Right now the only way to get an image of your own into LBP is to use the PlayStation Eye. Nice if you've got one, but for those of us who don't, we're stuck for now with no way to get our own images into the game. Thankfully, that will be changing before too long according to PS3Attitude (http://www.ps3attitude.com/new/2008/11/littlebigplanet-to-import-images-by-christmas/):
Talking at GameCity in Nottingham today, Alex Evans was asked about the lack of image import in LittleBigPlanet.
The news? He confirmed that this was only pulled from the release of the game because of time constraints, and that the image import tool would be released by Christmas.
Odd that it's taking that long.

And using the PSEye isn't even that fun... or as fun as I thought it would be.

Does it HAVE to be the Playstation Eye? For the Burnout Paradise demo, I was able to take my license picture by plugging in my 360 Vision camera.

Possibly at first, but only if you're one of the first to see it. It's very easy to report content and they've already said that they won't be shy about banning people.

Come on Gorvi, you've been in the LBP server thread. It's taking so long because everyone is working towards keeping the smoking servers up ;).

Odd that it's taking that long.
Anyone who has seen a tag in Counterstrike knows that there are risks.
The team needs to figure out a vetting process. Filters and Restrictions are needed. There would be problems with transmitting this data. Do you want a level to take 10 minutes to load becaus of all the custom art? Like when some asshole thinks it is clever to put the Quake 3 announcer into his server? Do they want all of that clogging up their servers when those servers can barely handle the existing traffic?

The epic masterpiece that is "2 girls 1 cup"...the level.
This will not end well. I'm hoping someone, somewhere will be doing quality control.

I agree. By limiting to the PS Eye, you really don't have to worry about 2 girls 1 cup or goatse or lemon party, etc. etc. etc. because of the effort involved. Allowing the import of images from the PS3 harddrive opens up all sorts of nasty doors.

Image importing might not be on its way after all:
Posting on PlayStation Forums, a Media Molecule representative has discounted recent claims that image importing would be patched into LittleBigPlanet by year's end. "[Image] importing is very much technically viable ... however there are currently no plans to introduce it for a variety of reasons," explained LBP community manager Sam_Protagonist, adding, "we'll update if that changes." Oh well, guess we'll just have to recreate our Sistine Chapel level by hand, then. (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/dev-no-plans-for-lbp-image-importing/)

Boo. I'll have to try to find a dirt cheap PS Eye then.
If the source article featured a direct quote from Evans I'd be inclined to believe that over the forum post. Without one not so much. Then again I don't even have a PS3 so it's a non issue for me really.

Awesome. Now I don't have any more excuses for keeping that useless PS3 Eye around. I purchased it for Eye of Judgement, which was trash. Then I paid for the little Mesmerize and aquarium apps in order to try and justify having the damn thing.
Off to Gamestop you go... damn eye.

Ahhh crap. There goes all my excitement of being able to rid myself of that judgmental eye.
