I recently had a flash of inspiration to write a novel. Unlike all my previous ideas, which were just hobby stuff, this work is something I fully intend to finish and share. However, it is still in the concept phase; I need help from experienced writers on this site to move into the writing stage. I know the general outline of the plot, all the characters, etc.; I just need to figure out the specifics of how it should unfold. I also need a good name for the main character (which, by the way, is loosely based on me).

Here's a link (http://apps.facebook.com/files_app/index.php?view=home&uid=6031&m=33GfG15G12G45G6G9GcG5G45G17G1G13G45G15G10GcGfG1G 4G5G4G45G13G15G3G3G5G13G13G6G15GcGcG19G47G) to the Word file, which I uploaded to FB because 1.) it's too big to be uploaded directly here and 2.) I have no idea how to get it here otherwise.

Strange, all the files I click on just go to code... I must not have MS Word installed on this PC.

Google Docs, son!

The only advice I have for writing: sit down and write. Everything you put on the page ends up malleable and changeable anyways.

You've already done what you can to prepare by forming an outline, now just do the work.

Good luck!

This. And beware characters based on yourself, occasionally you need to be able to stick them and twist the knife; you must do it and enjoy it. You may also want to create inside jokes, resist this urge, it is the devil's temptation. Other than that good luck!

Could you at least tell me whether my idea is good or not, what is good about it, what's bad, etc.?

Also, @TheJack, I tried to go to Google Documents, but all I got was an error page.

Well I am not using FB anymore so that makes it tough. Though I can tell you writing is 10% idea and 90% execution. Any idea done well can work it is just how much time you put into it. I could put a list up here of famous books that have the same basic plots, it is all about the nuance you include. After the planning stage you should be working on your shit draft(the draft you generate text, do whatever you want, and show no one ever.). It lets you have freedom, and allows you to work without worrying about whether it is good or not. Save that until your 1st draft.

http://docs.google.com is the main link to Google Docs, if you're getting errors I don't know what's up, unless you don't have a Google account?

I can't check your doc, but for writing suggestions, just write. Get cracking and get those words on the page. You can fix it in editing. Set goals for yourself and get the words down.

Ideas I don't believe should be critiqued but the product of those ideas can be. Follow the advice you have been given so far. Go write. As for a name for your character and/or future characters, I liked the advice in the NaNoWriMo thread which was to use tags [Main character] until you find one to your liking.

Good luck.
