Or, at least my better half is.

Yes. That's right. Kelegacy...KELEGACY! is going to be a father. I am spawning. The world is definitely coming to an end. It has to be.

It really hasn't sunk in yet, but I'm excited. We're both very happy, but I still feel very...out of it. Like it's happening to someone else.

I just thought I'd share this with all my online forum friends, since I've got to know a good deal of you very well over the years. Her due date isn't until next summer, but...yeah. I am actually going to have a child of my own. A kid. Gosh.

Does that mean I have to grow up now?

Your gaming time will be cut down, and really any spare time. Still, just sitting around and playing with your child is more fun than anything else.

Hah, I was kidding. It was a sick joke, a bad one.

Thankfully, a sense of humor is what kept me close to my parents over the years. My in-laws are incredible too...basically they find my perversity a riot, and feel much like my own family (actually they are, since the future mother of my child is my sister--we are close here in Maine).

So the kid should turn out a lot like me. Small genitals and all.

If your baby has colic, and you're awake all night for weeks straight, that'll cover that for you!

It really is a wrenching adjustment. I have six, and going from none to one was the hardest. The rest are really just no problem. Going from "me and you" to "me, you, and crybaby over there who wants to eat, poop, and scream" is tough, but worth it.

*crybaby would be me in the above example.*

That or you'll get used to driving the car around the block for hours at a time. Babies love the pur the motor. Ohh, epiphany! Play lots of racing games, problem solved.

Congrats Kelagacy. May your baby grow up to be well endowed.

If your baby has colic, and you're awake all night for weeks straight, that'll cover that for you!

It really is a wrenching adjustment. I have six, and going from none to one was the hardest. Agreed. No matter how many people told me it would be a huge adjustment, I was nowhere near prepared for the change in almost every aspect of my life that I underwent when my son was born. Compare that to my daughter's birth, where I went home the day she was born and played videogames with my friends when they kicked me out of the hospital so my wife and daughter could sleep.

Just get in as many all-day/night gaming sessions and try to polish off as many JRPGs as you can before the baby is born as you'll barely be gaming for the first few months after he/she is hatched.

Congrats though! Of all the people on these boards, you were near the bottom of the list of potential parents :)

I'm not married. We'll cross that bridge later (meaning we will eventually do it), but we don't feel that it's necessary, even with a baby on the way. Oh, I'll catch hell from other people eventually, like coworkers, but it's not their life. I don't care. My family and hers don't either. And this wasn't exactly an accident. Something we've both wanted.

So no, this wasn't with some random chick or short term girlfriend. :)

Does that mean I have to grow up now?

As long as you maintain "grownupness" for the important things (you know, responsibility, safety, etc.) you can be as kid as you want. I love being a "stinker" (as my son calls it) and having lots of fun. Stuffy parents are no fun. :D

Just remember: for the first several years your child will want you around and you need to make all the time you can for them. For gamers, that means your child is more important. I know, it sounds cliche, but there will be crunch times where your kid says, "Daddy, come play with me" and you're first response is "Hold on, let me beat this level!". Trust me. It'll happen. Make the time now because, after they hit that "my parents suck" phase you'll kick yourself in the ass for every level you beat instead of playing. ;)

That doesn't mean you can't play games with your kids. Hell no! Games are an awesome time spent with my son but spend that quality time now while the kid wants you.

Oh, and congrats. :D Spawning the first one is a great time.

Hye Kelegacy I became a father ten months ago for the first time and it really is the best thing that ever happened to me. Every day is better than the last and watching your little one grow is incredible, they change so fast.

I know, I know, it sounds like the usual parent dribble but it's so true. Sometimes I feel like a walking cliche when I'm talking about my son.

As for the growing up part, it kind of just happened naturally for me, I still play games but not to the detriment of Harry. I still enjoy everything I used to enjoy, but now they just have a much smaller part in my life, and that's the way I like it. I'm no longer on tenterhooks waiting for the new Takara Transformer to be released or the new Res Evil game to come out because they no longer hold such a large part of my life. I'm blathering now so I'll stop, I think you get what I"m saying.

Congrats, I'm sure you'll love been a parent and love your child.

Oh, she's VERY early. I think the due date is like July 9th or something. Her breasts hurt last week and I said it's probably because she's pregnant. She missed her period, we took a few of those cheap dollar store tests and they came up positive. Went out and bought a more expensive digital one just to make sure and yup...positive. Contacted her doctor for a blood test before we were comfortable enough to believe it.

She's starting her prenatal vitamins tomorrow and will be planning all her OB appointments tomorrow.

We did the same thing. My wife actually had taken about 3 before she told me, then she took another 2 the next day. Then she got a blood test the next week. The midwife, after telling her she took 5 over the counter tests, laughed and said, "And why do you want a blood test?" LOL! You really do think, "No way!" And even tests that are 99% accurate won't convince you.

Hopefully your lady won't be (as) sick like my wife has been. She's going on 10 weeks of nausea and is pretty miserable. But she's 14 weeks along now so we're hoping she'll be coming out of it pretty soon.

Congrats. It is a time of adjustment for sure. My daughter showed me why dvd's were created for movies, as well as what it's like to never sleep again. If it's your first and you are not used to babies in general it's really odd. At least it was for me, now though my daughter is almost 2 and she makes me laugh every day with what she learns.

Right now she loves to take my controllers for the 360 and tell me she's going to play a game with them. Although if she takes a wired controller for the 360 she is kind enough to tell me that it's broken because it has a cord.

Man how kids growing up now won't know what a NES controller was like or any controller in general that had a cord to it.

That is fantastic news, congratulations!

My first is due in a mere 4 weeks. I can't wait. The clock is ticking.....

My advice to you is to get really involved and read up on all the baby facts and stages of development. It's really an incredible process. They don't call it "The Miracle of Life" for nothing.

Hey, I hadn't noticed this thread in my fury of posting madness.

Congrats Kel! You are now rolling out the most epic and important character of your life. Be sure to pay attention to the stats sheet and how you invest skill points, there is no rerolling on this one.

Wait....you grew up in Maine and did not end up in a Stephen King novel? Interesting.....

His description of the geographical location of Salem's Lot is right where my hometown sits, and the only restaurant in town was written about in 'The Dead Zone' (Cole Farms). Once when I was working night shift taking phone orders for the L. L. Bean catalogue I placed an order from his wife, Tabitha.

Congratulations Kele! One more ignorant Maine redneck. Remember, as profitable as child labor is, they shouldn't be raking blueberries until they are at least eight.
Congrats man!

But now onto the real reason for this thread:

Kelegacy is far from being a teenager. Interesting theory though...

First off, congrats!

Secondly... I love your quote. I just started reading Snow Crash for my Posthumanism in Science Fiction class. Freaking amazing.
