Not terribly surprising. I preordered this weekend and I hope to have the game on thursday. This will take up most of my time from then on...

This game is going to eat up a lot of my time. I'm just starting to get into Fallout 3 too. Oh well, so much for the social life this fall.

Wow, I was under the impression that Norwegians (well, Scandinavians in general) disliked shooters. Must be pretty good to win them over! :)

Your impression is wrong. Seriously, that's like saying the Japanese don't dig on their Final Fantasies & Dragon Warriors.

I don't normally read a bunch of reviews of the same game, but this was an exception and I skimmed most of the links you posted. Now I remember why I don't usually bother.

There was only one review that I thought was remotely well written or interesting. The rest read like previews with a number attached. The only difference is the length the reviewer decides to blather on for. IGN never ceases to amaze me, as they manage to prattle on far longer than their competitors, yet never say anything of consequence.

I refuse to buy this! I just got Fallout 3, and L4D is right around the corner. Damnit I need to give my credit/debit card to the wife.

Metacritic blurbs were enough to tell me the reviews were written by children. Who are these casual gamers?

Okay, here's a criticism I don't get. I understand that sticking to cover and barely being able to turn at all while doing the rodie run isn't good, and I suppose that those are addressed if not "fixed." But look: not that I expect too many people here to have been in that situation, but when you're wearing that much gear and possibly getting shot at, you see where you want to go, crouch over, and runs your balls off. You don't have a good view of where you're going, nor can you shift your momentum easily, so I've always seen the camera and large turning radius "problems" as completely intentional. I hear they've made the radius smaller, so good for that, but I don't understand reviewers still complaing about it. It's meant to be a tactical decision.

This time you don't get tired when running, and the turn is much tighter.

The big problem they didn't fix is the stupid let's walk real slow and blab about bullshit you don't care about parts. Checkpoints are still spotty, too.

I still say that Gears will be the best selling game this year on any single platform hands down. Little Big Planet is going to have to go to the back burner while I curb stomp my friends face to the ground.

I have no doubt that my entire friends list will be full of people playing this game and nothing else.

Weren't the "walk real slow and blab about bullshit" parts just cover for the level loads? I'm not sure how they could get rid of them or "fix" them outside of changing the 360 hardware.

I'd say something like Wii Fit, Brawl, GH:WT or Mario Kart has a better chance. Gears will most likely have a smaller launch than GTA4.

I expected lower reviews due to the hype machine not matching the reality. This has slightly made me curious about this game.

Yeah, the walking sequences are used to mask loads, and I personally thought they helped the pacing. The problem with Gears 1 was that they put the checkpoint before the dialog, so you ended up hearing the same lines every time you had to reload ("Look at all dat juice")

Epic seemed to be aware of the problem, and Gears 2 should have the checkpoints after the dialog.

Ugh! I hated that part. Checkpoint, listen to dialog, run 6 miles to the pumping station, die, repeat.

I thought I had heard something a while back that all dialog could be skipped this time around. Anyone else hear that or am I crazy?

I used to hate one part where Marcus would be stuck walking real slow while Dom was allowed to run around because the person I was co-oping with would always run ahead, and I'd get left behind a bit.

(So I started standing right in front of the doorway so he wouldn't be able to get through. :D)

Stoked for this. I'm thinking about calling out on Friday and just rocking it all day. I had a few clowns on my friends list playing this last week already. Made me extremely jealous.

I was mostly talking about games for the systems the grown ups play ;)

Looks like Metacritic has been invaded by a bunch of fanboy asswipes:

Marc Doyle, Games Editor: My advice for our faithful users is to focus your attention on the Metascore for this game and not the thousands of user votes, most of which have been submitted before said users have played the game. This is a gaming community, and if people want to stuff the ballot box, there's not much I can do at this point. When we upgrade the registration requirements for participation on the site in the near future, this type of thing won't happen. We'll post the full legitimate user reviews upon the game's release. As always, thanks for using the site.

Sorry, I could have sworn I read an article/saw an interview somewhere about how DICE moved to Sweden to be able to "work in peace" or something like that since shooters were not considered popular in the region.

Since you guys are apparently from the region, I'll take your word that my impression is mistaken. (To be honest, I've never even encountered a Scandinavian on XBox Live or other online shooter to my knowledge)

No love for Wii Play?

Baron, I'll kick your ass in Gears tomorrow. You game?

Strangely, I know two folks who have bought xboxes for Gears 2.

Also, I'm going to two midnight launches in two weeks. I'm a winner.

Ha! I never pay attention to "user scores" anywhere anyway. It's either a fanboy giving a game a way higher score than it deserves, or an anti-fanboy doing the opposite.

It's painful reading the user comments on gametrailers.com. Are the kids writing these comments even old enough to play these games?
