View Full Version : TinyUrl seems broken for me

For whatever reason, I've noticed today that I cannot access any of the links via tinyurl. I get a message that says:

"Failed to Connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at tinyurl.com.

Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

* Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing."

If I use a tunnel, like GeoTunnel, I can get to the site, so I know that Tinyurl is working for someone. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if this is just a temporary hiccup, or if something funny might be going on.

When I try to ping tinyurl.com, it is returning that it can successfully ping "127.0.0.1" WTF? How did tinyurl.com get mapped to home for me? Anyone have a clue?

Works fine for me. And when pinging it, it pings 195.66.135.131.

OK, solution is this: Spybot Search & Destroy did a "favor" for me by adding "tinyurl.com" and "www.tinyurl.com" to my hosts file as redirects for 127.0.0.1. Once I removed them, it worked fine.
