The dreaded "M" day is back. Monday rears its ugly obligatory appearance once again. To ease the pain of opening your eyes and realizing it's another week to be started, let's talk about better moments, what did you play?

Despite my paper writing free weekend, not as much as I wanted. I'll probably pay for my laziness when I am doing around the clock writing at some point in the month. Then Ms. Claus was ill, taking refuge on the gaming futon. So as she napped, no gaming was to be had with her sprawled across the futon. You know the old saying...don't wake a sleeping bear? Or sleeping spouse...:p.

However, I did manage some game time with these:

Guitar Hero World Tour- It's GH. I don't have any cool drums so I don't know how the rest of the game is. I'm liking the tunes on this version better than GH III. I decided to see what beginner looked like and it looks like mind numbing boredom. As bad as I am in GH, I'm not as bad as needing beginner.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts- Played the demo and it's an awesome game. If you liked the previous BKs, come back and play this one. Rare has updated the franchise nicely with vehicle creation but still keeping the old charm of the former games. If you are a platformer game lover in general...go pre-order. The first one is given free for XBL. I also played the online multiplayer, and that too was a lot of fun. I might actually play more online multiplayer when it comes out since it's easy to pop on play a few matches then leave...or try to anyway...

Mirror's Edge - It was demo trying weekend. Another winning demo. I wasn't interested in this game at all. Hearing about the touchy controls and realistic jumping etc had me thinking i'll pass. I downloaded the demo for Ms. Claus, who didn't really get a chance to play much of it. After watching her play, I took a try. The feel of it reminded me of the old Tomb Raider games. The precise platforming moves. This is a FPS/platformer game. The controls aren't gong to be for everyone. But I didn't find the dying then going back and trying again to be annoying at all. Making a mistake felt like it was just me not quite doing it right, not the game being cheap. Only problem is I have way to many games to play I am not getting to. Another one added to the rental pile.

Dead Space- I know I scare easy. So it's not a big accomplishment to play a game that makes me jump. This game makes me jumpy. It is creepy. Maybe the alien creations stop being scary looking but the sounds and thinking they are near by...is creepy. Still very early in the game but thanks to Spigot I can play in short spurts. Which is needed cause the creep factor gets to me way to quickly.

Collecting dust pile: FO 3, SR 2, LBP and Castlevania: Order of <insert new name of title I can't remember> and Time Hollow.

What did you play?

Fallout 3!

its a great game, quite engrossing, and also just the right blend of RPG and FPS for me. I like it far better than I liked Oblivion. I do agree that the DC city area kinda sucks, but the rest is cool. I like roaming the countryside and doing random things. Its not GOTY for me, but its good. I also think the combat is a bit.... gimped maye? Dunno. I dont like it that for Vats to be of any use, I need to be within point blank range of my enemy. But maybe thats because I'm going for headshots, instead of just trying to hit the torso or whatever. VATS is cool though.

I finished Fable II, then promptly started a new character to delve a little deper into it and just mess around more. Then I decided to start finishing up Dead Space (about halfway through it), but I doubt I'll get there before Gears 2. I want to continue playing Fallout 3, but it's so loud it's at the back of my list till the update comes out.

CoD 4 online, and a bit of C&C 3.

I finished the story levels in LittleBigPlanet, then promptly went back to start collecting stuff I missed and acing some of the earlier levels. That game is just pure, concentrated fun.

I finally, finally finished Wild ARMs XF on Saturday night. The last boss was a satisfying fight, just the right amount pain difficulty without being too bad. It did have the annoying thing that XF had the habit of doing, though, with some fights: having "reinforcements" come in for the enemy when you reach a certain point. Nothing's worse than getting a boss down to under 1k HP (when it started with 6k) and then having other enemey mobs warp in and start healing it. Anyway, the ending was very satisfying, and well worth it. The save file for my New Game + says just over 63 hours, and all of it was great. WAXF is probably the best SRPG I've played since the original FFT.

After XF, I popped in Star Ocean: First Departure, but I literally only got about 10 minutes with the game. I love what I've seen so far, it feels exactly like Star Ocean: The Second Story, a game that's one of my all time favorites. I can't wait to get more time with it this week.

I had a little bit of time with FFXI, but not much. It was the only gaming I had a chance to do yesterday, and even that was only about 40 minutes. Enough time to do one quest I had been meaning to do from start to finish, then flag the next one in that line.

Fable 2 occupied a good portion of my time. I'm really loving that game, it doesn't seem to be getting old for me. Additionally, I tried out the Mirror's Edge demo, and really enjoyed that; this was a game that wasn't even on my radar until I tried the demo. That's about it, for me, I actually spent the largest portion of my time on internet forums.

Finished Fable 2 and I've got to say that it was one of the most impactful games I've played in a long time. The decisions I had to make really weighed on me...and I think showed the power of having a save game system that forces you to live with your choices rather than allowing you to go back and "try again." Also fired up Little Big Planet and downloaded my Kratos. Kratos is a grumpy little sackboy. Very fun, though I've only had time to muck about in the opening levels. Finally, played though another mission in Warcraft 3. I'm almost to the final battle. Very cool game, can't believe I missed it for so long.

Fallout 3. That's it. I do not think it is Oblivion with guns. It is STALKER with dice.

Fallout 3 was my only game of the weekend... I couldn't pull myself away, and it couldn't make me happier.

My entire weekend basically consisted of alternating between Fallout 3 and Dead Space on PC. I also gave the Banjo-Kazooie and Mirror's Edge demos a try on my 360, and have positive things to say about both. Oh, and the new Tomb Raider is pretty good too, looks and handles nice on my PC.

Far Cry 2 and a small bit of Fallout 3. Far Cry 2 is as enjoyable as ever, I am actually enjoying it more now that I have decided to forgo using the roads all together and just walk everywhere. Stupid checkpoints.

I am just not getting Fallout 3 or something, as I find it far more frustrating to play than fun. I keep returning to it though, as I am interested in seeing what happens as a result of my decisions. I really wish I would have gone with Fable II though, maybe I can find someone to trade.

I played the first mission of Stalker (not much I know) and I just dont see how it can compete with Fallout 3 at all. Fallout 3 is everything I would ever want in a post apocalyptic FPS RPG.

I finished up a game of Hinterlands and put some time into The Witcher. Almost done with Chapter 1.

My daughter was home from college and I spent a lot of time helping my wife with her HTML class.

The whole family went out and voted early on Saturday evening! Yay, democratic process!

I played around with making vehicles, rockets, and various bolt-driven devices in LittleBigPlanet.
Making a motor bolt wheel-driven vehicle that can go both forwards and backwards was a little bit of a challenge at first, as you can't attach two controls (one for on/off, one for direction) to any one object, and motor bolts need enough tightness to work (you can't have rear wheels for reverse, front wheels for forward). So I made a vehicle with four big forward-moving wheels. Then I made a platform under the vehicle with four wheels for moving in reverse. The platform was connected by pistons to the bottom of the vehicle. I had one control that moves the pistons. When extended, the wheels on the platform raise the vehicle high enough so the big forward wheels are off the ground. When retracted, the reverse wheels are off the ground. I should have made the reverse wheels on the two ends of the vehicle, rather than in the middle, cause it gets a bit tippy when driving in reverse.

And I did a little Civ4:BTS.
I played as the English. Early on, I attacked the neighboring Sumerians. I got them down to their capital city, but I didn't have catapults yet, and not enough troops to take down the capital, and science funding was down to 20% so I stopped the war. Eventually, they expanded almost entirely around my country (from my eastern border around to the southwest), but they were getting culture-pushed pretty hard from both sides, and they're still in last place.

I primarily played Dead space and about 2 hours of Fallout 3. I think I'm wanting to beat Dead space before I dig too much deeper into fall out 3, hate leaving games hanging.

Lots and lots and lots of Fallout 3. I will probably play through a second time just to see how different it is. I love how I'm a good portion into the game and I haven't even touched the story line short of blowing up Megaton.

Fallout 3, LittleBigPlanet, and Rock Band 2.

I took my PS3 with me to a friend's Halloween party this weekend and everyone was enthralled with the co-op on LBP. Whenever we tried to put in another game they'd watch for about 15 minutes and then want LBP back in the disc drive.

I exclusively "played" NaNoWriMo. It is the crazy game where you try to write a 50k novel during the month of November. Even with all of my normal gaming time devoted to this process, I am still about 600 words off pace, though I've been doing a good job of gaining back on this.

It is fun, but I am already suffering some withdrawal effects.

You know, I played a lot of Fallout over the weekend and I feel like it's Stalker set in a different environment. What you need to realize is that the first mission in Stalker is just the training wheels...start exploring like you do in Fallout, head North into the other zone...that's where the action is. Once you help defend an installation from "enemy" attack, then you'll be drawn right in.

Also got some NHL09 gaming in...too many Halloween things this past weekend :(

Fallout 3 only. The damn game hasn't hiccuped in the fun department once since I started playing. I'm over 20 hours in and not really following the main story line at all. Just doing a bunch of sidemissions. Currently I'm with Vance and the Family. This is my GotY thus far.

Fallout 3. That's it. I do not think it is Oblivion with guns. It is STALKER with dice.

I don't think it's Oblivion with guns either. Oh, some things are definitely reminiscent, especially some graphical things (but that's because it's the same engine). I am playing this game completely different than I would Oblivion. I'm always on my guard in this game. I wish I had a good enough PC to play STALKER, since I love games in this setting. Beats the overcrowded swords and sorcery.

I spent Friday night playing a bunch of user levels in LBP. Saturday saw me playing Penny Arcade Ep. 2 (which is as amusing as the first) and chunking away on Dead Space. Sunday had me playing Dead Space some more until my resolve finally cracked and I couldn't withstand the siren song of Fallout 3. I basically got out of the vault last night and then passed out in the chair.

On the upside, I'm about halfway through Chapter 8 on Dead Space (or is it Chapter 9?) and should be able to finish it up at some point this week.

Fallout 3 is very nice. It's definately not Oblivion with guns. It's more like it's Oblivion with all of the stuff that drove me nuts about Morrowind/Oblivion removed and replaced with pure awesome and quality. Between VATS and the fact that the NPCs actually looks, sound and act differently, I'm already enjoying the hour I've played in FO3 more than the 10-15 hours I spent in Oblivion.
