I'm looking to buy some new hardware, and am wondering if I should wait a few weeks.

TIA!

If you don't already, sign up to get NewEgg's newsletter (right under their banner on the home page). They e-mail out some great deals that they don't advertise on their website.

Also, I would say wait unless you get a great deal from one of NewEggs newsletter.

Thanks Ying to my Yang.

Oh man, that felt dirty.

I'm looking for specific things (HDD, memory, etc) - I hope those come down the pike as every day I wait is another day I can't start making my short film. :(

Luckily for you there's a ton of competition for those items. There are great deals for them in almost every newsletter.

For example, the last newsletter had a 650 GB for 75 and a 1 TB for 140 (both SATA). It also had 4 gigs of ram for 40. The best part is all promotional items at NewEgg have free shipping :).

Just a quick warning about their free shipping;

Every thing I have ordered from them in the last two months has shipped DHL then after 3 days of them fucking around with it they pass it off to the USPS which then takes another 5 days (if you're lucky). this is coming from some one who used to receive everything in 3 days so if you live farther away it may take much longer. If you want something from them in under a week, like to be able to track your package or like to receive it in good condition I recommend paying the $4 for their normal 3 day shipping.

I only bring this up because items with free shipping used ship UPS and they changed it at some point in the last 3 months.

I'm trying to recall when the last time was that I ordered from them. They have a Pennsylvania warehouse, and quite often, I'll get items the very next day after ordering. I'll even choose the cheapest delivery option, and I'll still get things in 1 to 2 days, TOPS! I have a feeling it was 3 months ago, though...

I just ordered two items from them last month, and they were shipped for free using UPS. Perhaps it's regional?

My free ship item a month or two ago was for UPS..

As to black friday, 2 years ago I got a 20" widescreen LCD monitor for like $100.. back then that was a pretty crazy price.

Depending on the brand, 100 is still damn sexy for a widescreen LCD.

As for civil. Were it not for the impending Holiday rush of things like Displays, I would say just buy what you want now.

It is very easy to wait yourself to death when it comes to technology. Prices are always dropping, and new hardware is always being announced, and released. My best advice is that you be sure you stick to a budget and resist the Up-Selling most part sites like New Egg will try on you.

Ugh, just got hit with that today. Order something last Friday, free 3 day shipping. Came today in the mail in a HUGE envelope, for a stick of laptop ram.

I think they had some good deals last year leading up to Black Friday, but I can not remember actual deals JUST for BF. On the other hand, Amazon, has some deals, before, on, and after BF. Don't forget Cyber Monday.
