It's been a long time coming, but this Wednesday, November 5th, Vigilante 8 Arcade comes to the Xbox Live Arcade for 800 MS Points.
Cool vehicles: Choose from eight gorgeous, highly-varied supercharged 70s vehicles, each rendered using advanced metallic shaders with more than 10,000 polygons.
Custom options: Play as different Vigilante 8 personas, choose the color of your car, and trick out your vehicle with special weapons.
Weapons: Use six standard weapon pick-ups with three advanced attacks each. Try both the "classic" (combo) and "casual" (charge-up) input methods.
Battle arenas: Experience five newly designed, highly interactive arenas, using Bezier patch technology for maximum surface smoothness. Discover collectible power-ups, salvage points, and artifacts, and thrill to the spectacular destructive and pyrotechnic effects.
Single and multiplayer: Play the single player modes against sophisticated bot A.I., including the Quest story mode, or play with friends in local split-screen modes with up to four players, and online multiplayer with up to eight players in a variety of versus and co-op configuration possibilities.
Extras: Leaderboards, achievements, extra downloadable content, and more are available for the game!

I hope this is as much fun as it was almost a decade ago. I recall really enjoying a western desert map. I think. I was in college, so my memory's kinda rusty ;)

I loved this game back in the day.
I will never forget the first time I shot down the ski lift with a vehicle riding it, me and my friends must have laughed for an hour.

Man, I knew things would get better when Obama won on Tuesday, but that's FAST!!! :D
Seriously, my favorite feature of XBLA is that they actually update titles and add value to them. They're not just pumping out ROMS for easy money (I'm looking at you, VC).

Psst, it's only Monday, and McCain is tightening the gap.

You could fit a ginormous opera lady, singing away, through that gap. :D
This game looks good. I think I'll be getting it with the money I'm getting from Washington! ;)
/end political references. I'll shut up now.

I'm so tempted to get this. This is going to be a blast online (no pun intended). Despite lack of time/backlog, the temptation is I can just play a few matches then stop...or so I tell myself...which is why i'm thinking no i can't play this cause i'll never stop playing.

I will not be Wing Commandered again, going to demo it first.

Never played a Vigilante game, no idea what it is...
Is this like a Deathtrack/Twisted Metal type game?

Well there weren't 8 of them, just Vigilante 8. ;) Yes, it's a Twisted Metal clone and was a great game.

I love vehicular racing-destruction games. =) Gonna have to give this one a try.

Loved it back in the day. Crater Maker was by far my favorite weapon. Used it to make a pit that was near impossible to get out of. Not to mention it leveled everything in existence. Pleased to see they took the time with this one. That's a lot of content for 800 points.

All over this. I'd buy it if it was just the old game with no enhancements, but the multi-player mode is a big bonus.
I may pass. I am about to let my Gold account expire. I have not decided if I will pick up a 13 month Gold subscription card right away or not. If I'm not going to be playing multiplayer I have no real desire to play it. Besides, I still have the orginal in all of it's pixel glory.

I'm tempted to get this, but I'm also hesitant. These kinds of games tend to die out quickly on Live, and then I'm left with a game that no one plays. :p

I agree with you, but unless there are too many technical problems or glitches, I think this one will be an exception. :)

I hope you're right! There are a lot of great XBLA games that no one is playing. Seems to be a problem with console gaming in general. Everyone crowds in to one or two titles and all else is ignored. I've already stopped seeing orbs floating around in Fable 2.

I am seriously bummed that I can't ever find Bomberman games anymore. :(
That's one thing I love about PC games...no matter what the game is or how old it might be, there are probably still a group of people who are playing it somewhere.

A Friend and I went to play some Red Alert online a little while back. There was one guy just sitting in the lobby waiting. One guy. Red Alert...
It was fun! :D

Didn't Interstate76 / Vigilante 8 predate Twisted Metal by a few years making TM the clone :)
Edit:: seems like I'm way off, screw this geriatric memory of mine!

I'm going to download it if you will. Besides, Ms. Claus just said she would play if you were on...so at least you have two other players at all times

All trials should be like Age of Booty. Full game, limited play time. Great way to sell an arcade game.

There's a better way to say what I was trying to say. Be like Age of Booty, XBLA trials.

I bought it. I only played one match in the campaign mode but it is exactly what you'd want out of it. Nice looking, fast paced, good controls. It's budget priced Vigilante 8 in HD with online play. In other words, it's great.

One thing that did stick out to me is that the HUD is very bright with the targeted reticles and points towards where the powerups are. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. It certainly makes it easier to see where things are on the map and it gives the game a more "arcade-ish" feel. But it also sort of takes away from the world by making it look more artificial and tacky.
Nevertheless, that is a minor nitpick. If you want to drop landmines on a pursuer or bombard an oncoming bus with a load of missles, this is the game for you. It's essentially Twisted Metal with car physics that are a bit more realistic and require a little more finesse. But the emphasis on "little": don't worry non-racing game fans, this game doesn't require much more than occasionally letting off the gas. A racing sim it ain't. It's more "Dukes of Hazzard" with explosions.
Haven't had a chance to take it online yet, though. We'll see how that works tonight.
