My HDD crapped out on me earlier today. Mission critical files are regularly synced to the cloud, so I lost nothing related to work or writing. However, I have been lax in backing up music & pictures. Music I can partially replace from my portable player, and the rest isn't really that big a deal. Pictures though, that sucks. Some of them are on Facebook or my wife's computer, but a lot of them are not. Bleh.

I've taken the drive in to the local PC shop to see if they can run some data recovery on the disk and get some of those files back. Fingers crossed.

Found a backup from August 2009. That gets me a very large chunk of my music library, and a reasonable chunk of my pictures. Still hoping I'll recover the rest, but if I don't, I'll survive.

I've been running without backups for years. Last week I decided it was time to make my file system redundant, so I ordered two drives. One for files and one exclusively for backups.
