Seen over at RPGLand, the free to play (Aeria Games makes money off selling in-game items) MMO Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online is now accepting applications for their closed beta (http://megaten.aeriagames.com/signup). Probably won't be able to contend with most of the big MMO's out there. But since it's ostensibly free, and it's MegaTen, I'm curious to give it a shot.

As much as I would so wish for this game to actually not suck the "free to play (Aeria Games makes money off selling in-game items)" part pretty much makes that a nigh impossibility.
Besides which, I wouldn't even try one of these damn F2P Korean style games unless it's well out of beta. Most of them are buggy and awful enough when they're past "release".

I can't really disagree with you. But since I'm a sucker for all things MegaTen, I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm also curious to play the game that gave Atlus Japan its financial trouble in recent years. Unsurprisingly, they sunk a lot of money into it and didn't get the returns they'd hoped for. I believe it led to them canceling a few projects, possibly partly explaining why we're still seeing them put out games on the PS2 (Persona 4, a new Devil Summoner) but have yet to see the rumored PS3 MegaTen game.
