I found this to be quite entertaining. (http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/11/03/people.joaquin.phoenix.ap/index.html)

Then I thought of this:

Then I remembered this:

Oh and this:

I give Mr. Phoenix a few years before he comes back to movies after he realizes that when he "learned to play guitar and did his own singing to play country legend Johnny Cash" it wouldn't pay quite as well when it isn't on the big screen.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I love the guy. He's a phenomenal actor and I wish him well. I just find it very amusing that he says he is giving up "movies" when every single actor that's ever done that always comes back. :D

Is it me or does he seem high out of his mind in this interview?

Either loaded up on pills, or drunk out of his mind, or both.

He does realize that it takes *years* to hone musical talent to the point of actually being able to write and perform music, right?

I'm pretty certain he actually sang in Walk The Line. But writing is a skill that really can't be taught well if you don't have the talent for it.

Yeah, when I first heard about this and saw the interview I thought it was just a babbling stream-of-conscious thing given how out of it he was but apparently not. I don't hate nor dig him all that much (enjoyed him in Gladiator and Walk the Line) but I never went out of my way to watch him in something. Here's hoping he succeeds in this as well and enjoys it.

Fuck you. Party All The Time is the fucking song!

Also he might be like Mos Def. I think Mos always wanted to be in acting but did music to pay the bills.

Hey, whoa! I never said Party All The Time wasn't the shizzle mah nizzle. I love that goddamn song.

On the coolness and musical talent factor, Mos Def way outshines Phoenix. There's no doubt there.

I'll take your Mos Def and your Joaquin and raise you Tupac Shakur. The man was going to school for acting way before he was a roadie for the Digital Underground.

But I'll credit J. for being so compelling that I had to learn more about Johnny Cash and have since gone on to realize he's one of my favorite artists of all time. There's just something about the way he could flip off a camera...

Hmmm, I'll disagree there. Tupac was a great rapper but nostalgia and martyrdom has created a bigger legend than he ever could have been. I liked him when he was doing the Humpty Hump, though. :D Love it!

I agree, there's definitely a cult of personality...but if you dig deeper there's a lot to admire. Like I said, he was part of a performing arts magnet school when he was young and played classic parts in classic plays like 'Raisin In The Sun', and always had a passion for the stage and plays. I'm a smidge obsessed. =)

I'm not saying the fella didn't have loads of talent. :) He was just cut short before that talent came to full bloom.

Damn, JP is going down the road to ruin. Reminds me of this tragedy:
