Well.. I had a cat(those of you who have me on facebook, shes my profile pic) I had to put her down after 11 years. I went browsing kijiji for a new cat. I managed to find a four year old female, fixed, declawed. So I went and met the owner.
I took her in. The owner had developed sever allergies. Anyways, my father owns a small little shit zhu. He's constantly jealous and a huge baby. He nevr bites or anything. he's also extremely over curious, he'll sniff the shit out of everything.
Since I got the cat shes been hiding in the basement. She refuses to move until no one is there. Last night she did trek up to my room and kept me awake for 4 hours before my dog came up and scared her downstairs.
Now she has used the litterbox. She does like the temptations treats. I know it's only been 2 weeks. I just am afraid that she might be to scared to eat..
Do you all have any advice?
Thanks

It's normal for a cat to be nervous in a new home, especially with a dog around. It's doubtful that she'll be too scared to eat, as long as you leave the food near her hiding spot. Just keep an eye on it and see if you can tell if she's been eating or if days go by with the food at the same level.
Does she have a room she can get to that the dog cannot reach? This is a big deal for introducing a cat into a dog home. A waist-high barrier will allow the cat to jump in and out as she pleases while the dog cannot.

Yeah, the only reason I'm here is to see the pictures of the cat.

What? No kittypix? Fail. :(
Also, seconding the "cat-refuge" - that usually helps until they adjust/realize the dog isn't going to terrorize them all the time.

The cat sanctuary is a good idea. I will say though that I have a cat that I've owned for 10 years now and when we move he hides for 2-3 weeks before showing his face and that's a cat that's comfortable with us. As long as he's eating and using the litter box I think it's just a matter of giving it time.

-_- i'd show pictures but shes hiding under the shower at the moment and I can't get her to come out.
She's already fallen into a pattern. She hides in the basement all day. When night time comes she sneaks up to my room and terrorizes me for 3-4 hours. She then retreats back to the basement.

Heres the cat. Anyone notice the clear size difference? My dog is 10 pounds. This cat is easily 35-40 pounds.

Fat cats are so funny. I love that you can just mold them like clay. You try to grab a skinny cat and put them in your lap, and they immediately jump off... Take a fat cat and you just spread it on your lap and they just lie there purring.

I can't say anything about skinny cats since all of ours are "fat". Although they usually search out a lap much more than we put them in our lap. Basically if there is a lap, one of them is vying for the lap.

Christ that's so true. She's the same way. She'll flop on my lap start purring and looking at me asking to be pet.

It sounds like the cat is doing just fine. Let it hide when it wants. In a few months it'll own the household.

Cats usually own any house they go into
