As the weekend approaches thoughts of marathon gaming for most gamers is but a distant memory. This weekend however one of our own takes on those yesteryear memories of marathon gaming for a great cause. Battling the clock, sleep and a stack of games, I bring you National Kato and his 24 hour gaming marathon for Children’s Cancer Research. Words from the man himself National Kato:
Thank you Santa, for letting me hitch a ride on the Weekend Thread sled! Starting at 8:30 a.m. EDT on Saturday I'll be gaming for 24-hours straight and raising money for pediatric cancer research and treatment. Thanks to so many of you, we've already raised half of our goal!
I'll be giving away a ton of fun prizes throughout the 24 hours. Every donation earns you a chance to win a prize - and of course, each donation is fully tax deductible.
You can show your support by donating here (https://www.hospitalshelpingkids.org/ExtraLife/m.aspx?i=18589DC247898B499), joining me online to play some games, cheering along in the official thread (colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=19440) as the event happens, or any combination of the three!
Tune in Saturday to watch a grown man lose mental and motor functions (and possibly a bodily function) as I try to last the full 24! It'll be sad and charming at the same time. It's, you know...for kids! (www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF4uboXhJ7I)!
I hope everyone gets a chance sometime over the weekend to get a chance to cheer National Kato on. If NK has a party line open on his Xbox line, I’ll be there listening for any snoring.
As National Kato games for a better cause than my own, these are my selfish goals I plan on playing:
Fable 2- hoping to unlock the pick some flowers achievement to become a Botanist.
Yakuza 3- As soon as I get a HDMI cable since I seem to have misplaced the one I had.
Etrian Odyssey 3- Brushing up on the strategy that keeps you alive in this game: walk around slowly, then run quickly back to the save point.
Cheering section- keeping NK awake, ordering caffeine products to his home and plenty of pizza for the marathoner.
We know what one game marathoner will be doing. What is everyone else doing. What are YOU playing?

First off, good luck to Kato and he's a good man for what he's doing.
Me, it's pouring out right now and it's going to be pouring most of tomorrow. It sucks because it's stripped a ton of leaves from the trees. Why the hell does it have to rain so much in the fall? I want to see the seasons change slowely, not wake up after a rainstorm and have my trees winter-bare!
Anyway, it will give me an excuse to be inside for a bit, so I plan on playing the following:
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Will beat this over the weekend. Almost done with Chapter X, so that leaves XI and XII. Good game so far, but I might have to say a bit too long. It's good throughout, but it's definitely not a small, short game.
Singularity - I haven't installed this yet, but I plan on playing it after Castlevania. That or I'll pop in
Dragon Age or Risen or Fallout 3 to change things up. I've had my fill of the game-types that CV represents and need to slow it down a bit.
And if it gets nice and dries up on the lawns, I'll mow my leaves. I'm trying not to bag them up this year, so we'll see how it looks after I mow them instead. It's worked fine so far, but after this weekend I might be drowning in them...

Castlevania LOS as well
I actually like the size with this thing. It enhances the already epic scale and almost brings it into action RPG territory for me.

Final Fantasy XIV - I should be getting back on tonight after not playing in a few days, ready to do more crafting. They're supposed to be "fixing" the market wards today, so we'll see how that goes.
Bioshock 2 I should hopefully be beating this tonight, I've really been enjoying it.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 And game #3, I hate how much I've barely touched this. Stupid reading getting in the way of the time I'd normally spend with the PSP........

It's not a spoiler at all, but towards the end of the game I said FU to the guns in the game and just used tonics to buff up my drill and used that instead for the last couple hours. Plus, I had a tonic that ONLY let me use the drill and the hacking tool, but let you boost your plasmids by quite a bit.
With just the drill, I had more fun. I had so many tonics that helped replenish health and EVE as I fought, that the game took on a whole new type of experience. I actually felt like a big daddy finally.

I was thinking of trying that, I just got that a little bit ago. I've already fully upgraded the drill, so that might be fun.

Thank you Santa, for the tip o' the hat. It goes without saying Saturday from 8:30 am to Sunday at 8:30 am I'll be plopped in front of my Xbox. My PS3 is in repair from a lightning strike, so the 360 will be my chariot for this race.
I'll be playing everything and anything. Taking suggestions and dropping into friends' games to join in the fun.
I'll be taking periodic breaks to come back here and update the event thread and give away all those great prizes. Feel free to find me on Live or PM me here if you feel like getting a particular game going.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to sleep all the way through to Saturday morning. ;)

You might want to have a few backups if you're going to play 24 hours....
My slim gets wicked hot, but so far so good. The fans blow out the heat but no problems and I've had it for a few months at least.
Anyway, if you drop dead I'll pick up the torch. Man, what I would love to give to tell my wife I'll be playing videogames for the next 24 hours. She'd be like, "Oh really?" And my son would be like, "You wanna bet?"

I'm actually kind of off this weekend, despite it technically being my weekend to work. I do have to work an overnight on Saturday though, but I'm going to have a bit of time to relax!
Here's what's on my plate for the weekend:
Enslaved (PS3) - Time to get back to work on this game. I had hoped to play it yesterday but had to take care of my sick son instead. Silly kids and their diseases!
Etrian Odyssey 3 (DS) - I'm nowhere near as far as frederec. I'm just gradually mapping out Floor 7 and trying not to die. I'm getting strong enough to take down the FOEs on Floor 6 though, so that's somewhat heartening.
Last Window (DS) - Distractions (see below) have kept me from putting more time into this than I wanted to, but I will give it the ol' college try over the weekend.
Super Scribblenauts (DS) - I might tinker with some of the challenge levels or try to get gold on some of the puzzles, but otherwise I think I'm done with the game for now. In that I finished it after 2 days of marathon gaming. I wish the original game had been what Super Scribblenauts is. I was totally glued to my DS for the past two days, coming up with sillier solutions to puzzles than I ever imagined :) It has been a while since a game just grabbed me and dragged me through it the way SS did.
FF: 4 Heroes Of Light (DS) - I picked this up on Tuesday with SS and haven't even put it in the DS yet. I'm just afraid that I'll get distracted and leave EO3 to languish if I fire it up, but I really want to try it out and see what it's like.
Amnesia (PC) - I'll probably take this for another spin tonight after it gets dark and everyone goes to bed. Eek!
Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions (360) - I've got this from the rental guys and am not sure how much more I'll bother with it. It's not bad, per se, but I'm already bored midway through the first level. I liked the brief bit of time I spent playing the Noir version of Spidey but that's probably because it felt very similar to Arkham Asylum. The Amazing stuff just doesn't live up to its name :) I'll probably fart around with it a bit more at work when I do the overnight shift though and see if I don't fall asleep after 10 minutes this time.
That's probably it, with maybe some Puzzle Quest 2 thrown in for good measure. In all honesty, I'm hoping that the majority of my time will be spent split between Enslaved and Etrian Odyssey 3 and Last Window. I'm going to hold off on getting back to Castlevania for a bit since I hear Enslaved is shorter.
Outside of gaming, I'm taking my parents to the airport for their flight to China tomorrow, then taking my son to another comic workshop at the comic shop (he's turning into quite the little artist) and then probably hitting the haunted train ride at the local electric railway museum in the evening. Then work. Sunday I shall rest!
I'm still downloading WoW. Actually, I stopped the download yesterday and just now restarted it. I meant to do it overnight but sort of forgot. :o I'm not sure how much WoW I will play this weekend anyway. I am hoping to not be hooked and play it as a filler when I am working from home and have a little time to kill. My laptop sits right beside me so I will probably be logged in a lot doing very little.
I do plan to try and get back into Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland. If I can't get into it this weekend I am sending it back to GF and spending that time with Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale . I'm starting to feel like a failure when it comes to Atelier games. I never seem to finish them.
I still have a lot of house and yard work to do before it gets too cold. I'm so frakking lazy. I think I will weedwhack for the last time this year and try to cut the grass so low it will be the last time for that too. What I am saying is I don't want to do anymore yard work this year.
The biggest challenge facing me at this moment is to get through the work day today. I still have my cold and the morning has already started with a bang. I was hoping for an easy carefree Friday but that's not going to happen. ARRGGHHH!!

Wow, you blew through that fast. Or fast for EO game anyway. And you are not sane. Hence the "Mad" in your user title ;)
I'm playing the game of "being sick". I caught the cold ADD had last week. Still playing on though, with Fable 2 this morning. I have nothing but love for this game. The bounty jobs opened up so I might do them. A side quest I did involved some bandits killing someone's wife. I spared the guy so the widower could have his revenge. That turned out to be a bit better than the ghost who asked me for a favor. These are some interesting side quests. Nothing legendary so far but the outcomes, what seems like a "good" call hasn't been. I like that.
Now though, it might be time to medicate and sleep for a few hours. I hate wasting time sleeping when I could be gaming.

Not sure what I'll play this weekend. I'm sort of frustrated because one of our players died in DnD last night. That always sucks, unless you hate them but that's pretty rare.
I need to clean out my garage. I think we'll also be doing a bit of Halloween decorating around the house. I'm guessing I won't have a ton of time for games this weekend.
If I get time, I think I'll play a bit more Dead Space, maybe a little TF2.

I need to clean up the basement too. We have lots of baby stuff down there, crates of clothes he has grown out of, etc. Thing is, I don't know where else to put it. We are holding onto it if we have another child.
I need to clean a space out and put a small stand down there with a Dreamcast, PS2 and my old Xbox. I keep saying that but I never do it. We also need to do a dump run and get rid of an old washer and some other crap down there.

It's not so much that, as it is the fact that this week is fall break/first week of my two week suspension, and New Vegas doesn't come out until next week. It's been hard to focus on much of anything, but I've at least made some progress in one game.

I need a good to try and get back into portable gaming. Hell, I need to get "back into" gaming period. I play games now but my completed titles list is so low I can't really say I am making much effort. I hope that is where WoW will come back into play. It works as an excuse to not finish other games and it's a social game with no true ending. It's a loophole that will allow me to keep my gamercard.

I hope everything is working out for you. My favorite professor got in trouble from time to time, and it always sucked to think there was a class he might not be teaching.
This weekend I have a TON of stuff to play.
My friend just dropped off Dynasty Warriors 6, and it's a great introduction to the series. You'd have to read the manual a ton because there's so many new systems, but it's exactly what it should be. Focuses on the individual story of the characters, plenty of action, all new tactics, a sweet new evade move, and a way to call your horse anywhere in the level.
And now because I'm tired of typing, the rest. Splinter Cell: Conviction, Path of Neo, Final Fantasy XII, Minecraft, maybe some of the GOG stuff I bought on a whim like Arcanum.

I beat Dead Rising 2 with both the S and A endings this week. Loved this game. Probably my fav. sandbox game ever behind Red Dead (and maybe Bully). Love the games humor and the social satire on American culture. And I like that the challenge is not so much from reaction time or the fight itself but your preparations for the fight. With smart preparations and figuring out how and when to use survivors (and what to arm them and yourself with) the boss fights are all cake. You generally know within the first 15 seconds of a fight whether or not your prepared enough. Many of them won't even last that long if you prepared well. Not even the final boss on S, which some complained about, gave me much trouble once I learned his pattern. I was level 46 by that point, though.
Now it is on to Castlevania, which I picked up at Best Buy, with a gift card from my birthday last month. I wish they would price match the buy 2 get 1 from TRU, I would have picked up Enslaved and something else too. It was difficult deciding between Enslaved and Castlevania. Haven't actually taken the wrapper off of Castlevania yet. Hope I made the right choice. Ultimately nostalgia won out in my purchase decision.

Yeah, it is. The worst part is that I have to just think about what I've done until the meeting next Friday, then they get to decide whether or not I get to go back to teach the following Monday. I'm going to give them a written apology with plenty of mea culpas, but I suspect they'll make their decision regardless of what I do.
I hope everything is working out for you. My favorite professor got in trouble from time to time, and it always sucked to think there was a class he might not be teaching.
Thanks. I appreciate the support, as undeserved as it is. The worst part is just not knowing what's going to happen, and having this full range of possible outcomes, from business as usual to horribly catastrophic.
But at least I still technically have a job. I think we need to pool our concern for those sad fuckers like Santa who don't even have that. Nobody needs this sort of crap.

It's a good game. I wouldn't say it feels anything like old CV games at all, however, so I felt no nostalgia. It's basically a mix of many types of games, like God of War for the combat, Prince of Persia for the platforming, and there are many puzzles in the game as well. It's not a straight-forward GoW clone because of that.
It's not my favorite game of the year, but it's still a fun title.
Finishing up tomb raider legend. Probably probably moved onto Kane and lynch 2 for a more action paced game. Best buy has it for 20 till Sunday. Otherwise just continuing on my quest I started last month towards 80k gamerscore. My dead line is oct 31st and am only less than 1500 away. I might go for 100k by the end of the year.

Civ 5. Just started an Aztec game. I appear to be lagging behind my opposition.
My last win was a Science/Spaceship win. I had Asakia/Africa down to one city and had it ringed with Rocket Artillery, Giant Death Robots and Stealth Bombers at the three closest cities. I hammered him down to the red zone and just kept cranking out Spaceship Components. Every now and then he'd get up into the yellow and I would unleash the Stealth Bombers until he was in the red again. He kept offering a Peace treaty but... Screw that! Had about 3 UN votes, but since I had conquered and not Liberated some of the City States there were not enough votes to win no matter how I dumped gold and units at them.
Probably some Icewind Dale on the laptop. Spent about an hour and a half the other evening rolling up a party. Kick ass!

Clive Barkers Undying.I'm interested to hear your take on Shattered Dimensions. I kind of like it and by no means disliked it but I was just a little bored with it when I played it. Of course, I also fired it up at 5:30am after being up all night doing an overnight shift and so my attention span was rather brief, but it just sort of fell into a big chasm of yawn once I got past the introductory phase and started playing as Amazing Spidey. I'd like to stick with it long enough to do more of the Noir Spidey because that stuff was pretty neat and very Arkham Asylumish, which makes me happy. Again, it's one of those games that is good but got into my mitts around the same time that a bunch of really great games landed here and I'm having a hard time mustering up a lot of excitement. It's one of those games that would have been a perfect game to play in June when things are quiet.
All of that aside, I can't really fault the game with any real egregious errors on its part. It's more about where my head is at, gaming-wise.

Ok, I am about to give up on returning to WoW. I don't have the greatest DSL connection so when they ask me to download a file that is close to 8GB I begrungingly will do so. When they ask me to download a patch that is 4.7GB right after that I have to pause and ask if it is worth it. Especially with the shitty downloader. Does anyone know where I can find a torrent for the 3.x to 4.X US WoW patch?

I also resisted getting a giant $93 AT-AT... I love AT-ATs so much but my wife would eviscerate me if she found out I dropped $100 on a toy like that. For myself.
Though I would have my 2 kg bag of swedish berries and wine gums to console myself with while sleeping on the couch cuddled up to my giant AT-AT...

I need to get that, I'm sure my oldest would love it. On a related note, I've decided that he's going to get to watch the 1985 animated Transformers movie this weekend, that should be fun. :)
And Square Enix has made me happy, they've announced that not only are they extending the free trial for FFXIV for another 30 days, they're fixing 99% of the issues I have with the game. So Purps, by the time that PS3 version hits you should be getting something quite nice. :)

I'm interested to hear your take on Shattered Dimensions.
All of that aside, I can't really fault the game with any real egregious errors on its part. It's more about where my head is at, gaming-wise.
I am pretty impressed with the GFX and just the feel. Its not perfect, but it has the one thing I am looking for. Fun. I just enjoy the battle and plunking around. As with games of this type I am sure I will find the one version of spidey I do not like. That is pretty much what happens with games like this.
I could easily get bored with it though. So we will see. For example Assassins Creed 1 and 2 could not have TRIED to be more boring to me. I just can't handle rinse and repeat stuff too much. Though 2 had more things to do, it was horrid looking(in the first levels due to its location in the world) and it instantly turned me off:(
Sadly...and I will be destroyed for this. Batman also just didn't do it for me at all. The 1st hour or 2 was epic, but after that it was well...rinse and repeat. I began to get really really bored especially as the game is so easy with patterns and fighting(though it looked cool). Also...corridor style games just arn't my bag and Batman has a great deal of corridors. It just feels too closed off.
Undying is amazing. If you can't find it on COG I can ship it to you when I am done. I usually beat it in a couple days.

Odd, you spelled Gurney Halleck wrong. ;)
He was ok in that was well. And I love Dune. But Excalibur and its soundtrack basically inspired my entire life's enjoyment of fantasy and roleplaying and DND and all that.

My 11 year old nephew is staying over tomorrow night for the first time, and I thought about renting it and watching it with the family. I also might have to sneak downstairs with a mask on and scare him in the night. Nah, just kidding that would be too mean.
This is the Saw-watching, horror film loving nephew that says his favorite movie is Hostel 2. I told my wife that his upbringing is effed up big time. I would NEVER let my children watch those torture films. That's the worst kind of "horror" movie. Her sister allows lots of stupid crap, and my wife's defense is that she's a single mom. That's malarky.

Yeah. My mom used to make me call her before I watched R-rated movies. There are extremes either way that I don't think have anything to do with single parenthood.

I remember running into issues under some connections where if bittorrent was allowed to upload to your maximum speed, it killed your download speed too. You could get it back if you were able to manually drop your max allowed upload speed to a little below what it could actually handle. The last time I used Blizzard's torrent client (which was years ago), it didn't have any options to adjust it, so the download speed would get killed as soon as the upload speed hit the maximum.
Not sure if this was your issue, but it's possible.

These threads always take off so fast! It's a pain trying to catch up. :p
I've had a great day so far! My class said goodbye to our current instructor today, a woman that we all love very much. She's been so great to us as a teacher and a friend. Due to various political BS with the administration she is leaving the program for now, but hopefully she'll be back eventually. Everyone (except one student) chipped in and bought her a nice little clock with a placard on it. It was really nice, and she was so happy to receive it. We were all choked up.
We got out at noon, and I went with three classmates to the dreaded Mall of America, where Microsoft is opening up their own store right across the hall from one of Apple's two locations in the mall. Interesting... Anyway, we ate lunch and then went around to various jewelry stores looking at watches. I've been getting teased by my classmates for a while as I'm one of the only people in the program who doesn't actually wear a watch, so our mission today was to find something nice for me. I found one that I love, and I bought it! Here's a picture I found online of the exact one I got:
http://flexapic.com/g.ashx?id=5175
It's really nice, and I love the look of it! The Precisionist is Bulova's new very high-tech quartz movement. It vibrates at a rate 8x faster than other quartz movements, and the sweep seconds hand moves 16x per second, so it looks like it is continuously in motion. It's also one of the most precise watches out right now.
It feels so nice on my wrist. Thus a new love is born. :D
I came home to find that my new headphones have arrived from Newegg, hooray!
Furthermore, tonight I'm hanging out with a friend. We're going to play some video games and then head over to the Blue Nile, a bar/restaurant where one of my classmates works as a bartender. They just tapped a keg of Souther Tier's Pumking Ale, and I can't wait to try it! Apparently it tastes like pumpkin pie. Yum!

Not sure what I'll play this weekend. I'm sort of frustrated because one of our players died in DnD last night. That always sucks, unless you hate them but that's pretty rare.
1. It's DnD. Depending on the edition it's designed to kill you if your not already dead from boredom.
2. Death is Cheep
3. Twin with a Cowboy Hat
Another fun game I'm playing this week is Contract Signing! I just found out yesterday that the agent I auditioned for liked what I did, and asked me to sign with them. Feels. Great.

I would disagree, to a certain extent. The saw movies get more cringe-worthy with each installment, and the morality is loose at best. It's more like a detective procedural with horribly violent traps. Hostel, at least the first one (I haven't seen the second), started out horribly violent, but then for the last third or so took a turn in a direction I didn't expect at all, away from the torture and misery. I've seen the occasional "torture porn" movie ripped off of Saw and Hostel, but only Hostel took the tonal shift that none of the other such movies seem to have the guts to try. Though that shift did serve to make give it a "happier" ending.

The night before I was in the mood to finally fire up my PS3 to play some Yakuza 3. Turn on the PS3, TV is telling me no signal. On my last TV the HDMI port was a bit wobbly on holding the cable so I thought that must be it. No, it seems I never attached my PS3 up to the TV. Now I go hunting for the cable...no where to be found. I have no clue what I did with it. Simple logic would have had me LEAVE the cable near the PS3 but nooooo...luckily a store near us Five Below started selling HDMI cables cheap ($5) so grabbed one last night and hope to start playing that again. More Fable 2 of course then I plan on bothering National Kato during his marathon gaming session. He's 2 1/2 hours in so far. So much for doing anything that requires energy today. I'm still fighting the cold and still losing. I'm trying to avoid much direct contact with Hai even though she still has the sniffles herself. I did hold her for a few minutes last night because my daughter finally admitted she needed me to get her to sleep. What can I say, I have the touch.
I finally have the WoW client downloaded and patched. 7.7GB+4.7GB+2.7GB+whatever I didn't notice = One hell of a download. I'm too intimidated to log in right now so I will probably read up a bit on some of the old UI mods I used to use. Check if you have any abandoned downloads that take up hdd space. I remember having a few items on the list that hadn't downloaded correctly and still used some space. I think you have to go into 'system' -> 'memory' and see if there's any items you don't need.

I've already checked there. That is where I am seeing that things don't add up. I don't have the 360 on right now to get exact numbers but even if I was to delete everything that shows up in there I would have way less than 10GB on a listed 20GB drive. Time to put it back on the Gamefly Q.
My Fable tales: Made my way through the "Arena" or better known as the crucible in the game. Trying to do the few sidequests since the game is telling me "do all that you can now" since I might not be back for awhile. That sounds rather...ominous. Also realized how the spell selector works. I have been leveling up my magic skills but not using them apparently. Using them would of made the "arena" a lot more bearable.

I even enjoyed that little toy car mini-game they tossed in there.I loved Unwound Future, but I want to kill the parrot. It started off nicely but some of the later puzzles with it just made me angry. The core game is great though and I liked the sticker book.
Ok this was easy enough.
I like it. It is just plain fun. Each spidey is different, which will most likely leaving you one that your not the happiest with and the other three basically being, fun, more fun and...funnest:)
I am really just enjoying it for what it is. It also looks fantastic at time.I think I will work on this some more while at work tonight. I want to give it a fair shake when I'm not at the tail end of a 20 hour day with no sleep before passing judgement. You're right about the art styles though. Even if I wasn't really crowing from the rooftops about the combat you can't fault the game for looking pretty.
I'm also still scratching my head as to what is taking up all of my 360 HDD space. I know the system files take up a lot but I should still have more than the < 6GB I have showing. It's not adding up.I wish I had 6 GB of space free. I'm down to something like 400 megs and about a gig free on the 4GB memory stick plugged into my unit. I even tried to clear out all sorts of extra stuff but the problem is that I have about 3GB tied up in FO3 downloadables and 4-5 GB of Rock Band songs. Sigh. I need to get a bigger HDD. I was eyeballing used HDDs at a store today but I know that if I do get a replacement drive I'll end up having a RROD and may as well just get a new Slim.
So I spent the day out and about with my son. Dropped my parents off at the airport for the 10 day trip to China. Bought my son some stuff for his halloween costume. Took the boy to the comic shop for a workshop where he ended up getting a private comic drawing lesson since none of the other kids showed up.
I also picked up Nier for more than I really planned but less than I've seen it anywhere else around these parts. The cheapest I've seen it was $39 for the 360 version used. The PS3 version was still selling for $50 new at one shop and $60 at others. I ended up finding it for $39 at the last store I stopped in and grabbed it as I've never seen it used anywhere and that was only about $5 more than my theoretical top-end price. I also grabbed R&C: A Crack In Time for $30, so I still ended up getting two games for the usual cost of one new game, so that will be my rationalization for getting them :)
Oh, and I was busy playing Etrian Odyssey 3 while my son was learning how to draw The Hulk and a meatball sub car. That is not an easy game to explain to people who walk past and want to know what you're playing and what it's like. I did get one of the owners intrigued after he came by and watched me for a bit and I threw out how it is an old-school cartography sim where kittens will destroy your entire party if you're not ready.

So far, I've only seen the parrot (Luke called to it, and it flew off), so I can't speak to that yet. And, yeah, the picture book seemed an interesting exercise, but I didn't really have enough stickers to play with it earlier... I should probably give it another shot, now.

I just opened my new headphones and plugged them into my PC for the first time. So far they are great! They seem to do a great job of blocking about ambient noise (including the roommate's cat). I fired up a song in Media Monkey and the sound quality seems to be good as well.
I'm going to dive into Fallout 3 and see how they fare. :)
Which headphones did you get? Headphones with FO 3....nice.
Well I did get "unstuck" in Yakuza 3. Sheesh. Pre-rendered backgrounds suck. That entrance did not look like an entrance. Anyhoo...at least now I can move forward with the game.
Except for some night time chat with the Kato man, I think i'm done with the consoles for now. I basically hogged the TV all day so it looks like catching up with the DVR recordings we have piling up. However I do have EO 3 to keep me company. And frustrated :D

I just finished playing a game of Sins of a Solar Empire with iHap, BrassGecko, and Rogue_Hunter. It was a lot of fun! I hadn't played the game in many months, so I was a little rusty. Still, it's easily one of my favorite strategy titles.
They pulled me out of Fallout 3 to play, so I didn't spend much time exploring the wasteland. I'm off to a surprise party for a friend after which I will hopefully play some Fallout.

Didn't get to far in EO 3, since I was to busy creating characters, then unequipping them then selling their gear then deleting the useless characters :D I had equipment and healing potions to buy. It's a bit tedious but at least my team will be able to start the game a bit less handicapped. I started to explore the first floor, did about half then ran out to save before I ran into anything.

For your Zodiac, most people swear by the power of etheric charge + meteor. I went through the whole game trying to round him out, and only now that I've done NG+ have I tried the meteor route. So I haven't personally seen the supposed crazy damage it can do. Whichever way you go, etheric charge is very useful. At high rank, etheric charge + one of the spell casting limit skills (like hellfire) can do impressive damage, since they are multi-hit. Just make sure it's the zodiac that casts it, not one of the other people with the limit.

*sigh*. Yes that was me originally complaining about the fire ants. I was ill prepared to fight them off when I originally took them on. I also found out later on they actually drop nectar that was to assist you in the cause if you wanted the challenge to fight them with low levels. There is a side quest that totally goofs on the fire ants and if you do the quest you get something useful. If you wander enough you will find the quest :)
I went back to map more of floor 1 in EO 3. I don't know if it's just my memory/imagination but starting out in this EO is a lot friendlier than EO 2. Maybe I just know how to play now. Just seems "easier". I have also fled the floor three times to go save.

Once you've sunken some time into an EO game you know what to expect the next time around and you aren't the cocky punk that strolled up to the errant mushroom on floor 1 and was brutally massacred. You know now that you'd better have someone with a big shield and another person with an even bigger fireball to help roast that SOB and then you'll be high-tailing it for the exit before anything else can wave its whiskers at you.
Like Demon's Souls, the EO games are perfect for teaching you some humility about how awesome you are as a gamer. They're also immensely satisfying for making your progress actually feel meaningful.
I'm happy that I'm at a point in the game where I'm almost overpowered for the floors I have access too but not so much that I can't be slaughtered if I happen to get ganged up on by a few FOEs if I don't play smart. Thankfully I have a strategy for anything that is harder than a few rounds of whacking dutifully with my clubs involving some buffs/debuffs by my farmer and princess and some hearty pummelling by the front row crew. I also have the XP boost skill mastered on my farmer so it's making leveling go a tinch faster!

Switch to the fixed camera. The dynamic one is a pain in the ass. I also usually zoomed out when roaming and zoomed in when fighting.
As for me, a lot more Castlevania. I actually managed to convince Best Buy to give me the Buy 2 Get 1, so I got both Castlevania and Enslaved with my gift card. I couldn't find a 3rd game I wanted, so I bought another Castlevania to sell.
But it is Castlevania that eating up my time. I'm up to Chapter 4 now and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite games this generation. It is actually really hard not to gush all over it. The graphics are some of the most beautiful in any game I've ever seen. I like the combat system better than DMC or God of War. I love the way the counter attacks result in every enemy becoming a fountain of magic for you to pop open for healing and rage galore.
I'm actually surprised Kelegacy didn't like it more than he seemed to. Perhaps it was playing on easy in order to barrel through it quickly to move on to other stuff. I'm taking my time. I have spent a lot of time replaying through earlier levels to complete challenges and find hidden items. I actually find the levels are even more fun on multiple playthroughs because you learn your way around them and the traversal has a nice rhythm to it.
Awesome game.

Oh, I really liked the game. I think it's one of the best entries in the genre, I just felt my strength flagging by the end of the 8th chapter I think (the vampire levels). It was then that I started wanting it to end faster. I usually don't overly enjoy games in this genre but it did a lot of stuff right. Boss battles were very epic. The story, I thought, wasn't as good as people are making it out to be. I predicted some plot points early on and they turned out that way.
I really enjoyed it all the way through, but 75% of the way it did start to wear on me. It's a damn long game for this genre.
I did bump it down to easy, but I was dying more than I wanted and it was just interrupting the flow of the game. Or, I thought enemies had too much health and it slowed things down when you had to hammer on certain enemies over and over again--too much I thought. I could have switched back to Normal after I got used to it, but Easy seemed to make me the happiest even if it was a tad too breezy (enemies still have to be hammered on however). First game I played on Easy in years.
Anyway, good game. I'd give it an 8/10 probably.

@Spiggles: My future bro in law just told me he's playing some odd little game. He's playing Lux Pain :). I told him he's lucky he found it since I don't know how many copies are floating around. I should tell him about Theresia too while he's here. There was a copy of Lux Pain still at the old quasi-indie shop (probably my old one) but that's closed down now, so it's lost forever. Again, why can a game like Lux Pain get a showing in NA while Last Window is stuck in Europe? WHY!?
I just put Theresia away in my box since I don't know when I'll get back to working on it. Maybe after Etrian Odyssey 3 has run its course.
Man, I don't know what's wrong with me, but I've either pinched a nerve in my back or I've got kidney stones. I should go see the doctor soon...

The interface is pretty complex, but if you give the game some time and use the Wiki, it slowly opens up. It's really worth diving into. I spent many hours playing it. Plus it's free! I highly recommend using a tile pack, however, as I'm not fond of the ASCII graphics.
I spent some more time in the Capitol Wasteland. I discovered Big Town. What a sorry bunch they are! I agreed to help them, but I know I'm not ready to take on Super Mutants, especially since I stumbled upon a couple of them shortly thereafter and died a swift death. This game is pretty tough. I finally made it to Arefu so that I can deliver a letter that I received ages ago. I also stumbled upon a doctor traveling around who had several illicit drugs available. I gave him a bunch of stuff in exchange for the schematics for some nuclear grenades. :D

I'm honestly surprised they are still some of them around. So many of them closed down a few years ago, I haven't seen any in quite some time.

Do you have the expansions? If so, beware of super mutant overloards. They have some very nice drops, but are pretty scary. I think they're only found in DC itself, if I recall correctly. They don't stand out as much as behemoths, so try not to let them surprise you and destroy you utterly.
Actually, I'm curious if you've seen a behemoth yet, and how you liked it.

If you don't care about whether you have the 360 or PS3 version, I'd say go for it. I don't know if there is any appreciable difference between the two. $33 is a fair price. I'm kind of surprised that the 360 version seems to be so plentiful and so much cheaper than the PS3 version.
The only reason I was being so picky is because my 360 is so bloody loud and the HDD is pretty much full and I just don't like using it that much anymore. If it would just do the noble thing and die then I could get a Slim and maybe start loving it again.
And I'd already started the game on the PS3 when I rented it a while back...

I do have the DLC, so thanks for the heads up. I haven't actually turned it on yet, however.
I haven't seen any behemoths yet. Other than the obvious humans, raiders, etc., I've seen some wild dogs, fire-breathing ants, a couple of super mutants, a giant mole rat, some large wasps, and a few different killer robots.

Thanks to jerks like you, I've got both of those games, and played them both a little bit, but not finished. They're just extra little bits of the pile of so many games I need to play one of these days.

I think it might have to do with the developer going bankrupt. Not sure bankrupt game developers with products get translated very often.

I ran into the DC area a bit too soon when I played. I did have fun taking down some of the super mutants. I gained a few levels there as I found a great strategy. I ran a lot and hid behind columns. I'm not a big fan of "duck and shoot" but it worked. And wandering around the DC area, trying to figure out how to get out...whew...I was basically just killing anything so I could find a way out.

Well, Singularity has been surprisingly fun so far. There are some quirks with it, and I seem to take more damage than normal in a FPS, but it's pretty and it has a nice time-traveling narrative. It does borrow some elements from Bioshock, but never feels like a copycat.
For some reason this game just didn't hit the target for me. I gave it 4 hours but...I am not sure. It just...maybe it is indeed the borrowing but after 4 hours I think I just grew a bit tired of it.
Its funny because it reminded me a great deal of Area 51 Black Site, which will forever be one of my top 10 favorite surprises in gaming ever. But I just could get into this one. How many hours you in?

Alpha Protocol. Man. That game surprised me. I beat it so many times. The different things you can do and ways to play just kept drawing me back.
And rare is the game that allows you to be a lumberjack pretending to be a secret agent. I so dig the different looks on the main character.

I'm probably 4 hours in, I don't know. I'm in a segment right now where I'm fighting the armored guys that are impervious to most of the TMD's effects.
I find fighting humans extremely satisfying. Arms, legs, heads...it all blows off. The other enemies aren't as fun, but I really am liking it.

I converted my son's crib into a toddler bed, and tonight will be the first night he stays in it I hope. As I was hooking up the camera/baby monitor in his room, I went into our room to test the video feed. As it was starting up I heard whispering that freaked me out badly. I froze, and heard it again (like someone was truly whispering near the camera) and then I flipped to the right channel and I saw a picture of his bed.
I was a bit unnerved and still am. I tried to duplicate it but I couldn't. Just quiet. I don't think I can see Paranormal Activity 2. The first one didn't scare me, but it resonated for weeks and months and made me start seeing and hearing things. I still get nervous in the middle of the night if I come downstairs sometimes. Stupid, but I swear I've had strange feelings here. An old lady owned the house before the previous owner purchased it, and I wonder if she croaked here. And Holden's room would have been hers, because our room is a newer addition/conversion.
It makes me nervous when I'm jerking off, basically.

I went off to find "The Family" of punks that are bothering Arefu. I found an abandoned grocery store that had some goodies inside. I then went into the nearby Metro station and discovered a ghoul who is making Ultrajet. I talked him into giving me 30 caps for every box of sugar bombs that I bring him, so I'm officially a drug runner. :D
I then descended into the bowls of the train station and encountered my first Mirelurk, or rather a pair of them. I was no match for such armored beasts, so I ran off deeper into the tunnels, tripping two traps in the process. Crippled and with 1HP remaining I stumbled through the darkness, desperately seeking a place to hide. I rounded a corner and came face to face with a little baseball throwing machine. One baseball to the head and I was dead. :o

Ok, ghost stories don't creep me out, I don't believe in any of that nonsense. I think most of it can be explained either by faults in the human brain (such as how Deja vu is just your brain getting a double feed back loop or how people who hear voices ha e neural circuitry issues). What can't be explained by the shoddy qualities of our brain's perception of the world I chalk up to scientific phenomena that is not yet fully understood.
But here is what bothers me about your tale: what are you doing masturbating while in your son's room putting together his crib...

God I love Fallout 3. Which is why I'm hard a work cleaning my backlog because if New Vegas is even half the game I hope it could be I'll be occupied for a year.
Alan Wake - 1500/1500! I loved Alan Wake. Alot. But I think The Signal was a bit better than The Writer imo. Platforming has no business in this game, and jumping across moving platforms in a spinning tornado was the worst part of the entire game, hands down. Still, I liked the way the addressed some of what was going on, but...who the hell is Thomas Zane? I always assumed this was a Dark Half inspired-story, but there might be more (or less) to it than that.
Dead Space - This time of year I always get the survival horror itch, and while a run through RE:Remake will undoubtedly happen over Halloween weekend, I decided to start early and take a crack at the final Achievement I have left in Dead Space, a run through on Impossible. I only just started, but it's a bitch. And I'd better get it done soon.

Someone collects them. So don't necessarily even use them for schematics. Though I guess you may want to once, if you're after the achievement for building one of each weapon. There are some places in the wastes that have a number of them, and there's more than you need for the quest. But there's not enough that you'll ever feel like you're swimming in them.

Haha. No, but I am in the room directly below his.
And Raven can suck my dick. Seriously, tonight I was jumped out of my fucking bones playing Singularity. And not cheap scares, at least not really. I activated a tape recorder to listen to some audio like I have dozens of times already and these crazy images blare across the screen with a sharp sound effect (I'm wearing headphones to boot), one showing an emaciated corpse hanging from a noose. It was reminiscent of that scene in Eternal Darkness with the body in the bathtub. My god.
The second, which was perfect, was when I was swimming underwater. I was coming around a corner in a shaft and this dead body with a gaping rictus was floating there, trapped in the passage with me, but the way the body was positioned made its face appear instantly, almost filling up the entire screen. It was placed there on purpose, but it was a devious scare and I jumped and convulsed at the same time. I hate that feeling, but I also really like it.
Now when I activate tape recorders in the game I turn my head away. I haven't seen it since though, so they'll probably catch me off guard later. If at all. Or maybe it wasn't the tape recorder that set it off, but the room I walked into itself. Dunno. But I'm moving very carefully through the world, at least in the slow parts. Good game, really liking it overall.

You will explore more and will be in endless supply. I used tons and never ran out. I'm basically saying I sucked at the game but despite my anemic play you will eventually not worry about them. Same goes for ammo. Now about being broke, I took a suggestion that Kel (I'm pretty sure it was Kel) did was steal everything you could find. Yes, it will make you more "evil" but you can counter that very easily doing other little things like giving someone fresh water and keep giving someone in Megaton particular items you find. It was a brilliant idea. I had so much money from stealing but finished with my halo intact :)

I think he was still suffering the after-effects of the fever/cold thing that he had been dealing with over the last couple of days.
Thankfully he finally calmed down but we were getting worried...
I, on the other hand, slept like a baby! :D
