View Full Version : I Finally Did It
Not it.
I quit WoW. I've done so in the past with mixed results but I kept everything on my characters and kept the game installed on my computer in case I ever wanted to jump back in without really having to wait. So I don't quite call that quitting. That was quitting with a back-up plan.
Today I canceled my account, logged on to all of my toons, stripped them bare, handed out all of my gold, and the died in Undercity. It was a good ride but it's nice to finally not feel like I "have to log on" and I can spend more time with my wife (awesome) and finally get to all those games that have been sitting on my shelf unloved (also awesome).
It's a weird feeling. I call it freedom.
I quit WoW a few months ago. The entire 2008 year I had my account I rarely played. I wont be going back to playing even with the new expansion.

Indeed congrats. A difficult habit to break.
I'm MOSTLY quit. I've probably logged a total of ten to fifteen hours for the entire year so far, though I just resubbed my account to check out the new patch. But I only played a few hours before I was quickly bored and will now cancel again. No desire to try the new expansion.

Quitting is for pussies.
Quitting is for pussies.
I suppose that's true as now I'll have more time to acquire that. So yes. Yes it is.

^^^Oh, that was well said. :)
I've considered trying it for the first time, but I think I don't need the time sink...even though I only game after my kids go to bed, so that wouldn't be so horrible.
We'll see.

T-minus 10 days to lich king. I'm in for six more months at least.

It's genuinely a fun and a great game (I mean heck, you know how many people play it) but for someone as compulsive as I am it's just a bad thing. My wife and I would go out on a Friday night and I'd be sad that I was missing out on potential loot. That's just a bad priority list right there.
If you can time manage yourself unlike me, it's a really cool experience and I'd (oddly) recommend it.

My girlfriend plays WoW with me.
I hate the insinuation that because you play WoW, insert popular MMO here, you can't get laid it's like saying you play so much Xbox you will never see a pair of boobs.

Oh I didn't say that. I was just agreeing that quitting is for pussies :)
I tried so hard to get my wife into WoW but she just didn't dig it. She loves sidescrollers and I can honestly ever get her to play older Mario and Mega Man which actually warms my heart quite a bit. It's awesome that you have her to play with though. Just as long as you don't have to argue over loot!

I'm sorry that your lack of self-control had you treating a game like a vice, but on the other hand I'm glad you finally "kicked your habit".
More loot for the rest of us.

Congrats. I won't play MMORPGs because games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion are bad enough. I would be HOOKED.
Now that the monkey is off your back, enjoy life!

You're not out of the woods yet! I deleted all my characters after the first time I quit WoW, and a year or so later I restarted. BOO ME!
I haven't been playing that much recently, but I'm still pretty excited for the expansion. Exploring new content is my favorite part of WoW, and after I see all the new stuff I plan on quitting again. Too many fun games and not enough free time to play WoW!

I quit just before the burning crusade came out. I did exactly what you did. I stripped my characters bare, gave my extra cash to the closest person to soon hit 40 so they could get their first mount. After that I deleted everything and canceled the account. I haven't looked back since. Enjoy getting the monkey off your back. It's totally worth it.

Fuck WoW. I really enjoyed it up to 60 before BC, but the expac just sapped all the fun out of the game. I quit on the second zone. Came back some time later, but only because I didn't know any better way to get a hold of a friend of mine, and once I accomplished that I quit shortly afterward trying to slog through the third.
I don't have time in my life to waste on shit that isn't any fun. And I don't understand the mindset of people who do, deliberately, whether it's MMO players who keep slogging through a game long after it becomes tedious, Xbox fanboys who force themselves to play shitty games for the achievements, or even just those people like my ex-roommate or the retards who always shriek at vidgame reviewers that just have to finish a game even if it's a complete sperm sandwich.
Life's too short to waste on tedious shit, especially when there's so many other better games that could be utilizing that time.

Not even an Cellphone with games???
Not even an Cellphone with games???
Well, I do have a bowling demo that allows me to play one frame so if I play it ten times (assuming I jack up the last frame), I can get a full game in.

I quit a few months ago after hitting 70 and called it a good decision. WoW can make for fun times, but there's a lot of drudgery and toil in between. I'd say that time is better spent playing a library of other games -- or if you're really energized, going outside.

come to warhammer!(more specifically Red Eye Mountain on the side of Order and join Grudgehammers the most grudgery and hammery guild ever)
seriously though, warhammer completely killed my WoW addiction
and replaced it with WAR, but thats ok cause with warhammer I don't feel the same must raid, must get loot that I did in WoW, I'm perfectly happy logging on for a hour or so and just doing some quick scenarios then logging off and doing something else

this is the internet, you should probably have clarified that to "have you seen boobies in such a way that you could touch them and not be arrested and did not involve chlorform"

So.. You quit one addiction to just start another one? I guess that works..

I think I'm ready to quit MMOs altogether. I just don't have fun with them anymore. I think in a way, WoW has spoiled them for me.
My most recent two MMOs are Age of Conan and WAR, and whenever I play them I just miss WoW's level of polish. But when I play WoW, I don't have any fun with the game itself, so I can't go back to that either.
Also, I missed the levelling rush in WAR because I was waiting for a computer that could run it, so now all the lower level zones are pretty much empty, including the PvP lakes. I can join a scenario queue and still be waiting half an hour later. That doesn't help my enjoyment of the game. I don't want to quest. WoW does quests better. WAR is for PvP...just not until you hit the high levels now.
And are the server caps really low or something? Even on high population servers the place seems dead.
So yeah. I think I'm quitting MMOs altogether. I've played them since the launch of Ultima Online (still the best time I ever had), but I think I'm ready to move on.

I quit WoW. It was mostly due to my characters being a guild that was full of self-serving opportunistic whores. Yea... surprisingly when I discovered this, I didn't quit for awhile. At least it was the push that I needed. Now I feel like I have a lot of more free time, or at least a lot more time to study. I'm working on losing the weight that I gained while playing the game. I'd say my life has turned toward the better.
