullshit. After the most recent patch it doesn't matter where you are. If you hit that right stick and they don't have the puck, you'd best be ready to take a 2 minute break. Also, anyone who is playing OTP but has never seen a positional chart should be slapped. It does seem that a lot of people quickly forget which position they're playing and either chase the puck or crash the net.

I do like the comments on how to go up ice as we tend to be a straight skating team and we get smoked crossing that blue line....a LOT. The "no right stick" goalie rule is good as well. For the most part, goalie controls suck....

I noticed that "up ice" comments right away. We seem to pass pretty decently much of the time, but I almost never see a pass backwards. Pass forwards we do really well. Side to side, absolutely. But backwards, almost never, and it might just be something we need to do to help ourselves.

Anyone annoyed by losing a game 3-0, even though the other team quit, here is the "counter" to that

During the game, when you get a screen that says "you have lost connection to your opponent", do not press "A". View 'recent players' to determine if your opponent is actually gone or if he's still there. The key to beating this glitch is to be the "last man standing", so to speak. In other words - do not quit the game. Your glitching opponant must quit first. Wait it out. Once the glitcher quits, you're free to do so as well.

Furthermore, 100% of all players from the glitching team must quit. On your side of things, everyone can quit except one person. Appearing offline encourages the glitcher to quit out of the game.

(So a tall/heavy guy with stiff flex gets 5 stars in slap shot power which adds 4-6 points to the attribute.)

I'm considering moving back to a sniper. I miss the net waaaaay more now than I was back when I was setup as a sniper. Unfortunately, I'll lose some speed in the process. I'm not fast now, but at least I wasn't always completely behind the play.

I just hope they tone down the penalties. There's a fine line between too many penalties and legal rape, but the latest 09 patch jumped that line into "look at the ref funny and you're off for 2". Especially when we're talking about hitting a guy with the puck or clearing people from the crease.

While I partially agree, I don't really think it's all that bad. I'm not going to profess I'm perfect and never get called for penalties... but I WILL say 90% of the time I get penalized, I know exactly what I did before it was even called. For instance... clearing the crease. Last night I was playing D and I was KILLING guys in the crease. I literally would watch as someone came into the crease, and hit him, not even paying attention to the puck half the time. The "legal" spot in the game appears to be between the 2 circles from the closest hash to the crease itself. If even 1 foot is touching the circle, or not crossed that inner hash, you'll get called for interference (haven't checked to see if them having a foot in the crease itself is legal or not).

Also, I think the only way you can do that is if you are actually playing a D position. If you're a winger you'll get called. The other D maneuvers are all about positioning. If you are directly behind a skater, stick lift and poke check are almost garunteed penalties. If the skater is going past you, anything is almost a garunteed penalty. Never stand directly behind or next to a skater with the puck, but a hair off, towards stick side, and you can poke and sticklift with no call.

The one thing I DO hate about the game though, is it seems once you start taking penalties, you CONSTANTLY take them.

Also, just because I line a guy up from my circles as he's crossing center ice and lay him out at the blue line doesn't mean it's Charging.......well, sometimes. :D

I swear your hits are like "warp speed Mr. Sulu". I think I've seen you lay a guy out as he was crossing the blue line, and you started your check from behind the faceoff dot in the D zone.

Yes yes I know I don't play defense but hey someone has to start the rush.. I can play d when I have to.. like when you are in the penalty box for 1/4th of the game I am kind of required.

Heck, don't even talk about shunoshi and the box... DrLabotomy makes a pretty decent forward, when it's one of the rare times he's on the ice!

I have never played online, only on medium and later on hard difficulty against CPU... so yea I roll vs CPU but obviously that can be of no good against an actual living opponent...

my favourite team is Chicago Blackhawks, so thats the one I play with :)

so as I said, please contact me... just got a job, starting next week, so depending on when I work I should be available for some matches... it depends on my upcoming work schedule and when my dad is home, since he usually goes to bed early, meaning I cant use the computer I have my NHL 09 installed on
