Since saturday I've been plagued by connectivity problems and was wondering if anyone here could help.

At first my dsl modem (a zyxel P660R-T1 V2) stopped resolving a connection with my ISP. The DSL Link indicator lights up and stays stable but the internet link doesn't light up at all. I can't browse or even ping a remote server. I usually connect through routing, but I tried connecting through bridge and I got the dread error 678: remote computer did not respond, and its variants.

I was pretty sure it was my ISP, called them lodged a complaint but they say everything is hunky dory at their end. The lineman will be here later to test the line but according to the modem diagnostic tests and all, it seems to be fine.

Now I would've still blamed them, but I am having a lot of trouble connecting via dialup too (two different ISPs) and get the same error countless times before it sometimes randomly connects (that's how I'm here).

I tried resetting the modem, power cycling it. No dice.

Now I'm out of ideas and can't imagine for the life of me why my PC won't resolve a connection.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

I'm on XP Pro SP3 and was able to connect easily before and have changed no settings since then.

It seems you have authentication problems(if you have PPPoE). These problems are mostly due to to a problem in the authentication server, wherever that is.

as far as dial-up goes, its a crapshoot.

Try running these from the command window: Start>Run>"CMD">Enter> stuff below

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Also try this: netsh winsock reset

That one is usually my last resort and works most of the time.

Hey, thanks a bunch guys. It was a server-side error. Resolved now.
