View Full Version : What games would you need to survive the Zombie Apocalypse

Well I am not sure if this belongs in the Lounge or in General Gaming, so if it is in the wrong place please move it. But given that a zombie apocalypse is a certainty in our future, it can never hurt to prepare early. Now I know most of you have your shotguns, machetes, MREs, and even Anti-Zombie fortified shelters ready to go but you may not have considered what you will do with all that free time you will have between hunting the empty streets for supplies and evading hordes of zombies bent on consuming your flesh, or perhaps at least trying to give you not so friendly hugs.

Let’s face it you could go insane pretty quickly without something to entertain you. So given that what games would you need to survive and enjoy what little free time you have during the Zombie Apocalypse, let’s limit the list to perhaps three games and why you think they would stave off possible insanity, cannibalism, or even worse submission to the zombie masses.

Edit: Portable, PC, Console... pick your poison.

Dead Rising, Resident Evil 4, Left 4 Dead, Pacman.

I didn't read the 3 titles stipulation, so I'd drop Pacman. all the others would teach me valuable survial skills.

Assuming that at least 24 other people are in the same situation, I'd say World of Warcraft. It has done a damn good job of keeping me entertained for hours on end in the past.

Other than that, I'd probably take Final Fantasy 6 and Super Metroid. My two favorite games of all time.

E.T.

No fucking zombie is gonna sneak up on me while I'm playing a game.

Far Cry 2
yes, it's new but, I'll be damned if It hasn't been an instant favorite.

IL2: 1946
Do you have any idea how many aircraft are in this game? How many scenarios you could set up for yourself? All the variables you can control? It's essentially infinite and all shit I enjoy in one way or another. The Paragon of Combat Flight sims.

Garry's Mod
Yeah, you can find ways to pre-occupy yourself with garry's mod. I haven't for a long while but...that's only because I have access to other great games.

(I'm tempted to say Super Metroid just because I love it so much...but idk, I'd be pleased with this were this scenario were true.)

X-Com: UFO defense, I could play this game from now till doomsday.

GTA4: High replay value FTW.

Tetris: seriously, could I ever get sick of this game? Nope.

Super Mario 64, NiGHTS and Parodious.

Much like I don't watch soap operas because I live in the real world, in a future Zombilypse I would want to escape the constant beheading, lawn-mowering and general awesomeness that would come from killing ex-friends and colleagues.

Tetris. Geometry Wars.

X-Com TFTD, COD4 (assuming I have a working internet connection and all of my XBL friends are not zombies,) and Fallout 3. If the shit hit the fan tomorrow I would grab Fallout 3 before running off to my makeshift shelter in the basement.

But I wouldn't have much time to play games after the zombiepocalypse, I'll be spending the vast majority of my time trying to get laid to uh.. keep the human race alive.

Half Life

Bash head with crowbar is just about all you need to know. I suppose sporting a goatee and MIT degree wouldn't hurt either.

But that's for learning from the master. Otherwise I'd take Gal Civ 2 + expansions, Morrowind + mods, and... Max Payne.

Crackdown, Fable II, Ocarina of Time.

Anything with co-op. Zombie's are your gaming friend...maybe all they want is a COD4 partner :)

FFXI, Oblivion, Disgaea 3, Lumines 2, and LittleBigPlanet. FFXI and LBP of course are assuming internet access with other people playing.

The coming Zombocalypse would be me living some of my favorite games. It would be a dream come true for me.

Provided that they're the Night of the Living Dead kind of zombies and not Rage zombies.

One is frightening, but manageable. The other ends with all of us being lunch.

As for the game? Count the bullets!

It also shows how big my zombie nerdiness is, because I can't even bring myself to name any video games. Power will be scarce, if even available, and video games make two things: light and noise. When it comes to zombies I wouldn't take any chances. ;)

X-COM, X-COM:TFTD

LBP with a decade worth of user content on holographic storage
Elite
Star Control II
ogre battle series

A heavily modded Oblivion, Digaea, and Picross - though maybe with a little bit more downloadable puzzles. I think I'm nearing the end of Picross. =( Fortunately, the 3D picross is on the way!

Board games: RoboRally, Agricola, Fluxx. Board games are better choices because they don't rely on things outside your control to function. When the power is out and the internet is no longer functional you folks with your electronic videogames are gonna be stuck with nothing!

I'd be playing Left 4 Dead.

That'd be soooo meta!

A Rubix cube. Once I could finally figure that fucking thing out Zombies and their stupid flesh rotted brains would be no match for me.

Disgaea 3 obviously. That would last you 200 hours at least and would actually give me the opportunity to go all out with it.

LBP, although with a zombie apocalypse there wouldn't be any user generated content anymore:P. But creating could be cool.

Fable 2. Creating a lot of different chara's could last me a while.

Disgaea 3, Guild Wars with all expansions, Oblivion plus expansions. Not my favorite games, but ones that would kill a bunch of time.

I'd kill zombies until they killed me or the world was zombie free, so the bunker situation doesn't really work for me. Plus, if I was to hide in a bunker for some reason. . . maybe nuclear apocalypse, I'd be sure to stock it with tons of awesome games when I was stocking the water and food that this shelter requires. Still, I get your point. . . it's a modified dessert island scenario, so here are my 3 games:

If I had internet and there were other zombie survivors who had internet:
Team Fortress 2
WoW
Warhammer Online

No internet, or no other zombie survivors:
Romance of the 3 Kingdoms 7 - I don't know why exactly but I can spend shit-tons of time playing this game. 7 and 8 are my favorites though I like 11 too.
Evil Genius - It's a really fun game and a HUGE timesink.
Tales of Vesparia - There is a ton of content in this game, and if I had no guide, I could spend ages replaying it and seeing new things. . . it's like a modern Chrono Trigger with an even better combat system, though I think it only has 2 or 3 endings (not sure, but I'm not looking that up until I get at least one of the endings on my own).

Hmm. . . Disgaea 3 would be a nice choice too. . . I'd take that instead of Evil Genius. Then I'd have a PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360 in my bunker. . . each with one game. How incredibly stupid of me.

Chrono Trigger, Super Mario Galaxy, Fable 2

Yeah, they're all easy and cartoony, what of it? :p

Games? What about an Eve to your Adam to repopulate the wasteland?
I agree. I'd want to end up like the guy in Vault 69, but if I had to stick with games...

I'd play:
- Quadradius, because Mario Kart-influenced space checkers never gets old.
- Fallout 3, because I've only scratched the surface of the Capitol Wasteland.
- Super Mario Galaxy, because I still need to clear the game as Mario and play all those levels as Luigi!

And, this is for the unwashed masses, no turned-based JRPG has created a better battle system than the one found in Chrono Trigger. Additionally, it's ridiculous to suggest that a real-time game has a better battle system than a turn-based game. :o
Chrono Trigger, Super Mario Galaxy, Fable 2

Super Mario Galaxy isn't easy, as long as you're aiming to earn all the Power Stars. Some of those are really hard to pick up. How many have you gotten? For the record, I have 103 of them.

Dwarf fortress: I'd finally spend the time to learn the game.
Visual Stuidos and XNA: Learn to make my own games.
Warcraft 3, with DotA, provided there are other people to play with.

I'd pick Rome Total War. I love it forever and don't need the sound on, so I can hear those shambling feet as they shuffle up behind me.

Co-op games would also be good. You should never be alone in the zombie apocalypse.

I agree with this statement.
I'm so hard for a zombie outbreak.

I can't decide 3 games just yet.
I'll have to think about it >.>

GOT 'EM:
StarCraft
Disgaea 3
WoW

Hmm... I'd have to go with Chrono Trigger, Munchkin (multiple sets if possible) and a large gun with lots of ammo.

The first one is a great game I could play for ages, the second one is a great card game I could play for ages, the third one would turn into a real life game (with my survival at stake!).

I recommend this one for your third game (http://www.moral-flexibility.net/blog/archives/category/firearms/anti-zombie-rifle-project/).

L4D
Medieval Total War
Dwarf Fortress

I would say those cover the basics of my gaming. Also, the three of them put together would have incredibly replay value. Of course, Left 4 Dead could potentially get boring seeing as I would be living the game every day, or it could bring back horrible flashbacks.

I wouldn't need any games. The Zombie Apocalypse IS my game.

Civ III (that game is my goddamn crack)
Probably one of the Disgaea's
and an FPS of some sort.

I think I would have all my basic gaming needs met there.

The Zombie apocalypse probably wouldn't be too much of a problem for me. I can get the hell out of dodge pretty easy and would hole up somehwere in the farmlands with a bunch of friends. Zombies are easy to deal with when they don't have a bunch of tall, tightly packed buildings to hide in and jump out at you from.
