I'm optimistic about this game. I can't imagine how anyone is optimistic enough about it to shell out $150 on a Limited Edition without knowing that it won't flop though.

Been downing all the trailers for it, I like the art direction. Downloaded the animated comics too, story looks interesting enough. I wish the gameplay trailers showed a bit more interaction than just shooting at the same 2-3 monsters.

There's Fable 2, GoW 2, Resident Evil 5, new Prince of Persia, and alot of other good looking thing in the pipes. This game might win somebody's GotY award but it just didn't look all that amazing to me.

You'd rather play Prince of Persia (again) over Dead Space?

I'm going to be honest, the Gameplay trailers I've seen didn't get my hopes up. But....if the story is rocking and it scares me I'm in. But looking at the gameplay videos, fun isn't how I would describe it. I will give it a try ofcourse before I rip it too shreds.

I don't know. Sands of Time was awesome. Also think this new one has legs.
I also forgot Fallout 3.

Cautiously optimistic about this one.. it looks pretty incredible, but I'm going to need either completely universal praise, or a solid demo before pulling the trigger (so to speak).
These collector's editions are plain screwy though.. isn't civilization about to revert to the stone age if John McCain can't whup ass and shore up the 'conomy? Where do people get that kind of money for videogames??

Anyone hear anything about a demo? EA is usually good about releasing them, but they're notoriously short (at least for their sports games). With so many high profile, and possibly great, games coming out in the next few months, demos will be even more important to me as a guide for what to spend my cash on.

I heard Dario Argento's doing a voice in Dead Space. Call me fangirlish, but if I were getting the Italian version, I'd be pretty fucking excited to hear it.

Ah, shit. I forgot about Resident Evil 5! All I could think about were Gears 2, Resistance 2, and LBP.

Does it actually work as a horror game though, or is it more of an action game with monsters like RE4?
I really want this game. The survival horror genre has needed a kick in the pants for some time now and I seriously hope this game delivers that. If it's anything even remotely close to Event Horizon, I'm going to buy myself some Depends so I don't jack up my couch.

Oh, it's definitely a major bum fight simulator, but in both 1 and 2 there have been some really freaky and I think well directed scenes. It's not survival horror at all really.

It plays very much like a horror game should play.
See, I think a horror game should play like the first two Resident Evil games. Less focus on action, and more on horror. I get the feeling that they've ramped up the action in this game, and basically are giving us Halo in space with zombies. Am I incorrect in this assumption? I hope that I'm wrong, but many of the videos I've seen show more action than I'm looking for in my survival horror.
Resident Evil 5 and Left 4 Dead also look to have ramped up the action, killing some of the suspense. While I loved Dead Rising, I also yearn for more games to slow down and really try to frighten me. Condemned 1 did this pretty well, and parts of Condemned 2 did as well. I had high hopes for Dead Space, but some of what I'm hearing leads me to believe that it's very action oriented. Don't these people know that us gamers are getting older, and losing reflexive speed? :p

I don't know how else to say this...
Play Dead Space like an action game and you'll get the snot beat out of you. It's a much more measured game, where atmosphere and sheer terror are as important to the experience as ammo for your weapon.
I just don't know where the perception of action game is coming from...

hope you're right, although i believe i'm going to enjoy it no matter what else 'they' think of it. i'm not looking forward to much else in the foreseeable future (besides Fallout3/GoW2/BrosInArms:HH/CoD and this).
i ordered the ultra rare sauce edition. because a 1000 copy print IS rare, no matter what else.
although i'm going to be playing the pc version and leave the 360 version sealed probably, well, the media at least, will need to enjoy the other stuff in there.

GameTrailers pretty much. Granted, those gameplay videos probably show a higher percentage of action as slowly walking around a creepy environment is a tougher sell in a one minute teaser. I also interpret the lack of a pause menu (not to be confused with the lack of the ability to pause) as a way to "keep the action moving."
As I have no hands-on experience, I'm really only going by videos and the word of others who have actually played the game. I'm fully willing to admit that my perception is wrong, which is why I'm hoping I get a demo before the game has been out two weeks so I have a chance to try it, and get the bonus suits if I decide to buy.
