A little custom printing job finally arrived at my front door this morning . . .

And a little peek inside:

It's a little project I worked out years ago. The text, of course, is the old Jason Mical Fallout PnP game that has thankfully been revived in Wiki form. (http://falloutpnp.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page) The cover was a simple custom illustration by me, done with OOo Draw and some GIMPing.

Little bit annoyed at the quality of the Lulu print job though, the image quality is horrid, and the back cover has some nasty nicks and scuffs, but overall, a neat little artifact, a truly one of a kind piece.

The image quality...you're talking interior right? And is that Black and White?

I did a color book through them once and the images came out crisp and clean.

I think the interior stuff is actually the original document's fault. I looked back over the PDF and realized most of it was terrible there too.

I'm not sure about the cover though. It just looks rather grainy, like it was printed by a cheap inkjet. Some of it could've been the filters used on the image originally, but I don't have the original to compare anymore.

Still, it's pretty sweet. I'm thinking about coming up with a much nicer cover image and getting a hardbound copy in the future. That'd be sweet.

Dude, if you do end up making a better hard cover copy, send us a link so we can buy one for ourselves :p

I remember that game, I read the rules to it years ago...

However, much of that time is lost.

Interplay, Fallout 2 being so broken on release to be unplayable, Herve Caan, Brotherhood of Steel, Fallout: Tactics (I finished it on Ironman), NMA, the Unwashed Villagers.

Yeah. Good times. Still visit NMA, actually..

Wasn't there some official licensed RPG that turned out so terrible that it lost the license, but changed the name and published anyway?

Yes.

Mical and some other folks managed to get the actual license from Interplay briefly, to put out a Fallout D20, however when the Fallout rights were sold to Bethesda, Bethesda apparently decided they didn't want the thing released, so they C&D'd the publisher.

Rather than dump over a year's worth of work, they photoshopped the cover, changed the name, and rewrote the setting, and released anyway. I'm not sure how the game came out, but it does appear to still be supported.

The game you're talking about actually looks pretty good, I was lucky enough to stumble across a pdf. It's called Exodus. Bethesda bought the Fallout franchise and told GCC Games to cease and desist using the Fallout name that they were previously licensed to do, as J Arcane said. They were about to release Fallout 3 and didn't want a pen and paper game to affect sales. It's very very Fallout (they just filed off the serial numbers so they wouldn't get sued) but you don't need miniatures to play it, like the other fallout pen and paper game that was fan made.

I'm trying to decide what the next pen and paper game I buy will be and it's definitely one of the top of the list.
