We need an actual sarcasm detector attached to each post. There could be a vote thing for each detector to show if people think it's sarcasm or not.

Though, it could get too much clutter.

I still contest that the English language needs to adopt a sarcasm mark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm_mark), as the written word doesn't always convey it well.Post pad! Post pad!Um, wtf?

I have a better idea. We write an NLP agent to detect sarcasm autonomously and tag each thread based on its findings. Any other NLP/ML people who wanna help? ;)

You guys are lucky you don't live in Sweden sarcasm and irony are completely interchangeable and just mean saying the opposite of what you mean. We could finish all our sarcastic statements with "I'm just being ironic" like here.

Maybe we need a "I see what you did there" button available beside the "report post" button?

Jeffool

Maybe we need a "I see what you did there" button available beside the "report post" button?I think this could open up a slew of revolutionary message board features! Along the bottom of every post have:
"I see what you did there."
"This."
"Win."
"Fail!"
"WTF?!"

And then have "See details about this post," which lists who clicked on which options.

"This is News?"I think maybe that would've fit "back there," but on this site I think we're fine without it.You forgot "QFT!"Effectively the same as "This." but I could go with either.

My guess is the "He's just gonna get shot" thread, which devolved into  ,laff.gif and name calling. Just read the last 2-3 pages of it.

Eventually we're not going to type anything. There's just going to be a form to fill out with all the traditional internet sentiments and we're just going to be checking boxes.

I feel like whatever I type as a response will be inadequate, as it will simultaneously be for and against both the sarcasm mark and the check boxes of common internet responses.

QFT.

it's weird typing out a fake quote for myself and then being told my message is too short, this character limit is a stable full of horseshit

I don't think dumbing down language to the point of reducing context to the pinpoint of punctuation would help anything.

Of course, this could be a really great idea. [i]Pfff[---DAMMIT. My slash and lowercase I button stopped working.

If I could point out as well as the list of other internet-isms that make me hear the sound of flushing toilets (metaphorically speaking) is the diva grandaddy of them all.

'X, anyone?'

Referring to a similar or earlier iteration of 'X' in terms of movies, games, genre fiction, shoes, birds, bowling balls, crusty bread, stuffed animals, toys, giraffes, bicycles, dartboards, fetch quests, character actors, fey looking Flemish guys, cheese wedges, Valentine's Day gift baskets, serated knives, pork sausages, fondue pots, flange hose ends, phyla, class, order, family, genus, species, or kettle of Cracked magazines.

It's over, Johnny! IT'S OVER.
